The astrological Solstice occurs when the Sun enters Capricorn (for my Southern Hemisphere friends this is actually the Summer Solstice). Solstices and Equinoxes are important energetic gateways having to do with the balance of light and darkness. At the Winter Solstice, the days are at their shortest and as humans we are pulled inwards into deep soul reflection.
The astrology of the Solstice Full Moon
This year, a Full Moon at zero degrees Cancer marks the entry of the Sun into Capricorn. The Full Moon is the height of the lunar cycle – the lunar energy of instinct and emotional truth is maximized, and the power fueled by the realm of feelings is at its height. At the same time, the cycle of darkness and light is at its nadir. The combination of these two effects opens a portal of energy which we can use to effect powerful change in our own life. And I believe, in the world around us.
When the Moon is full in Cancer, it opposes the Capricorn Sun, also at zero degrees. The Cancer/Capricorn polarity asks that we balance the realm of emotion and the inner life of the soul (Cancer) with the world of the trappings of the material world: success, structure, rules and order. But at the Full Moon the lunar influence is at its most powerful, drawing us more deeply into the inner world of feelings.
The Cancerian Full Moon is packed full of feeling and emotion, and the power of that emotion has the potential to transform your life for good and for ill. When we harness our emotions to our Will, we create magic. A little bit of intention can go a long way towards creating a lasting and positive transformation and that is particularly true at this Solstice Full Moon. Transformative Pluto (and the Black Moon Lilith) conjunct the South Node of past experiences, suggesting a breakthrough of something which has held us back, perhaps a dark memory that unfolds now into something of rare beauty. A conjunction of Mars to Chiron energizes our desire and need to move through any darkness towards the transformation of the light.
If you are someone who likes to begin anew at the New Year, this Solstice Full Moon will give you a head start!

Thank you Lynn.
As a Cap ( dec, 25 ) with a Cancer moon I think I better pay attention to this message.
Hi Sonny, if you’re born December 25th your Sun is probably right around 3 Capricorn so it will be directly impacted by this lunation. I think paying attention is a very wise thing to do!! ?
I’m born December 25, 1967 with rising ascendant Sagittarius, and moo in Libra. Am I supposed to read Sagittarius or Capricorn. I e been told that zip am a Sagicorn but do not ever see a column just for cusps.
Conni-Joi, you are actually not on a cusp – your Sun is definitely in Capricorn. There is a school of thought that we should read our “horoscope” for the rising sign rather than the Sun sign, without arguing whether or not zodiac sign horoscopes are helpful, it does make more sense to read it for your rising sign. But I do not believe that these generalized horoscopes are helpful for anyone, no matter which sign you read it for. These general blurbs don’t take into account more complex planetary cycles that affect every piece of the complexity of the chart, and for that there is no substitute for an annual checkup with your favorite astrologer.
