Galactic Center

Decoding the Galactic Center

The Galactic Center, at 26 degrees Sagittarius, was a big topic a few years ago when Pluto transited  through that point for the first time in 244 years, but it’s not a subject that receives a great deal of astrological discussion otherwise.

Astrologically, the Galactic Center is the heart of the Universe – the soul of wisdom for our solar system and our species of humanity.

Now there is a beautiful photo that maps the Galactic Center, showing where the black hole and surrounding galaxies reside.

If like me this is still ultra-confusing, try this cute map of the Milky Way Transit Authority which imagines the Galactic Center as Grand Central Station.

The Exploding Comet and the Galactic Message

holmesImage from Spaceweather.   The timing of the exploding Comet Holmes at the exact moment of the conjunction of Pluto to the Galactic Center is a fascinating coincidence. Add to this the timing right at the Full Moon and there is a sense of something very significant going on.

Comets have long been thought to be harbingers or omens, and this new comet has defied the understanding of scientists and their efforts to strip the magic from this type of event. If the Universe was trying to get our attention, it makes sense that It would create a vision in the sky that was unlike anything ever seen before.

Pluto conjuncts the Galactic Center approximately every 250 years. In this earlier article I reviewed some of the history of previous cycles that heralded a shift in focus of the human species.

We are clearly on the brink of a shift in human evolution:

  • Threats of mass extinction ignore the fact that extinctions are already occurring at a rapid rate. Species are becoming extinct at a rate 100 times that present in the fossil record, and a third of all amphibians and primate species with nearly a quarter of mammals are threatened.
  • The Middle East, “cradle of civilization,” is now the fulcrum of a major shift in global power from two “superpowers” to a multitude of smaller powers and tribal allegiances.
  • A new race to space pits China against rivals Japan and India for the first moon landing by an Asian country.
  • Syria has possibly joined the ranks of countries possessing nuclear technology, bringing that number to ten or possibly eleven, depending on the degree to which Iran has acquired this technology.
  • Scientists are working hard to create life in a lab, the possibility of which would turn the concept of religion on its head.

Our entire world is changing and most of us are not paying attention. Since Pluto began the current cycle of the Galactic Center conjunction last year many people have felt the call to go deep within themselves and discover how their life can unfold in a deeper and more authentic way. As we are being realigned as a species, we are also finding new directions in our individual lives that will take us into a more defined relationship with the core of our being. The more anchored we become within ourselves, the stronger our foundation becomes and the better we are able to manage times of crisis. This I believe is the personal lesson of the Pluto conjunction to the Galactic Center.

The human lesson is a different story. Pluto requires nothing less than the breakdown of any facet of life that does not serve the evolutionary process, and this is not always an easy thing to manage. Because Pluto meets the Galactic Center in Sagittarius, this breakdown is always followed by Pluto’s entry into Capricorn which takes the crisis of philosophy that occurs in Sagittarius and uses it to change the forms and structures of Capricorn. As individuals we have little effect on the global cycles of change unless we achieve that strong anchor deep within ourselves to what is real and true

A Saturn Trine Pluto Exercise

The trine of Saturn to Pluto is exact today, although its influence has been approaching for the past couple of weeks or so. The two planets only meet once so this is not a long-term event, but Pluto is still conjunct the Galactic Center, meaning Saturn now trines the Galactic Center as well. Saturn stabilizes and restructures Pluto’s urge for transformation in a way that facilitates change and the letting go that Pluto requires is easier under Saturn’s firm hand.

The Magician card in the Tarot is associated with Hermes and Mercury, but it can also represent the Saturn trine Pluto process. Through hard work, discipline and focus (Saturn), the magical process of transformation (Pluto) occurs. Trines require some application on our part to really get the most out of them, otherwise we may not even notice this event. We rarely notice when things are going well! But this is an opportunity to create regeneration in our own lives in any areas where we have become stuck or need to let go. The wheels of change are lubricated now and ready for action!

The Pluto process and the galactic center shift

With Mars conjunct Pluto and the G.C. this week there are a lot of theories about the significance, if any, of the Galactic Center shift. The spirituality boards are fired up and here are some of the things I’ve found:

Mars conjuncts Pluto near the Galactic Center on the 13th. Mars then enters Capricorn on the 16th. The Sun enters Aquarius on the 20th. Jupiter in Sagittarius squares Uranus in Pisces on the 22nd. Venus enters Pisces on the 27th. There’s a sense of deepening heaviness, gravity as time goes on. It’s ironic that the energies are so flowing now in comparison to recent years. You wouldn’t expect this mounting heaviness. But this is the nature, the gravity of the unconscious. If you are not conscious with it, it will drag you down. Your intentions will come manifest. Do you want your intentions to be unconscious based on your karmic crud? Or would you like to be consciously intending your manifestations? Time will tell. Mark Krueger

Remembering that we inform the mysteries as much as they inform us and noting the coming together of these major transformative cycles with the December Solstice near Galactic Center (a 26,000 year timing) with Pluto (a 248 year timing, with the Lunar Standstill (a 19 year timing) with Jupiter (a 12 year timing) this may well be a once in many eons of time kind of Celestial Event. We at least know it can’t have happened since the last turning of the Galactic Wheel 26,000 years ago. Cosmologically this is, simply said, bigger than BIG and the question is how are we choosing to participate? When we use the power to inform with the intent to transform ourselves and the planet without attachment to the results, but rather trusting what is unfolding is within the divine plan, then we are making the most of this unprecedented time. Cayelin Castell

