The Full Moon in Aquarius at 10:36 pm EDT on July 23, 2021 is the first of two Aquarius Full Moons in 2021 – the second one will occur on August 23rd. Today’s Full Moon is at 1 degree Aquarius – the instigation and inception of the new sign, with the Sun having just left Cancer for Leo. There is a sense of new possibilities and something just beginning to blossom. The second Aquarius Full Moon will be at 29 degrees, the critical degree of a last ditch effort to master the brilliant innovation and new ideas of the Aquarian energies.
Full Moons are times of heightened emotionality, but Aquarius is the sign that is the least comfortable in the realm of feeling. Aquarius is the inventor, the scientist – there can be a disdain for what is perceived as the drama of emotions which makes Aquarius Full Moons particularly interesting. When the Moon is in Aquarius we seek to elevate our personal feelings and gain greater understanding and perspective – to see the Universe as a whole rather than merely as a sum of its parts. Before the Full Moon, the Moon will complete its passage through Saturn-ruled Capricorn to take care of the scaffolding which are required before we can break away from these structures into a new way of being.
The Aquarius Moon opposes the Leo Sun in a polarity dance between the solar expression of Self and the more transpersonal and universalist Aquarius influence. Aquarius is ruled by both Saturn and Uranus – In Aquarius we erupt out of the realm of form (Saturn) into something more magical and transformational (Uranus) in order to bear witness to a constantly expanding universe. All Full Moons require balance and integration, and at the Aquarius Full Moon we can be torn between our small Self and our higher Self – a push and pull that leads ultimately to a harmonious synthesis that encourages the highest expression of our soul in the earthly plane.
The airy emphasis of Gemini and Aquarius provided a great deal of ideas and perspective without much fire to motivate and inspire. With the Sun and Mars both in Leo for a few days (Mars will move into Virgo on July 29th) we can generate enough heat and passion to force our dreams and yearnings into reality. The detachment and innovation of this Aquarius Full Moon will help to support an awakening of new possibilities, making this a wonderful time to reimagine your life in new and brilliant ways. ❤️
