One of the more significant planetary cycles of 2019 is a powerful square (90 degree) dynamic between Jupiter and Neptune.  Jupiter and Neptune are connected through their mutual rulership of the sign Pisces:  Jupiter is the traditional ruler and Neptune the modern ruler of Pisces. Jupiter and Neptune share an expansive view of the world, and a desire to bring true meaning into our lives.  However, Jupiter’s focus is more on the expansion of the Self through a pursuit of meaning and Truth whereas Neptune’s role is to inspire us to break free of the boundaries of the limitations of this material world and the individual Self.

Because Jupiter and Neptune are natural allies, even the stressful aspects like the square can bring about a swell of creativity and bliss.   Jupiter’s expansive and buoyant nature gives a boost to Neptune’s inspiration to expand the inner spiritual heart.  The only danger here is that Jupiter is especially powerful in the other sign which it rules: Sagittarius, and Neptune is in Pisces, the sign co-ruled by Jupiter and Neptune.  All of this magic and bliss and creativity and inspiration is wonderful for writers, musicians, artists – anyone practicing in a creative field or exploring spirituality.  It is less wonderful for keeping our feet on the ground and making sensible decisions.

This cycle began in January of 2019, with a second phase in June.  The two planets are now making their final dance on September 22nd.  Throughout this entire period some of us may have been blanketed under a veil of illusion or confusion which may have made it difficult to find our way forward, especially if our personal charts were affected (with planets in our natal charts between 10 and 20 degrees of the mutable signs (Sagittarius, Pisces, Virgo, Gemini).  In the public realm there have been reports of deception, or confusion such as the mess over Brexit, botched talks in the US with China and Iran, and whatever the heck is happening with North Korea.

The Jupiter/Neptune square has promoted hopes and dreams and made it more difficult to see the facts with real clarity.  Once this cycle is over, the air will clear and reality will emerge, for good or ill.  We can get the most out of Jupiter and Neptune’s dance by allowing our dreams to lift our heart and seek joy where it can be found, while keeping our feet on the grounds and our heads, though they may be in the clouds, keeping both eyes open and maintaining a conscious presence rather than becoming lost in the mists.

Friday’s Pisces Full Moon will be opening portals of imagination and consciousness to trigger the final phase of the Jupiter/Neptune dance.  That will be a wonderful time to celebrate and create, but if you can, put off important decisions until the following week.
