I knew this would be a tough Mercury Retrograde period when I wrote this post. With Mercury and Uranus turning retrograde on the same day, we were bound to be in for some surprising (Uranus) twists of fate and weird events and we are certainly seeing that in some corners of the world, especially in the highly charged electrical atmosphere of yesterday’s Full Moon in Aquarius.
- A software glitch cost Knight Capital, a trading firm, £290M in trading losses when the automated system sold all of the stocks the company had purchased that day.
- This caused heavy trading in other sectors of the market as well.
- Hundreds of millions of people in India are still without power in one of the worst blackouts in history. (This disaster is also tied to an Pluto in Capricorn due to the inadequate infrastructure (Capricorn) of India’s power grid.
- It’s often said that Mercury retrograde periods are good for anything that has an “re-” prefix. House Republicans have RElented in their threat to stop the government rather than compromise.
- Traveling short distances fall under the domain of Mercury and there were two bizarre automobile accidents this week: in one, a man plunged off a cliff while texting. In the other a drive hit the gas instead of the brake and drove into a convenience store.
- Airplanes are usually connected more to Jupiter because of their ability to travel long distances, but when three planes nearly collide due to miscommunication it’s Mercury retrograde news.
- And I’m not sure how to connect this to Mercury retrograde but it has to make the list of crazy news events: Belarus is invaded when teddy bears drop from the sky
In my own personal world, this week I have (a) incorrectly scheduled a lunch date with a friend, (b) had a client forget his appointment, (b) scheduled a consultation for Eastern time when the client lived in Central time, (c) scheduled a consult for 11:30 PM instead of AM so it didn’t show up on my morning calendar, (d) had a service contractor attempt to repair something that wasn’t broken instead of something that was.
What’s happening in your world?

OMG…Murphy’s Law also applies
Took a day trip to the ocean. Promptly lost my glasses and couldn’t drive home. Had to call for help. They had to drive 3+ hours to get me, 3+ hours to get me home and the trip back to their house for them. Lost my Kindle the same day due to bag breaking and water getting it soaked.
Computer mouse intermittently stops working. No reason. Batteries replaced. Still having hiccups.
Drove my SUV to the gas station and it refused to go into park. Remained in neutral. Once I shut it off, it wouldn’t start or come out of park. After many offers and people trying various “fixes”, the police arrived. I then contacted the dealership and was told the keyless ignition sometimes needs to reset so after much fiddling around, finally got it started and into gear.
2 separate monthly bills were incorrect, which took no less than an hour + on the phone, transfers to various departments, one disconnection, before they supposedly got them straightened up…we’ll see next month.
Cable TV remote control decided to go completely bonkers. Had to spend an hour on the phone with the cable company to resolve the issue.
I know there is more, but I’m having memory lapses….
I am to the point where I want to pull the covers over my head and remain in bed until the 8th….but I’m fairly sure the ceiling might just fall on my head!
I work in healthcare and last Friday, the ENTIRE computer database went down that day. Apparently, there was some glitch in Kansas City, MO, where the database’s home is and that shut down all hospitals and healthcare facilities that were linked into the system. Needless to say, it was a difficult day and even though it was up and running the next week, it keeps threatening to go offline!
Thankfully this wasn’t me, but my friend and colleague, Theresa Reed would have won the prize back when I was holding Mercury Retrograde contests. You can read her almost unbelievably messed up story on her blog..
She’s a far more patient and unflappable person than I would have been!
I will just weigh in to say, “Wow, this week was just wow.”, personally.
But on a wider than personal scale; our entire state gov’t intra/internet system was down for the entire weekend, rendering all sorts of mayhem on law enforcement type agencies (think: all databases inaccessible) all the way down to simple phone systems not working.
All things electronic glitched anywhere from a minor hiccup to a full blown major meltdown . Even had someone who has said before ‘astrology is just junk’ text me asking if that ‘funky planet was going backwards again.’ At least it’ll be over in a few days
Thx for your great insight, Lynn! Love your take on what the stars-n-planets are doing…..Renee
I’ve been trying to design a website and let me say this. I think banging my head against the wall until my brains fell out would have been a better idea. This has been the worst week. Several times I think I got it and poof… I mess it all up again! Can’t wait for the 8th.
Well, I was born under a Mercury Retrograde, so it never seem to go as badly for me as other folks. Though I find myself on the defensive more. However, I was suppose to be reimbursed for a trip. Sent the paperwork back and forth 4 different times till it was done correctly, then deposited the checks. Well, today I checked my account and the deposit was revoked. Called the credit union and learned the date on check was 2010, and the other check the date was illegible and they couldn’t figure out if it was a 7, 9 or a 4.
a lof of confusion this time indeed, I received an e-mail that was for a colleague also named sandra, the company network was down for more than a day and my sister and her family who went on holiday to africa, forgot their visa for mozambique so we had to fax them over.
As soon as Mercury went stationary I had my *third* bone bruising accident since 2009. My boyfriend yelled at me for the first time, not because of anything I did- he was fustrated with his job. The first day of the retrograde our kitchen at work broke and caused a flood. And on and on…
Great stories everyone – Mercury Rx does seem to be the thing that convinces more people that astrology is real than anything else!
Oh, Yesterday I just flooded my apartment, and the unit below, and the unit below that one, but the basement is fine… Particularly rough transit. And some odd scheduling at work.
Chaos and restructuring of relationships all last week and continuing now. A doozy of a double retrograde!
My company is about to start carrying out some very sensitive re-negotiations over a contract. Our lawyer drafted a letter which I checked over before it was to be sent. Knowing Mercury was ret, I checked it once, then checked it over again and realized that in one sentence he had left out three words from a definition and if the letter had gone out as drafted, the altered definition would, at best, have cost us $250,000 and at worst wrecked the whole process.
Elswhere, another company I work with was looking to hire for a lead technical position. We got an applicant right after the retrograde period started who seemed to be ideal and was a total breath of fresh air. Until his references came in 2 weeks later and were the worst we’d ever seen, all about how he told lies and never delivered what was promised.
I also have car trouble!
Let me count the ways… Car needs a new exhaust ($900) and a new Compressor for the a/c to work again [pretty necessary, here on hawaii]; the dashboard lights of same car went out the week *before* Merc Retro, then miraculously came back to life once the Retro started; an importantly-placed Lamp stopped working; another light fixture (in the all-important kitchen) died; the laptop needs a new hard drive, AND the backup I ran before the Retro did NOT work (but I didn’t know it, so I thought I was “fine” as far as having a backed-up copy of all my schtuff; the laptop is still under Warranty BUT the computer company says that they’re flagging it as a stolen computer (not true!); the jobs that I interviewed for at start of Retro have *not* gotten back to me (even though I had two interviews with each one, and each one sounded promising– and yes, I DID call many times to try to follow up); shall I go on? …
One of the most challenging Merc Retros I’ve ever experienced!
Oh and one of the potential bosses FORGOT about my interview and thus did not show up; then when we finally got to round two, they cancelled on me after I was already at the location – and haven’t called back yet (a week + later) to re-schedule.
Yow-za!!
