The Full Moon in Cancer follows a beautiful conjunction of the Moon to Jupiter that aligned around 1 am Eastern on January 15th. Lunar transits are quick and generally not powerful, but the expansion of the Moon by Jupiter just before the Full Moon adds power and majesty to the experience of this Full Moon.
The Moon rules Cancer, and is happiest in that sign where emotions can find their most immediate expression. In the Full Moon the Sun opposes the Moon, and here we see the Capricorn Sun, with its focus on the practical and responsible along with the need to establish structures that create THINGS, in opposition to the Cancerian need to allow emotions and feelings their freedom to create moods and whims and find their own way to Truth. The Cancer/Capricorn polarity reflects divisions between the strength of the inner world of feelings versus the outer world of doing and materiality.
With the Moon in Cancer questions of nurturing come to the forefront and these questions are particularly powerful during this Full Moon with Venus (love and relationships) conjunct Pluto (power and Truth). Venus is retrograde, encouraging us to look back and heal past relationships and strengthen our current ones. Questions that come up now include: How can we take care of others and still care for ourselves? Are we taking care of others just so we ourselves can be nurtured? How can we find balance between the needs of our emotions that rise and fall like the tides, and the harmony that we require in our relationships with others? These are typically Cancerian issues that are magnified right now under the influence of Venus/Pluto.
Mars is also weighing in since it is in a square to that Venus/Pluto combination. Mars is self-directed and driven by individual needs, suggesting that a forceful expression of our own needs are necesssary right now but they may throw off the delicate emotional dance under the Cancerian Full Moon.
Whenever we have complex astrological signatures like this at work there is a need for a conscious integration of the polarities so that a new sense of inner balance can be achieved. In this Full Moon we can find a way to open our hearts completely and allow our feelings to flow unimpeded, strengthening our relationships with truth and healing while maintaining our own integrity and sense of Self. The Moon will do her work, all we need to do is stay open to the flow of the planetary energies.

Great article as always Lynn! I noticed a small typo in the date of the title – the year is 2014, not 2015. :)
Excellent, as always Lynn!
I just had a look at the full moon tonight and it is truly beautiful with Jupiter aligned between Castor and Pollux above and to the right (West).
A very emotional day for me. I got a call from my father’s home health nurse saying that he hasn’t been taking his medications for four days since leaving a rehab center for his replaced hip. My stepmother scolds him for being old and forgetful instead of caring enough to make sure he takes his medication before she goes out in the morning. I am furious with her, but I knew better than to call her out for her negligence. Better to go stare at the moon! :)
As you said: “Questions that come up now include: How can we take care of others and still care for ourselves?”
I myself am semi-disabled, and can’t be there to supervise them. I’m going to try and calmly reason out a way that he can keep track without involving her, as she can’t take any criticism from me without going ballistic. (I was born with Venus square Pluto, so this wasn’t a day for tact from me.)
Thanks for the timely article, Lynn.
I’m finding my inner sky matches the current transits almost to the letter. It’s a bit reassuring to know I am in accord with “as above, so below” at this time.
The questions you wrote that Venus retrograde is asking are extremely relevant to what I am experiencing. Thank you for helping me understand this all in context. As well- bringing my awareness that it is time to consciously integrate polarities encourages me do the hard work rather than try to ignore the polarities. Maybe these longstanding issues can finally get resolved!
I’m pretty sure resolving longstanding issues is a lifelong job, at least from my personal experience Danielle!
