A client sent me this article last week about the “Lions Gate Portal.” Reports of the a cosmic portal that opens on 8/8 began circulating on the internet in 2015. I have hopes of a cosmic awakening as much as the next red blooded new age person, and certainly there is a lot to learn from numerology (8 being the number of transformation), but when these writers claim that this is an astrological phenomenon that’s a different matter entirely.
There is some astrology involved, but it is a little confused.
Supercharged Energy Shifts—8:8 Lion’s Gate—Opens July 26 to August 11
Cosmic energy has been amplified and has felt immensely intense for some weeks now—and many people are feeling exhausted, wondering how much more they can handle. [Lynn’s note: This is certainly true, but primarily due to the intense eclipse energy as well as the Mars Max cycle as described by Richard Nolle which is peaking now.]
This high frequency energy is on a pivot that peaks on the 8th of August during the sun’s passage through the Leo constellation of the zodiac, [Lynn’s note: August 8th is the astrological midpoint of Leo which corresponds to the cross-quarter holidays of the ancient Celtic wheel of the year. The “heliacal rising” of Sirius, when Sirius rises at dawn, is roughly between July 3 and August 11th] due to a connection between the star Sirius, the Great Central Sun, Earth’s sun, Earth’s grid point, Orien’s [sic] Belt, and the the Great Pyramid of Giza. [This article doesn’t define this “connection” between the star Sirius and the Earth’s sun, but since the Sun is at 15 Leo and Sirius is currently at 14 Cancer, there is no astrological connection.]Fortunately from there, we will start to notice life settling back down to a more relaxed and manageable level. I believe we will, but as I wrote in my monthly Planetary Illuminations for August, the planetary influences have mellowed out and the entire month will be a considerable relief from the previous month of eclipse energies.
The Lion’s Gate portal activates when Earth and the sun align with Sirius, which is far bigger and brighter than Earth’s sun and is known as the “spiritual sun.” [I believe this is referring to the rising of Sirius at dawn during this time period.]Ancient stargazers believed that due to Sirius and the sun rising and setting at approximately the same time, the combined heat caused many places on Earth to experience extreme weather conditions. [It’s true that while in Egypt the rising of Sirius was welcomed because of the flooding of the Nile, in other parts of the northern hemisphere the intense heat of this time was considered an evil omen (the Dog days of summer, named after Sirius, the Dog Star). The ancients didn’t know about the “lag of the seasons” after the Summer Solstice which was the real cause of the August heat rather than the heliacal rising of Sirius.]This is likely the reason that over the next few days, many areas are expecting to record their hottest day in history. [Er, no… THAT is because of climate change.]
I do not mean to say that I don’t believe there are portals of energy in which great awakenings can happen. And perhaps this is one of those. But just don’t use pseudo-astrological terms that mean nothing and simply create confusion. Other articles like this one are making dramatic claims of DNA activation and incoming light codes. Oh, and for only $66 you can learn how to make the most of it.
If we could magically achieve personal transformation by paying someone $66 to have our lightbodies activated I would be first in line. But personal transformation is a process of conscious awakening, and not to be taken lightly.
UPDATE: StarMan in the comments referred me to the work of Ray Mardyks whom I vaguely remember from the 1990s. His book is unavailable but I did find this article from 1999 which talks about a portal opening just after August 8, 1998 when a lunar eclipse occurred at 15 Leo, followed by a solar eclipse on August 21 very near the fixed star Regulus, an important star in the Leo constellation. Mardyks also mentions that Edgar Cayce predicted that the Hall of Records under the Sphinx would be opened in 1998 (which sadly did not occur) and talks about the significance of the Hall of Records being guarded by (between the paws of) the Sphinx, hence the Lions Gate.
UPDATE #2: I found this article posted on Ray Mardyks’ Facebook page which further clarifies some of these points. I changed the title of this article to be less critical of the concept.
Marvelous, Lynn. A sensitive and grounded discussion of a subject that may be sacred to some.
I too would be at the head of the line for transformation, DNA activation, etc., and certainly those processes are at work on us all in these days. But it will likely require more time and patience than a sudden, shaktipat-type enlightenment. Don’t we all wish!
Tnanks Valerie. I certainly don’t mean to cause offense, merely to point out errors that have to do with the astrology of the articles.
Articles like this are why I love you Lynn!!! You always bring us the real deal.
With respect, you would not have posted this commentary if you knew what the Lions Gate is. Clearly you do not. I suspect that whoever wrote the article you were quoting from did not know either. However, given the way that the humans seem to abuse every advantage they are given from up above, it is probably best for the confusion and rejection to be promulgated.
Robert, thank you for your comment and I would like to know more about the Lions Gate since you apparently know more about it that I don’t know. But I do believe that if someone is going to promote an idea and call it astrology, that it should be astrologically correct.
I wonder if the “gate” concept is derived from the fact that Cancer was/is esoterically known as the “Gate of Man” (whereas Capricorn is/was the “Gate of God). Some say that Praesepe, in particular, was known as a gateway, and it moved into the first decan of Leo quite a while ago. Interestingly, the Chinese name for Praesepe and a few stars around it is translated as something like the “Ghost” asterism.
I hesitate to step on any sensitive toes – Valerie quite rightly says the whole subject you’re discussing may be sacred to some. But it does strike me that the second article to which you link was written by someone who poorly understands Barbara Hand Clow’s Pleiadian writings. I recognise several terms that Barbara uses. Still, it’s possible that the Pleiadians are communicating with Kyrona as well.
Well, the Lion’s Gate I believe refers to Leo. I have some concerns about channeled material – I am not at all a total skeptic because after all I channel information in my readings with clients. And perhaps the belief in a magical portal that opens at the heliacal rising of Sirius is a positive thing as it promotes the desire and intention for greater understanding and wisdom. I do become concerned, though, when something spiritual begins to smell like snake oil.
If you find Keys Under the Sphinx by Ray Mardyks, you will encounter the source material for the Lion’s Gate Portal, Sirius rising, etc. It was written in 1997.
Unfortunately this book isn’t available anywhere. I did find this article. I will update the post.
I’m not trying to debunk energy portals or the significance of ancient Egypt to the transformation of consciousness. But I do feel that if people are going to use science or astrology to explain their magic, it should be correct.
