Astrological insights for the week of April 13, 2020
Here’s what you need to know about planetary activities, and also, of course, more thoughts on the current Covid-19 situation and how things are likely to unfold over the coming weeks.

I was listening to the news (go figure) and heard an interesting description of how “influenza” became the name for a viral disease. The one that was given (and I did some more internet research with not a lot of success to verify this elsewhere) was that the ancients believed it was Saturn and Jupiter were not helping but in opposition or squared, and that “influenced” the world we live in, that they are the “influencers” for disease, and in going back through recorded history, apparently, there is this astrological configuration was in play during the big pandemics and epidemics. Had you heard about this bit of lore?

HI Kate, I had not heard about that, but Google reports: “mid 18th century: from Italian, literally ‘influence’, from medieval Latin influentia (see influence). The Italian word also has the sense ‘an outbreak of an epidemic’, hence ‘epidemic’. It was applied specifically to an influenza epidemic which began in Italy in 1743, later adopted in English as the name of the disease.”
I’ve done some preliminary research and I am unable to find a consistent correlation between pandemics and certain astrological factors. There are astrological factors tied to each one, but not the same factors for all pandemics. And this makes sense, because different pandemics occur at different times in society and have different effects. There WAS a triple conjunction of Mars, Jupiter and Saturn in March of 1345, and there was also a Uranus/Pluto conjunction in 1344 and 1345. I plan to complete a pretty comprehensive article about pandemics very soon.
Dear Lynn, thank you so much for appearing in person! Your voice adds to your message. I really agree with transformation. I know for myself that is part of the Path. Giving thanks to Nature causes tears coming from deep within me. You are a blessing bringing light of new understanding. And it is so good to SEE YOU! Big hug, Antje
I wonder if this disease and all the disruption and changes it is causing us finally ushering us into the long awaited Age of Aquarius? Would you care to comment on that? It would be interesting to hear your views.

Hi Sally, I have written of this many times in the past but this would be a good time for an updated view. I believe it’s a mistake to think that the Age of Aquarius, “long awaited” as you say, will somehow magically solve all of the problems of the world. Modern society is broken and needs a complete overhaul but this won’t come with a magic wand. It will require the breaking down of economic and social structures, already underway with Pluto in Capricorn. I do believe that we’re in the transition now to the Age of Aquarius, and when Pluto begins its passage through Aquarius in 2023 this will become more evident.
