September
begins on the heels of a Full Moon eclipse that occurred on August
28, an event that served as a catalyst to activate unconscious
issues that had previously been hidden.
For
the first time in many months, we are no longer under the influence
of major planetary cycles involving the slower-moving outer planets.
This means that there are fewer major issues that require our
full attention and we are likely to feel that our lives are moving
more quickly in a forward direction. This will become more particularly
clear when Pluto, which has been traveling retrograde since March
31 of this year, turns direct on September 7 followed the next
day by Venus turning direct. This summer we have had a high number
of planets in retrograde motion which has kept us looking backwards
with the necessity to keep re-doing and re-vising various aspects
of our life. Once Pluto and Venus change direction early this
month we may notice a definite surge of energy as we begin to
look ahead once again.
Saturn
enters Virgo on September 2 after spending the past two and a
half years in Leo. Leo is the sign of kingship and royalty (as
well as the expression of a healthy ego), and Saturn's travels
through Leo have brought significant challenges to leaders of
all nations. These difficulties were particularly pronounced during
the dance between Saturn and Neptune that took place over the
past year, but with Saturn leaving Leo for more conservative Virgo
we are likely to see a reduction of the flamboyant grab for power
that we saw under the Leo influence. Virgo is a hard worker, and
well-suited to Saturn's demand for discipline and responsibility.
(Read more about Saturn in Virgo here.)
Jupiter
has been approaching the final sextile (harmonious aspect) to
Chiron since early August. Jupiter is the expansive urge which
calls on us to seek adventure and meaning in life, and Chiron
is the healing influence, asking us to dig a little deeper into
the painful areas of our soul and psyche so that our wounds can
be released. This is the end of a longer-term dance between these
two planets since the end of December 2007 that has been an underlying
positive influence to the more difficult cycles we have endured.
We
are also concluding another Jupiter cycle: the square of Jupiter
to Uranus and its urge for radical change. Under this influence
we have been urged to seek a more authentic experience; Jupiter
wants liberation and Uranus desires freedom and autonomy, and
the two acting in conflict creates a tremendous revolutionary
force. Any resistance to change will be broken down as we head
towards the final phase of the cycle in early October.
For
the first few days of September we are likely to experience quite
a bit of saber-rattling as Mars (aggression) approaches a square
to Uranus (rebellion) which culminates on September 3. This is
a reactive time where resistance to authority is in full swing.
With Mars in talkative Gemini now, aggression will be expressed
primarily through words. Lovely Venus makes a harmonious aspect
(sextile) to Mars on the same day which will soften the effect
somewhat and help to alleviate angry reactions.
When
Mercury (communication) enters peace-loving Libra on September
5 diplomacy reigns supreme, facilitating a resolution for any
disputes that arose under the influence of Mars/Uranus. During
the several days before September 8, Mars leaves the reactive
auspices of Uranus to engage in a lovely dance with Neptune. This
is a very creative time as the Martian energy and drive combine
with the spirituality and vision of Neptune. Anything that puts
the artistic motivations and yearning for the divine (Neptune)
into motion (Mars) will be well-received now.
Taking
advantage of the creativity of Mars/Neptune will help to prepare
us for the New Moon on September 11 which is also a partial eclipse
of the Sun. The Sun and Moon are conjunct in Virgo and form a
Grand Cross that includes the now-separating square of Mars and
Uranus as well as Pluto. There is a tremendous amount of tension
in the Grand Cross that can erupt in crisis, perhaps creating
the ending of certain aspects of our life that are indeed finished
so that the new beginnings of the New Moon can take root. This
New Moon is a partial eclipse which will diminish the intensity
somewhat, but the pressure is exacerbated by an opposition between
Venus to Chiron and to Neptune. We cannot rely on the support
of others during this lunation, which is likely to have a strong
effect for about three days on either side. We must become strong
and grounded in ourselves before we can reach out to those we
love in a new way and with new strength.
When
Mercury (thought functions) forms a trine to Chiron (healing)
and a sextile to Jupiter (expansion) on the 13th, all of the events
of the past week under the influence of the eclipse will begin
to make sense. We will find ourselves able to conceptualize a
broader view of our life and one that gives us a greater perspective.
By the 17th when Mercury trines Neptune we will be prepared for
the influx of positive creativity and intuitive vision that helps
us to internalize the changes in a positive way.
Beginning
with the New Moon eclipse on the 11th, Mars approaches an opposition
to Pluto which culminates on the 21st, squaring the Sun on the
19th as well. Mars represents our will and desires, and the opposition
to Pluto denotes some frustration in our ability to manifest that
will and shows that we will feel blocked and repressed. Any Pluto
event requires surrender, and during this time (from the 11th
until the 23rd or so) we may need to pay attention to areas of
life where we are not getting our way. Pluto acts as our protector
and facilitates our soul growth, and if we feel blocked we may
be attempting to travel down the wrong road.
An
opposition of Venus to Neptune on the 21st will create some confusion
during this time that will make it more difficult to pursue the
kind of self-examination required by the Mars/Pluto event. Although
we are experiencing a heightened creativity now, there is also
the possibility for delusion and confusion that could be particularly
concerned with interpersonal relationships.
By
the 24th when Mercury harmonizes with both Pluto and Mars we will
gain assistance in resolving the issues that arose during the
previous week, just in time for the Full Moon in Aries on the
26th. The Aries Full Moon opposes the Libra Sun and strives for
harmony and balance between individuality (Aries) and the need
to compromise, something which will be easier to achieve with
the energy offered by trine of Mercury to Mars. There is still
a bit of lingering tension between Venus and Neptune that may
entice us into a bit of fantasy and expectations that are unrealistic,
but overall this is an energetic lunar event that shines a light
into any dark corners and inspires an awakening to new ways of
interacting with others that leads to a transformation of our
personal relationships and our own self-esteem with the upcoming
trine of Venus to Pluto that moves into place in October.
September
is primarily fueled by the elements of fire and air, but by the
end of the month when Mercury enters Scorpio on the 27th followed
by Mars into Cancer on the 28th we will begin to feel the soothing
influence of the water element gaining ascendancy. Many of us
have been going through major change over the past two years,
and the next few months offers a time of respite and breathing
room as we assimilate all we have learned.
