Astrological update for the week of July 4-11, 2022.
Mars in Taurus. Mars leaves fiery Aries for placid Taurus on July 5th and we will all breathe a collective sigh of relief. Things have been plenty hot with both Mars and Jupiter in Aries, along with Chiron to irritate the tender places in the soul with the hope of fostering healing and opening the heart. Under the influence of Taurus we are able to find our internal balance point and a renewed connection to the earthy things that bring pleasure and relief.
Mars will be in Taurus until August 20, so we have quite a while to enjoy the relaxation that this placement can bring. There are a couple of caveats though: First, it’s tempting with Mars in Taurus to want to smooth over rough edges and ignore danger signals that may arise when our lives are out of balance or confrontation is needed in order to maintain our inner peacefulness. Remember the bull who is peaceful in the pasture until the irritation becomes too great, and then an explosion of rage can ensue. Second, Mars provides motivation and physical energy, and this can be lacking when Mars is in Taurus. We may need to find other ways to motivate ourselves while Mars is in Taurus,
Very active Mercury. Mercury is the planet of adaptability, flexibility, gatherer and dispenser of information, curious and filled with a desire to learn and know things. Mercury opens the mind so all kinds of things can drop in, and encourages movement. Can’t sit still? Blame Mercury. Under Mercury’s influence we need to keep moving, keep learning, keep taking in new experiences in order to learn more about ourselves.
In mythology, Mercury was the only god who could travel into the Underworld which was Pluto’s domain. Mercury was therefore able to bring messages back and forth, and astrological Mercury serves as a conduit for messages from the conscious mind to the subconscious, and back again. Mercury leaves its own sign of Gemini for Cancer on July 5th, shifting the focus from curiosity and activity to feelings and emotions. The Sun is already in Cancer so the focus on family, food and feeling will be accentuated. With Mercury in Cancer we tend to think more emotionally and it can be more difficult to think objectively. On the plus side, those of us who have difficulty knowing how we feel about things will find this easier!
Here’s what you need to know about the week ahead. (Dates and times are for the Eastern time zone, please adjust for your locality.)
Monday July 4. We begin the week with the Moon in detail-loving Virgo. Mars is finishing up its journey through Aries so we haven’t lost the fire yet, making this a good day to organize and complete projects which is what I plan to do today! The Moon makes primarily harmonious aspects, although we may find communication with loved ones a little difficult for a few hours in the afternoon.
(Virgo Moon sextile Sun 9:03 am, Moon square Venus 11:37 am, Moon trine Uranus 7:22 pm.)
Tuesday July 5. Both Mercury and Mars change signs today as described above, and we may experience this as feeling a little unsettled. Fortunately these two planets interact in harmony for much of the day, energizing the mind and helping to clarify our thoughts. This is a very good condition for writers or any kind of organization.
The Virgo Moon interacts comfortably with Ceres and Pluto today, fortunate aspects for a positive sense of well-being, and then the Moon enters Libra at 10:24 pm EDT. With the Moon in Libra we will require a greater sense of equilibrium over the next couple of days, and will be more sensitive to disharmony. Such disharmony could present itself for a few hours very late at night EDT under a stressful Moon/Mercury aspect but that will soon pass.
(Mars enters Taurus 2:03 am, Mercury enters Cancer 2:25 am, Mercury sextile Mars 2:36 am, Moon sextile Ceres 2:52 am, opposite Neptune 9:45 am, trine Pluto 2:03 pm. Moon enters Libra 6:24 pm, square Mercury 9:30 pm.)
Wednesday July 6. The Moon is in Venus-ruled Libra, and Venus harmonizes with Chiron today making this truly a day for love and the pursuit of beauty and sweet things. Venus encourages artistry and aesthetics as well as relationships of equality and harmony, and the healing energies of Chiron offers a path to improve all of our relationships (with others and with ourselves) so that we can better experience that balance and peacefulness.
(Moon opposite Jupiter 9:12 am, Venus sextile Chiron 1:17 pm, Moon square Sun 10:14 pm.)
Thursday July 7. The Libra Moon is quite active today which may feel somewhat unsettling, especially with Libra so sensitive to disharmony. We may have brief sensations of discomfort throughout the day that will soon diffuse into greater comfort. Lunar aspects last only for a few hours but when there are so many in one day it can feel a bit like a panorama of feelings.
(Moon opposite Chiron 4:45 am, trine Venus 1:53 am, square Ceres 12:32 pm, trine Saturn 3:17 pm, square Pluto 9:03 pm.)
Friday July 8. The Moon makes the shift into Scorpio early in the morning, intensifying our drives and passions for a few days. This could be somewhat problematic today, since the Sun illuminates some old wounds that are ready to be processed and released. Ultimately the healing of these wounds is a positive experience since once we are liberated from these old patterns we feel more free and so much lighter. But the process is not always comfortable, especially in the morning when the Scorpio Moon faces off with Mars.
By afternoon though the clouds will begin to part and a nice Moon/Mercury aspect will aid in more positivity and understanding. We will want to take some care, however, because a Mercury/Jupiter aspect is building to culminate on Saturday morning which brings potential for miscommunication and could cause us to be somewhat impatient.
(Moon enters Scorpio 1:15 am, Moon opposite Mars 5:06 am, Sun square Chiron 9:22 pm, Moon trine Mercury 1:31 pm.)
Saturday July 9. That Mercury/Jupiter aspect that begins on Friday culminates early Saturday morning EDT, but then we have mostly clear astrological skies for much of the day. The Moon is still in Scorpio so emotions rule, but even so this would be a good day to try something new and unexpected.
Late in the evening we may experience some restriction or a bit of isolation but that will soon pass.
(Mercury square Jupiter 2:13 am, Moon trine Sun 7:10 am, opposite Uranus 8:34 am, trine Ceres 6:20 pm, square Saturn 7:04 pm, trine Neptune 8:55 pm.)
Sunday July 10. Plan to celebrate something great today! There is nothing but positive planetary energies all day, and that will spill over into Monday as well. The Moon ends its journey through Scorpio on a positive note before moving into Sagittarius around 8:30 am EDT. The Sagittarius Moon inspires us to not sweat the small stuff, as they say, and expand our vision to accommodate a bigger dream. A wonderful Sun/Uranus aspect encourages the introduction of something new and exciting with an abundance of sparkling delight.
(Moon sextile Pluto 12:34 am, Moon enters Sagittarius 4:34 am, Sun sextile Uranus 4:38 am, Moon trine Jupiter 6:02 pm.)
I’m always happy to end the weekly forecast on a positive note, and it doesn’t get much better than this. ❤️
