Scorpio Full Moon on May 10th brings gifts of transformation

Full Moons bring out the contradictions within us, and that is because in the Full Moon the Sun is opposite the Moon, in two opposite signs with opposing polarities.  This Scorpio Full Moon features an opposition to the Taurus Sun: the intensity and passion of Scorpio needs to find balance against the need for serenity and peacefulness of Taurus.  Both are fixed signs: stubborn and powerful, with a tendency towards rigidity and difficulty letting go.  Scorpio, though, is intensely emotional and dramatic where Taurus is, or at least wants to be, placid but still powerful – very like the bull for which it is named.  This Full Moon reminds us that we can become our best selves when we find balance between these two dynamics:  the power of emotions and the power of stillness.

Pluto, the planet of transformation is the modern ruler of the Scorpio Moon, and Pluto harmonizes in a trine to the Taurus Sun at the Full Moon.  Pluto strips away all artifice to bring us into close contact with the absolute Truth of our very existence.  Under this influence we can emerge fully from the chaos of confusion into the transformation of the true Self.

This Full Moon urges us to find balance between the comfortable (Taurus Sun) and the deep and meaningful (Scorpio Moon) – to venture fearlessly into the Underworld of the psyche (Pluto) and find the gifts of transformation.

Mercury is in fiery Aries right now, and for the next two weeks or so it is traveling with Uranus, planet of radical behavior and change. This is a time of excitement and insight, but not particularly restful. Meditation can help to quiet the mind and promote well-being, but there is a great deal of creativity available to us under this influence which encourages us to think outside the box and find new ways of looking at our world.  This influence peaks at the Full Moon and blows open the doors of perception so that we can see more clearly into the multidimensional Universe.

Two aspects (square to Neptune and trine to Jupiter) involving the traditional ruler of Scorpio, Mars (drive and desire),  will blur our outer vision but also energize and infuse us with confidence, promoting confusion and instability but also enhancing our ability to see more clearly with our inner eye and allow the Divine to infuse us with its creative force. Fortunately a harmonious dance between Mercury (mind) and Saturn (stability) helps to ground us and help us to find inner balance.

To get the maximum benefit from this Full Moon you will want to delve into your subconscious.  What are your truest desires, the ones most compatible with your highest Self, and where are you standing in your own way?  What do you need to release from your life in order to become the person you know you are meant to be?  Where are you creating unnecessary drama, and where can you look to find greater peace?  Every Full Moon offers a window into the soul for greater self-understanding, but this one is more potent than most!

How to succeed during Mercury retrograde, April 9 through May 3 2017

mercury retrogradeSometimes it seems like we are in a permanent Mercury retrograde period, doesn’t it?  Under Mercury retrograde communication snafus are common and often equipment that we rely on fails to work properly.

I like to think of Mercury retrograde periods as being the ebb tide.  Life doesn’t always move in forward motion – like the tide, there are periods where events rush us towards the shore and other times when we look to the past and must take a step backwards in order to find completion or master a certain issue.

Consequently, Mercury retrograde times are good for re-flection and for finding new wisdom in situations from the past; for re-decorating, re-designing, re-thinking. They are usually not great times to start something new, but we can’t always design our lives around the three weeks, four times a year in which Mercury is retrograde.

Mercury is in the fixed and somewhat stubborn sign of Taurus right now where it adapts well to the lack of forward motion.  However, when Mercury retrogrades back into fiery Aries where it will remain between April 20th and May 15th we will be at the mercy of two opposing forces: the urge of Aries to take dynamic and impulsive action combined with the retrograde tendency to take two steps backward for every step forward.  This will be exacerbated by the fact that throughout this period Mercury will unite with reckless Uranus.  Under this influence there tends to be a lot of impulsive behavior and action as well as words thrown about without too much thought.  Travel is likely to be disrupted and a fair amount of chaos can ensue if we fail to pay attention. However, this planetary dynamic also bestows new ways of looking at our world as well as fresh insights.  Life will certainly be more exciting during this time!

We will find all of this easier and more enjoyable if we allow ourselves to let go and enjoy the ride.  Between now and May 15th it will be difficult to keep a tight control over events and situations, but the hidden gifts of surprising new adventures are just around the corner.

Sunday Inspiration: The Kingdom of Memory

The Moon aligns with Neptune in Pisces today – a double dose of mystical energy to open the portals of consciousness and allow us to peer beyond the veil.  A conjunction of Mercury (the mind) to Uranus (awakening) assists us on the mental level so expand our awareness into multidimensional thinking.

