The limits of positive thinking

positive thinkingWhile Pluto was in Sagittarius (1995-2008) optimism and positive thinking (Sagittarian traits) rose to an art form.  Pluto tends to bring a compulsive drive to any sign that it travels through, and while a certain degree of optimism and positivism is a good thing, the benefits of this kind of thinking end when other feelings are pushed into the underworld of the psyche.

Having worked a great deal to perfect my own positive thinking apparatus, I know very well how powerful changing your thought patterns can be.  When Pluto entered the more dour and practical sign of Capricorn in 2008 many found it difficult to maintain the habits of positive thinking and started to fall into fear and despair as the life they knew during the economic downturn began to spiral down along with the economy.

What I have learned in my own journey to transform my life is that along with changing our thought patterns we must honor and release the negative emotions that cloud our lives.  We can’t just ignore them or pray them away.  These old hurts and sadness and frustration and rage linger in the body until they can be processed through the psycho-emotional system and released.  These emotions and feelings are our teachers.  They are the debris that remain after painful experiences which we would just as soon forget so that we can more fully understand what happened to us.  This is the role of Chiron in the birthchart – to trigger these old feelings so that they can be processed and healed.  Chiron’s archetype is the mentor – the teacher who having undergone great trials gains great understanding and is able to impart wisdom to others.  These skills come after the healing of […]

Visioncrafting: A Self-Guided Workbook – now on sale!

VisioncraftingI just noticed that Amazon has put my Visioncrafting book on sale, so you can now purchase it for only $9.33 plus shipping.  This is a great price (it was $18) so I hope that you will take a look and consider ordering it.

I designed this workbook to follow the formats of the workshops that I used to lead, and it’s designed for you to follow at your own pace.  Here are a couple of reviews from Amazon which will describe the book more objectively than I can!

For people who believe in the law of attraction and visualization this book is a wonderful tool for manifesting your goals. Whether you are a beginner in goal setting or you’ve had some experience with it (as I have), Lynn’s step by step workbook will take you through the process of creating a vision plan for achievment. I purchased the book last October and began the Visioncrafting process. By January one of my goals began to take shape. I believe Lynn’s method takes a different approach from some other LOA guides. Her Visioncrafting process is very practical as far as taking you through the process of creating and prioritizing your goals. The Visioncrafting process will help you establish a very clear, tangible vision. In my experience, the key to manifesting your goals is directly related to having a clear, workable, positive vision. Visioncrafting is the guide that will help you bring your goals to fruition.

Lynn has done a wonderful job of laying out a plan to take responsibility and help yourself be the best and have the best. The exercises are clear and help bring out the core issues. Every minute I spent working on the […]

Astrology in my world: Conflicted about success

One of the challenges I run into often with clients who  come to me for Visioncrafting® work is a complex combination of emotions relating to success in our chosen field.  On the conscious level we want to be successful writers, business people, artists.  But lurking in the subconscious are old patterns and belief systems that keep us from bursting out and claiming the sense of accomplishment that rightfully belongs to us.

Fortunately, we can address those patterns and change the tapes that continually reinforce those belief systems once we can identify them, but digging them out of the subconscious isn’t always easy.  Fortunately we have a map in the form of a birthchart that helps us to discern where these patterns likely originate but then the rest is up to us.

I was just selected to speak at the United Astrology Conference 2012.  This is the biggest astrology conference in the United States – members of several different organizations convene every few years to illuminate each other.  This conference draws the best of the best so when I received the email informing me that my application to speak was accepted I was shocked.  Like other astrology bloggers I consider myself an outsider in the world of astrologers.  I don’t hold a certification, I haven’t published an astrology book … yet!!  Those of us who blog instead of publish books are renegades – we seek our own path to public recognition.

My friend April evidently also was shocked by her being selected to speak at UAC:

I’m not a big name, I don’t have a gift for schmoozing influential people, I haven’t spoken for a lot of astrology groups. If you […]

Climbing mountains: Musings on manifestation

One of my quarterly clients was very excited to begin the new year back in January. The astrological forecast looked great, with lots of positive transits of Jupiter and Uranus, and very little difficulty. Over the year she has reported a personal expansion, with a greater ability to define and develop herself in her relationships and in the rest of her life. Still, she has been disappointed in the business side of things this year. Although we worked on Visioncrafting in the January session to manifest certain things this year, she had not religiously followed the program, and she was disappointed that her financial picture was down from the previous year.

Most of us are familiar with the hard work that comes from challenging planetary cycles that force us to let go of aspects of our life that aren’t working, or cause us emotional and sometimes physical pain. We look forward to times of harmonious transits as being periods in which we can just relax and good things will come to us. This is certainly true, because harmonious transits (especially of Jupiter and Uranus, the two planets that seek liberation and expansion) will open doors for us. But unless we are clear in our intention, our higher self will generally guide us to an inner liberation rather than automatically improve the financials of our business.

In the case of my client, she works in an industry that has been hard hit this year by the financial downturn but she and I expected that the positive transits would carry her through with more ease and grace than she has experienced this year. But I am convinced that Jupiter can take us only so far, and that while it will […]

Don’t just make resolutions this new year; change your life instead!

new years resolutionThere’s something about the turning of the new year that gives us the feeling that we want to start over, and the making of resolutions as the new year begins is a time honored tradition that goes back to Babylonian times.  In those days the New Year was celebrated near the Spring Equinox in March.  This tradition continued into the Roman period but the New Year was changed to January 1 by Julius Ceasar to honor Janus, the god who looks both forward and backward.

When the ancient Babylonians made New Year resolutions, they were actually promises to the gods and they were taken very seriously.  Today we make the promises to ourselves, and our success depends upon how committed we are to improving our life. To many people, the New Year’s resolution is a bit of a joke; it was Mark Twain who said “Now is the accepted time to make your regular annual good resolutions. Next week you can begin paving hell with them as usual.”

This year, don’t be one of the New Year Resolution Statistics. inst
