The Astrology of the Charter for Compassion

The combination of Jupiter and Neptune aligns religious philosophy and thought (Jupiter) with the spirituality of the experience of compassion (Neptune).  Jupiter and Neptune conjoined between May and July of this summer as part of the larger planetary cycle that includes Chiron, the planet of wounding and healing.  The alignment between Chiron and Neptune began in February of 2009.
Last year Karen Amstrong, winner of the TED prize in 2008 and a former nun, requested of the TED community:

“I wish that you would help with the creation, launch and propagation of a Charter for Compassion, crafted by a group of leading inspirational thinkers from the three Abrahamic traditions of Judaism, Christianity and Islam and based on the fundamental principles of universal justice and respect.”

The first phase of the project was the writing of the Charter in the fall of 2008, and in February of 2009, as Chiron (healing) and Neptune (compassion and spirituality) conjoined in the sky, the Charter was given to the Council of Conscience, a group of spiritual teachers from a variety of nations and faiths, for finalization.
The Charter for Compassion was released on November 14, hours before Saturn (structure and rules) formed an exact square to Pluto (transformation, endings and new beginnings).  There are several major planetary cycles at work right now:
  • the triple conjunction of Jupiter, Chiron and Neptune which has encouraged us to face the wounds of the past so that they can be healed (Chiron) and the ego transcended through spiritual experience and universal compassion (Neptune);
  • the opposition between Saturn (the status quo, conventional rules of behavior) and Uranus (radical new ideas and revolutionary thought forms);
  • the square from Saturn to Pluto, completing the breakdown (Pluto) of social and governmental […]

“Boomsday” is Coming

I am on vacation until November 12th and will try to post as internet access permits.  Meanwhile I am reposting some interesting articles from the past.

A column by Robert Samuelson about the upcoming “Boomsday” – the time (projected to be 2011) when 77 million baby boomers begin hitting the age of 65 and demanding their social security payouts. Because of the nature of the Social Security system, it will be the Boomers’ children whose social security taxes are paying for their parents’ retirement.

Many social critics anticipate a “generational backlash” when taxes have to be raised to accommodate the burgeoning Social Security program, and this dovetails nicely with the upcoming square of Uranus in Aries (revolution for individual rights) to Pluto in Capricorn (breaking down the power structure). Uranus enters Aries in 2010 and enters the orb of the square, with the exact square taking place in 2012. Capricorn rules finances and investments, and Social Security falls under the Plutonic realm of “other people’s money.” I have been anticipating a great deal of social unrest at that time, but this intergenerational battle could be a part of that as well.

The Astrology of the Windows 7 Release

The formal launch of the new Windows 7 software by Microsoft took place yesterday, October 21, at 11:08 am in New York City according to Cnet’s live blog.  The chart for this event has the Sun in Libra and Venus in the 10th house of the public, which bodes well for its acceptance by consumers and it has already generated some favorable reviews..
Sagittarius is rising in the chart, echoing the general optimism and favorable reviews that surrounds the launch of Windows 7.  The Moon is also in Sagittarius, though it sits in the 12th house which is not generally advantageous for electional charts and suggests that few people will actually care about Windows 7.  Still, the Moon is in a favorable sextile to that 10th house Venus which will offset any negative effect.

Saturn is precariously close to a conjunction to the Midheaven, or public exposure of the product, and that suggests delays and disappointments in its success even though success is relatively assured with Venus elevated in the that 10th house.  But conventional wisdom recommends never buying the initial version of any Microsoft product, so Windows 7 may remain hidden in the 12th house for quite some time.

Astrological Musings – Now Available on Kindle

You can now read Astrological Musings on your Kindle, Amazon’s e-book reader.  I just got one for my birthday, and I am pretty excited about it.

Unfortunately, I cannot offer it at no charge and Amazon decided to put a price of $1.99 per month on transmitting it wirelessly to you.  That’s their highest blog price so they must think it’s worth it.  At any rate, I apologize for that but if you’d like to get AM on your Kindle every day, visit the link.  They will give you 14 days for free.

September 9, 2009: 09-09-09

Nine is my favorite number, so I confess I have been looking forward to this day.  Nine is the number of completion and fulfillment at its most filling until it spills over into ten and demands a new beginning.

Astrologically, nine corresponds to Sagittarius and the Ninth House.  There is a sense of expansion and a world where life has meaning and everything is interconnected.  Nine is the perfection of three when multiplied by itself.  There are nine planets, nine major gods in the ancient pantheons, and larger pantheons are often divisible by the number nine.

Numerologically, however, the date 09-09-2009 translates to the number eleven (9 + 9 + 2 + 9 = 29, or 2 +9), a “master number” and the number of angelic presence.  Eleven is associated with Aquarius and the “lightbringers.”  Eleven is the number of spiritual ascension and connection to multidimensional reality.

But will this day be different than any other?  That, my friends, is up to you alone.