These influences allow us to venture into the Kingdom of Memory – the place in our present where our past resides as beautifully stated by John O’Donohoe, the brilliant Irish mystic:

As we journey onwards in life, more and more spaces within us fill with absence. We begin to have more and more friends among the dead. Every person suffers the absence of their past.

It is utterly astonishing how the force and fiber of each day unravel into the vacant air of yesterday. You look behind you and you see nothing of your days here. Our vanished days increase our experience of absence. Yet our past does not deconstruct as if it never was.

Memory is the place where our vanished days secretly gather. Memory rescues experience from total disappearance. The kingdom of memory is full of the ruins of presence. It is astonishing how faithful experience actually is; how it never vanishes completely. Experience leaves deep traces in us. It is surprising that years after something has happened to you the needle of thought can hit some groove in the mind and the music of a long vanished event can rise in your soul as fresh and vital as the evening it happened.

Except from Eternal Echoes.

April 2012 Taurus New Moon

20120420-063809.jpg

Photo stolen from my friend Beth

by Lynn Hayes The Sun enters Taurus on the 19th and seeks comfort and pleasure in the simple and the safe, especially at the Taurus New Moon when the solar conscious principle aligns with the lunar instincts in the sign of Earthly experience and stability.

The New Moon is the initiation of the new lunar cycle, and after a month of working through imbalances in our personal lives and unearthing Plutonian treasures and being exhausted by Martian passion, this Taurus New Moon will provide a resting place within which to find harmony and serenity.

The New Moon is in a harmonious trine to Mars which helps to activate our inner desires and inspire us to take the kind of action that will facilitate our growth. Venus, the lunar ruler, makes no major aspects and is thus enabled to operate free from constriction and restraint. This is a beautiful time of retreat and enjoyment of the simpler things that bring simple pleasure into the human life.

Mercury is within a day of its final conjunction to Uranus, so the mind is stimulated and ready to embrace new ideas and ways of thinking although with the strong Earth influence in the New Moon chart any action will be slow to unfold. Uranus is getting ever closer to the exact square to Pluto, though, so there is a hint and an echo of the revolutionary excitement that is just around the corner.

Mercury is the translator here between Uranus and Pluto, since Mercury conjoins Uranus on the 22nd and then squares Pluto on the 25th. We can make the argument that the Uranus/Pluto conjunction will really begin with this event as Mercury brings the two dramatic forces of liberation (Uranus) and total transformation (Pluto) to the battlefield.

Communication systems go haywire: Mercury conjunct Uranus

by Lynn Hayes

Art by Chris Johanson

Mercury represents communication and the transmission of energy, and Uranus represents radical change, surprise, and innovation.  When these two planets get together, as they do nearly every year because of Mercury’s orbit pattern, things can get a little wonky. When the conjunction of Mercury to Uranus coincides with a Mercury retrograde period as we just saw happen, things can get quite wonky indeed.  Some of you may be familiar with the story of Mike Daisey whose one-man show about the Apple factory in China was adapted for an episode of This American Life in January but then retracted on March 16th, two days before the second phase of the exact Mercury/Uranus conjunction and just after Mercury turned retrograde.  Re-tractions are just one of the thing Mercury Retrograde periods are good for as we turn our attention to the past and re-do anything that was not done right the first time. Uranus is in charge of electricity and electromagnetic energy, and those of us who are more sensitive to this kind of energy may be having trouble sleeping, or feeling jittery.  Mercury and Uranus are both in fiery Aries now (Mercury dipped briefly back into Pisces while in its retrograde phase which is now over) and the intensity of the energy is amped up as a result.  Interpersonal communication may be more bizarre than usual. Eric Francis commented on his Facebook page yesterday: “Has anyone noticed this energy in the air that it’s been difficult to keep a grip on the facts? I’ve had more fact checking issues in the past seven days than I’ve had in the rest of my journalism career combined.”  He went on to say, “.I own three electric guitars, and they all developed similar problems [a few weeks earlier]…it was so weird I started to speculate that a power surge had come through, or that solar flares were to blame.” It may sound like an extended Mercury retrograde period, but this is all very Mercury/Uranus, as is any disruption (Uranus) to communication equipment (Mercury) and tornadoes and electrical storms such as the ones which spawned 100 tornadoes in 24 hours in the midwest last weekend. Uranus can be somewhat reckless, and when combined with the communication aspect of Mercury we all may end up saying things that we wish we hadn’t, or feeling like  discussions are out of our control.  This is a great time for planning and developing new ideas, but not the best time to implement them.  That will be better left until the conjunction has passed next week. The final phase of the Mercury Uranus conjunction culminates on April 22nd, and the personal intensity should settle down a bit after that.  On a broader level we will continue to see the level of unrest continue to build as the square between Uranus and Pluto peaks this summer.
