There’s a lot to talk about this week! Grab a cuppa something and let’s dive in.
Mercury retrograde. Mercury turns retrograde on September 27th, the day I am writing this, at which point we have SIX retrograde planets, plus Chiron. This is not as extreme as last year when every planet (seven) including Venus and Mars was retrograde for many weeks – Pluto, Saturn and Jupiter will all turn direct in October and the undertow of retrograde energies will be on the wane. But don’t be surprised if this month you find yourself feeling like it’s Groundhog Day all over again and be prepared to be in a near constant review of your life as you prepare for this new future. Retrograde season has a purpose: it helps us to stay in the flow of life – like the ocean, there is an ebb as well as a flow and sometimes it is in the ebb where we find the most magic.
When Mercury is retrograde communication becomes more critical. Mercury is closest to the Sun and currently it is locked in a square to Pluto, making communication not only more critical as it stations retrograde and is at a standstill, but in that standstill it is challenged by Pluto’s intense commitment to creative destruction and transformation. The Truth will come out, and it’s not always pretty or comfortable. But whenever Pluto is involved, that discomfort and unease virtually always evolves into powerful realizations and growth.
And now…the week ahead. Days and times are given in EDT, please adjust for your own time zone.
Monday, September 27. As Mercury turns retrograde the Moon is in Mercury-ruled Gemini. There is a lot to say, a lot to think, and a lot to process. Mercury’s role is to process our experiences through the mind and help us to digest them into something meaningful that will inform our sense of who we are, and this is a time for self-reflection as well as general chattiness.
The Moon interacts with Neptune around 4:10 pm EDT and there could be some confusion within a few hours of that time. The Gemini Moon likes to move quickly and this Neptune square can cause everything to blur and slow down for a time. This is great for creativity, but less ideal for focused attention or important decisions. A harmonious trine from the Moon to Jupiter at around 7:30 pm EDT will return our confidence and bestow greater optimism and purpose.
Tuesday, September 28. The Moon enters Cancer at around 9:30 am EDT and squares the Sun at around 10 pm, marking the closing phase of the lunar cycle and taking us towards the New Moon in Libra next week. This could bring some tension, especially with the Cancer Moon which is more sensitive and reactive with the Libra Sun casting a general sheen of diplomacy and desire for interpersonal harmony.
Meanwhile the energies are building for two harmonious planetary aspects which culminate on Wednesday: Venus in Scorpio trine Neptune helps to infuse all of our relationships with Neptune’s idealism and hope along with the passion of the Scorpio Venus, and the Libra Sun trines Saturn in Aquarius to clear the air of any disunity and look for practical ways to achieve greater harmony.
Wednesday, September 29. These two aspects described above culminate today: Venus trine Neptune at 12:13 pm, and the Sun trine Saturn at 6:19 pm (EDT). Meanwhile the Cancer Moon causes some trouble in the morning, squaring Mars around 4:15 am and squaring Chiron in Mars-ruled Aries at 7:20 am (EDT). Expect some irritation and frustration to arise – this would be a good time to expend some physical energy to burn off any excess negative energy so that the positive vibes of the Venus/Neptune and Sun/Saturn aspects can do their work.
Thursday, September 30. Thursday begins with some harmonious lunar influences as the Moon trines Neptune around 4 am and Venus around 5:45 am (EDT), but a few hours later (around 10 am) the sensitive Cancer Moon conflicts with the Mercury/Pluto square I discuss in the first section of this post. For much of the day you may feel out of sorts and this would probably not be the best day to bring up something challenging with a partner or business associate (although to be truthful, I often find that despite knowing about these things I do just the thing I advise against!!).
Venus in Scorpio squares Jupiter on Thursday, which is not the best aspect for harmony. Venus in Scorpio doesn’t really care about being nice, and that square to Jupiter just exacerbates the tendency for truth over happiness. However, you may feel more social as Jupiter encourages growth and that could help us to break out of any Scorpionic moods.
We also have energies building all day for two stressful aspects which culminate on Friday: Mars in Libra, trying to be polite, opposes Chiron in Aries around 9 am EDT on Friday. There’s no way to sugarcoat it, Thursday is a difficult day for personal interactions; however, it’s useful to remember that in conflict there is always opportunity for personal transformation.
The Moon enters Leo just before 9 pm on Thursday EDT. Normally this would provide a kind of lift, but Leo can be somewhat self-absorbed and stubborn and that doesn’t really facilitate greater harmony in the midst of these energies. But it DOES help us to know more clearly what we need in a given situation and that can provide the way through.
Friday, October 1. The Mars/Chiron aspect culminates around 9 am EDT on Friday, and the Mercury square to Pluto culminates around 10:30 am on Friday. That is the peak of the stress points, and from there we have harmonious lunar aspects (mostly) throughout the day that will help the integration process. (Leo Moon opposite Saturn 10:09 am, sextile Sun 1:34 pm, trine Chiron 5:17 pm, sextile Mars 5:46 pm, square Uranus 11:31 pm, all EDT)
We also have a harmonious sextile building all day from Scorpio Venus to Pluto which will facilitate personal empowerment and improvements in relationships of all kinds.
Saturday, October 2. On Saturday we have more harmonious aspects to smooth out any remaining rough edges. The Venus/Pluto aspect culminates just before 4 am EDT, and after that the Leo Moon is very active re-building confidence and a strong and healthy ego. (Moon opposite Jupiter 3:28 pm, sextile Mercury 4:57 pm, square Venus 7:42 pm, all EDT.)
Sunday, October 3. The Moon enters Virgo at 4:37 am EDT and I am really looking forward to that. This will help us to ground into practical details for rebuilding any areas of life that were stressed by the planetary influences of the week. The Libra Sun opposes Chiron which can bring out the old wounds for healing, but we also have a lovely trine from Mercury to Jupiter that encourages positivity and helps us to see the meaning behind the situation.
Whew! Take care and I hope you have a very good week. ❤️

Your ability to focus on and make sense of so many quickly moving astrological details amazes and overwhelms me. It’s not just the “big movements” that you focus upon. Very impressive. I have trouble keeping the biggies in my field of vision!
I realized, this week, that I’m probably operating under the strong influence of one of the major transits you’ve been talking about–that Saturn-Uranus thing. I’ve been obsessed with cutting down on all the junk I own. Things that I haven’t used in years and probably won’t? Donated or thrown out. Thirty years of old tax returns? Shredded. “Eh” photographs from back in the day before digital? Sorted through and pared down radically.
I figure it’s a combined energy of disrupting what is “settled” in my life, in order to create a new level of “settled” for the future. Saturn-Uranus.
It certainly has been a week, with ups and downs. I feel like I’ve been through a wringer ( for younger people: that’s an old-fashioned way of squeezing water from laundry). Somewhat flattened and limp.