Celestial alignments with the Galactic Center are delivering potent transmissions of energy affecting everything on Earth, and as these super-voltage energies continue to enter your reality and speed things up, you must be much more aware of the thoughts and messages you are sending forth. Remember, your thoughts are broadcast as frequencies of energy that act in a similar fashion to a homing pigeon trained to deliver a message – thoughts literally fly out from your mind to connect with whatever you are thinking about. And during these times of accelerated energy everything quickens and manifests with much greater speed. Understanding the cosmic laws of manifestation is like having the keys to the universe. If you are aware of your thoughts, knowing that what you focus on is what you get, then ideally you are consciously creating the version of life you want. But, if by chance, you believe what is sold in the mainstream media’s business of thought control, then you are following a program and are being used. In times of acceleration, you must think and question everything, and be willing to feel your way through life in order to ascertain the many layers of truth that define your reality. Pleaidians/ Barbara Marciniak

It does seem quite evident that there is an acceleration of energy that is affecting many of us in different ways. For many of us there is an expanded experience of connection to those energies and to a more multidimensional experience of life on earth, and this is necessitating major changes in our day-to-day lives. However, the idea that this Pluto/Galactic Center event will simply propel us into a more celestial existence doesn’t seem to me to reflect the power and purpose of Pluto.

As individuals, our path of growth and evolution takes place every day, not just during Pluto cycles. Every moment we are faced with a choice that brings us closer to our ultimate destiny. The planets assist with this by pulling us through evolutionary cycles: Saturn brings challenges, Jupiter brings expansion, Uranus brings change, Venus brings gifts of love and harmony. Then the Pluto transit will act almost like a final exam. Did we do our homework? Are we on the right road? Anything that no longer serves us in our path towards conscious evolution is swept away and discarded during the Pluto transit.

It does seem clear from my research that historically, conjunctions of Pluto to the G.C. have resulted in major shifts of civilizations. But I suggest that these shifts occur gradually over time and as in our personal lives, the Pluto transit to the G.C. forces us to let go of that which our civilization no longer requires. And as with any Pluto transit, whatever we don’t let go of willingly is ripped from us kicking and screaming. The end result is heightened awareness and an enhanced sense of purpose, but we aren’t always aware of the effects of the transformation until long after the event.

Recent celestial symbology have appeared to focus on a theme of endings. The past few New Moons have been in the last degrees of a sign. This is Pluto we’re talking about after all. Pluto is finishing up its work in Sagittarius (where it’s done quite a job transforming Sagittarius issues of religion, theology and travel). Pluto rules endings and new beginnings, and it does seem that we are on the threshold of tremendous change. This could involve the earth itself: the earth’s magnetic field is weakening and the earth’s magnetic pole is shifting rapidly away from the North Pole towards Siberia. According to scientists we are overdue for a pole shift, a concept popularized by Al Gore in his new film. Pole shifts have occurred an average of every 300,000 years and the last one was 780,000 years ago.

Holding onto past ways of experience are no longer possible, and as with any Pluto events, surrender and trusting the process hold the keys to a successful transition into the New World.

Pluto and the Galactic Center

galactic-centerPluto will conjunct the Galactic Center this year for the first time in 248 years. The Galactic Center is the center around which a spiral galaxy such as our own galaxy, the Milky Way, rotates, in the center of which may be a “Black Hole. Although the conjunction will not be exact until December 28, Pluto is within 1 degree of this conjunction all year. Because of the rarity of this event, it could have great significance and astrologers are widely discussing its possible meaning.

Pluto last approached the Galactic Center in 1758, the year of the discovery of Halley’s comet. The 1750s were an enormous time of change, with the reshaping of the European continent during the Seven Years war, and the expansion of the United States during the French/Indian War. 1758 saw the publication of the first treatise on the Atomic Theory, termed one of the most important theories in the history of science.

There is some evidence that the Mayans studied the alignment of the Galactic Center in their astronomical work. They knew its location and had a glyph for it called “Hunab Ku.”

Hunab Ku was, to the Mayas, the supreme God and ultimate Creator. It represented the gateway to other Galaxies beyond our Sun as well as all of the Consciousness that has ever existed in this Galaxy. Hunab Ku, according to the Mayas, is also the Consciousness which organized all matter, from a “whirling disk”, into stars, planets and solar systems. Hunab Ku is the “Mother Womb” which is constantly giving birth to new stars and it gave birth to our own Sun and Planet Earth. They also believed that the “Creator” directs everything that happens in our Galaxy from its center through the emanation of periodic “Consciousness Energy” bursts. Today, modern astronomers have verified that at the center of our Galaxy is a “whirling disk” with a “Black Hole” at its center that is both swallowing and giving birth to stars.

Pluto rules change and transformation, and the death of that which is no longer needed. Astrologer Eric Francis writes: The delineation for the point that I’ve come up with [for the galactic center] is, “That which we perceive as outside us but which is really within us.” He also quotes Philip Sedgwick, the father of Galactic Astrology:

“The Galactic Center radiates brilliant insight to anyone connected with it. This insight craves implementation. This infrared information reveals how to let go of what is in the way to make a clear path for the next step. As soon as an idea is grasped and brought forward, the path of accessing new information refreshes. At all times, new and newer insights spew forth. This carries the tone of consciousness evolution. The collective aim refocuses and retargets with higher and clearer insights at each minute in timelessness. The more considered, the broader the band of consciousness acceptance, then the more assurance can be taken with the focus of life, personal or collective. All this, by the way, occurs a step at a time. “

This was certainly true in the discovery of atomic theory and the process of war during the 1750s which led to the establishment of power bases in the US and Europe that we see today. At the current time on the planet we are seeing the beginning of the breakdown (Pluto) of those power structures, which will continue as Pluto completes its turn through Sagittarius and in 2008 enters the Capricorn, the sign that represents power structures. Until then, over the next few years as Pluto dances within the Galactic Center, we have the opportunity to clear the path as Sedgwick says, and move into the next phase that life has in store for us.
