The astrology of Joe Rogan

I often like to profile controversial characters in the news as I find them interesting. These profiles should not be construed as being necessarily supportive of the subject’s politics or actions, but they are a useful tool to demonstrate how astrology works in the real world. For that reason I try to be as neutral as possible although I do have opinions and sometimes they leak through.  If you haven’t watched Joe Rogan’s YouTube channel you likely have a very different impression of him than if you have.  If all you read is the headlines, you see a crazy man who embraces conspiracy theories and radical ideas. This is certainly a piece of the man, but if you dive into what he has produced as I have, you see a much more nuanced picture.

Joe Rogan was born with the Sun in Leo conjunct expansive Jupiter – a very fortunate placement which virtually ensures success, especially since these planets are in his 10th house of career and vocation. Leo is the sign of the Self – under the influence of Leo we need to be “seen” and recognized, but also, ultimately, to be the best person we can be.  Aquarius on the Midheaven, a powerful point of vocation and public expression, denotes a detachment and a willingness to consider all points of view  Saturn, planet of hard work and success, forms a harmonious trine to the Sun and Jupiter which helps to facilitate the discipline needed to work towards a goal. The main drive here is for fame and recognition, but there’s more.

The astrology of Alec Baldwin’s shooting accident

The shocking shooting accident on the set of the film “Rust” last week coincided with a difficult week astrologically.  The Moon was just full in Aries, in a challenging alignment with both Mars, planet of violence and aggression, and Pluto, planet of death and rebirth. Any Mars/Pluto combination is fraught with potential for violence, and while I would never say that this alignment caused the accident, its coincidental timing must be noted.

As if that weren’t enough, the new planet Eris was opposed by Mars and squared by Pluto at the Full Moon. You can read more about that here, but with Eris representing discord and small events that unravel into major upheaval, such as the story of the goddess Eris whose rage at not being invited to a wedding led to the Trojan War, we can see how this is no small thing.

Mr. Baldwin was born with the Sun in Aries, and it opposes his Libra Moon.  We don’t have a time of birth which would give us the exact position of the Moon, but we do know that it is in an opposition to the Sun: a Full Moon.  In addition, the Sun and Moon were within fifteen degrees of the lunar nodes, a condition which creates an eclipse (in this case, it was a penumbral lunar eclipse).  Full Moon personalities tend to be larger than life, and when the Full Moon was also a lunar eclipse, those personalities tend to catalyze a fair amount of drama. (Another familiar personality born under an eclipse is Donald J. Trump.)

Why do some people have difficult charts, 1966 edition

Embed from Getty Images

As someone with a difficult chart myself, I have long pondered this question.  For me, nothing other than astrology supports the idea of working out issues, problems and situations through multiple lifetimes.  We are born with these charts before anything happens to us, and when we have a difficult chart and our life patterns echo the patterns in the chart, it’s difficult to blame our parents or our upbringing for these situations.  I find this comforting – the knowing that there is a rhyme and reason to personal challenges gives me a sense of purpose and helps to make sense of what seems unfair.

The death of actor Michael K. Williams this week gives us an example of a chart that was very difficult emotionally.  1965 and 1966 were the peak of what we now call the 60’s – a time of great upheaval and social change (read more about that here).  Uranus and Pluto were in an exact conjunction in the sign of Virgo at the time, causing radical change (Uranus) and destruction (Pluto) to the conservative middle class (Virgo), among other things.  This conjunction lasted between 1963 and 1968, but what makes 1965 and 1966 unique is that the Uranus/Pluto conjunction was opposed by Chiron (healing old wounds) and Saturn (tests and challenges).

That is an intense combination of planets, and when that planetary system is embedded in the natal chart it can be quite traumatic.  The heightened emotionality and sense of abandonment of Chiron combined with Saturn’s isolation and tendency towards depression brings with it the necessity of a great deal of internal work in order to function and gain the ultimate benefits of this combination, which is the eventual healing of those old wounds and a deep interplanetary wisdom that […]

The astrology of Selma Blair and the Mars factor of MS

UPDATE!  Selma Blair kindly provided her birth time after reading and approving this post: 8:45 am. I’ve written a great deal over the years about the way the energies of the personality, as reflected in the natal chart, affect our health. The planetary position of Mars in the chart seems to have a great deal to do with ailments of all kinds including fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, and other such immune system disorders. The way in which we respond to our health problems are also connected to our Mars placements. Mars in the birthchart shows the ways in which we assert and defend ourselves, and how we process anger and resentment.

A reader turned me on to the work of Dr. John Sarno who writes on this very subject from a medical perspective and if this topic is of interest to you I suggest you do a Google search for his work.

In any case, Selma Blair has been in the news for the past few years due to her advocacy for sufferers of multiple sclerosis and that is another disease in which I have found a connection to Mars.   Mars is a fire planet, and fire is the element of action and initiation – it creates the drive and ambition that inspires us and stimulates desire and need.  When a chart lacks the fire element, or if there is a strong Mars that is afflicted by a challenging aspect from Neptune, Saturn or Pluto without other supporting factors, the  fire energy is more difficult to express and can back up into energetic blocks in the body.  You can read more about that in this earlier post.

The astrology of Simone Biles

by Lynn Hayes.  Simone Biles, widely acclaimed as one of the world’s greatest gymnasts with 25 world titles, more than any other competitor (source: Wikipedia), recently made history by withdrawing from competition in the 2020 Olympics which were held in 2021 due to the Coronavirus pandemic.  Ms. Biles had an attack of the “twisties” – a sense of disorientation and resulting inability to perform complex maneuvers.  (Disclaimer: I know virtually nothing about gymnastics, nor did I follow the Olympics so this analysis is purely astrological and I make no claim to be able to judge her performance.)

Ms. Biles (3/14/1997, Columbus Ohio, time unknown) was born with the Sun in Pisces, imaginative and creative, but also extremely sensitive and intuitive.  She has three planets in that sign including Venus (relating) and Mercury (mind and mental function).  Pisces people tend not to want to rock the boat and prefer the easy path of peace.  Her Sun/Mercury conjunction suggests a brilliant mind, and her Moon is in Mercury ruled Gemini which craves change and is easily bored.  I imagined that Ms. Biles is quite good at visualizing the outcome, and a google search turned up this article which cites “Mental training and visualization” as her training secret. This fits perfectly into the Mercury/Gemini mental […]
