2016 presidential election

Apparently I did predict the election outcome

election predictionA reader reminded me about what I wrote about Donald Trump back in June:

Astrologers often cast a chart for the moment that the Sun returns to its place at birth in order to get a picture of an individual’s coming year.  Trump’s Solar Return chart shows an extremely fortunate conjunction of the Sun and Venus, with Venus bestowing blessings of attraction and success.  Uranus, the disrupter, sits at the Midheaven of the Return chart, threatening to create havoc and suggesting that some sort of reversal is still possible [emphasis added].

The upcoming planetary cycles affecting Trump’s chart are overwhelmingly favorable. Jupiter is the planet which open the doors of opportunity and often bestows confidence and good luck, and Trump has a number of Jupiter cycles beginning in August and extending into the election season.

The opportunities presented by Jupiter are sometimes unexpected.  If as some say Trump never really wanted to be President, Jupiter could release him from the race and he could lose.  And because the confidence bestowed by Jupiter can make us complacent, there is always the danger that like the hare who raced against the tortoise, the hare could become overconfident and lose the race that way [this almost happened!].

Some astrologers such as this one have attempted to predict failure for the Trump candidacy by pointing out the transit of Saturn, the planet of challenge and frustration, to Trump’s Sun and Moon.  Unfortunately for Trump haters, Saturn doesn’t get involved in the astrological picture until well after the election.

This post generated some unhappy comments from readers necessitating this disclaimer which I added to the post:

Already I have received many emails begging me for more negative information on Trump’s planetary cycles.  Trust me folks, I have looked for it. […]

Post election comments, astrological and otherwise

As many of you know, I deliberately stayed out of the business of predicting who would win the 2016 election.  In light of the Uranus and Pluto cycles that the US is currently going through I privately believed that a Trump presidency fit right into the potential of breakdown and adjustment that these cycles are known for.  The only prediction that I made is that no matter who won, the US would be in for a rather long period of stressful conflict and soul searching and I am still of this belief.

If you supported Trump and quite a few of my readers apparently do, I hope that the benefits that you saw in your candidate will turn out to be realized in the coming four years.  If you were on the other side, there is nothing to be done but avoid falling into the rage and despair which turns us into the darkness that we fight against.

The study of astrology teaches us that everything is cyclical.  “Bad” things don’t happen in a vacuum – the challenges come during periods that we can identify through the planetary alignments, and usually occur when there is a lack of balance in our psyches, our bodies, our relationships, our communities, our nations.  There is no doubt that the United States is severely out of balance and not aligned with a higher purpose, and nature has unpredictable ways of restoring its ecosystems into balance.

Until the whole of humanity can live in peace and love with the Earth and its inhabitants, these cycles of war and devastation will continue.  But we must not allow this to depress or devastate us personally – we are in charge of […]

The US has an illness, and this election is the symptom

Cartoon from Investors Business Daily Cartoon from Investors Business Daily

An explicit recording of Donald Trump’s misogynistic sexual harassment was just released last night, threatening to torpedo the halfhearted support of Trump’s Republican colleagues while creating very little stir among his passionate supporters.

Portions of this article appeared in earlier posts. The Sagittarius ascendant in the US chart reflects the expansive tendency of the American empire which is probably the single thing that will be its undoing.  Like other empires before it, the expansion of the national identity (Sagittarius ascendant) through ideas like “Manifest Destiny” which inspired pioneers to trek across the undeveloped terrain and do battle with the native peoples and Mexicans and Canadians who were already living on the land. . . .

Since Pluto entered the contracting sign of Capricorn, however, the cracks in the foundation have become more evident. Pluto deals with issues of compulsion and use and misuse of power, and in the US chart Pluto lives in the second house of money.  You can read more about that here, but the hunger for money and resources combined with the relentless urge to continually expand the national identity (Sagittarius rising) is not a good combination for a sound economic policy.

Since 2014 Pluto has been no more than two degrees from an exact opposition (stressful aspect) to the Sun in the US chart.  (Geeky astrological detail: because Saturn squares the US Sun, Pluto is also transiting in square to US Saturn which applies even more pressure.) The candidacy of Donald Trump with his openly expressed xenophobia has opened the door to the dark Plutonic realms of the US citizenry.  His […]

The astrology of the US Presidential election nomination charts

election prediction 2016 Photo by Nigel Parry for CNN

Astrologer Shelley Ackerman has kindly been posting the data for the nomination of the two major presidential candidates in the US election on Facebook.  Donald Trump’s nomination took place July 21, 2016 at 10:19 pm in Cleveland Ohio, and Hillary Clinton’s nomination took place July 28, 2016 at 10:47 pm in Philadelphia Pennsylvania.

The use of an astrological chart for an event is called “mundane astrology” and it is not my particular specialty.  Still, it can provide some helpful insight into the energies behind events and help to increase our understanding.  The chart for the nomination and acceptance of the candidacy IS the chart for the candidacy itself.

Trump-nomination

The nomination chart for Donald Trump has the first degree Pisces rising which is not a very strong factor in an election chart.  Pisces is about letting go and surrender, it can be magical in the appropriate setting but can also denote confusion and obuscation.  The Sun, at the last degree of Cancer forms not a trine but an awkward quincunx to the Moon which is another message that the machinery behind the candidacy is not working well, with unresolved conflicts and lack of harmony.  The Aquarius Moon has just made a challenging square to Mars which in Scorpio which it rules is at its most powerful, harnessing the aggressive force to be utilized except that the Moon is “void of course” which is a very weak factor in an event chart and suggests that the candidacy will not gain traction and is likely to flounder.

As we have seen, Trump’s personality is driven by the presence of Mars, the god […]

Pluto and the US Chart – An Eruption of Darkness

immigrantsIn the kind of transformational astrology that I practice, Pluto’s rule in the astrological pantheon is to take us deep into the Underworld and reveal all of the dark and nasty corners of the psyche in order to illuminate that darkness and therefore aid in the process of personal evolution. Pluto is the Lord of Death – he causes obsession and has the potential to bring out the worst in us but also the best in us.  Pluto’s placement in the chart shows where we can be undone by our own psychology, but also where we can be transformed and reborn.

In the astrological chart for the United States (I use the “Sibley” chart and here’s why), Pluto is in the second house of money.  To quote myself, which always seems a little weird:

Pluto, as the ruler of the underworld, represents the shadow side of the psyche, whether in an individual chart or the chart of a nation.  With Pluto in the second house of money and finance, the American shadow is a dirty little secret – an obsession (Pluto) with the power that money can provide (second house).  The persona of the country is the sunny Jupiterian/Sagittarian nature of optimism and faith that everything will turn out fine.  But the Plutonian shadow of greed hides in the darkness.

Pluto first opposed the Cancerian Sun of the United States back in 2014 – at the time it was locked in a stressful aspect to Uranus, planet of revolution and we started to see a steep increase in the number of shootings of unarmed young black citizens culminating in riots over the shooting of Michael Brown in Ferguson.  Racism is one of the dark spots in American history […]
