Bernie Sanders: Attack on the heart

Bernie Sanders was hospitalized this week for a procedure to place stents in the heart.  Originally it was said that this was a procedure to open a blocked artery, but it was later revealed that he did actually have a heart attack.  He apparently has no history of heart disease.

As I wrote earlier this year in a profile of his candidacy, Sanders is undergoing some stressful planetary cycles right nowFor those of you who like the astrological details:

  • Transiting Uranus is exactly square to his natal Pluto which also conjoins Chiron
  • Transiting Pluto is within a degree of a square to his natal Moon and will, next year, also square his Mars.
  • Transiting Neptune is within a degree of an opposition to his natal Sun.

All of these outer planet cycles put a lot of pressure on the body as well as the psyche, and for someone in their late 70s, not to mention someone in the heat of a presidential campaign who has fallen to third place in the polls,  this can be quite stressful.

I wish Mr. Sanders all the best in his healing journey and a smooth recovery.

Donald J. Trump and the progressed New Moon

Political posts, especially on the subject of the current president, can generate a lot of controversy.  As always I have tried to be as neutral as possible and focus on the astrology.  Please do the same in the comments.

Donald Trump is going through a tough time right now.  Impeachment inquiry, staff changes – it appears as though his teflon presidency is facing some bumps in the road and this is coming at a time when he is particularly astrologically sensitive, with transiting Saturn, the planet of tests and challenges, facing off in a square against his natal Chiron (emotional wounds).

Things will not get easier for him next year when both Saturn and Pluto (destruction and regeneration) hit his natal Saturn by opposition in January and February.  His Venus (relationships) is involved as well since it conjoins his natal Saturn, and his fragile alliances and partnerships (Venus) will be tested.  However, he will also have Jupiter (opportunity) and Pluto (empowerment) harmonizing with his Midheaven (career and public life) which could serve to empower him despite the challenges coming from outside.

Right now, at this exact moment, there is a New Moon in his progressed chart.  Just like a New Moon in the sky, a progressed New Moon occurs when the Sun and Moon align in the progressed chart, the natal chart which evolves through time as a forecasting tool.  Progressed New Moons occur every 29 years or so and are times of shedding the past and beginning something new – they are significant times of change and evolution.

The last time Trump experienced a Progressed New Moon was in Leo back in 1990. This coincides with the time of the acquisition and renovation of the Atlantic City Taj Mahal – the greatest casino ever built in the […]

The astrology of Pete Buttigieg

Next in the list of profiles for the Road to 2020 series is Mayor Pete.  There’s something about Mayor Pete for everyone to relate to.  He’s smart (Harvard magna cum laude grad and Rhodes scholar), is conversant in seven languages, he’s a devout Christian, he’s a dedicated family man (married to his male partner so ok, maybe not everyone).  He’s being called a Millennial, but astrologically he is technically at the tail end of the Pluto in Libra generation, Gen X.  He plays guitar and piano.  He is arguably the most well-rounded candidate in recent memory.

We don’t have a birth time for Mayor Pete – his book quotes him as being born at night and astro.com and Astrotheme suggest a time of 9 pm, but I’m rather particular about birth times and if we don’t know it to be true I would prefer not to use it.  He was born at the very last degree of Capricorn, and his Moon at night, per his autobiography, would be in Sagittarius, the sign of optimism and faith.  This Sagittarius Moon would bestow the confidence that he would need to continue to pursue his goals.

The 29th degree of the Sun is significant – rather than being on the cusp of the next sign, it actually marks the end of a process.  It is considered to be the weakest point of the cycle of a particular sign, and in fact there begins to be some bleed-through into the next sign since around age one the individual’s Sun will progress into that next sign for the following 30 years.  There is a sense with 29th degree people that they are completing a karmic assignment, for better or worse.

Buttigieg’s […]

The astrology of Kamala Harris’s run for president in 2020

Embed from Getty Images

This is fourth in a series of profiles of Democratic candidates running for president in 2020.  While I have made every effort to appear impartial, my personal bias may bleed through and for that I apologize in advance.  Other profiles can be found here: Joe Biden, Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren.

Update: Kamala Harris dropped out of the presidential race in early December 2019.

Like many others, I first noticed Kamala Harris during the Brett Kavanaugh hearings.  Her composure and eloquence impressed me, as did her ability to make a devastating point with steely precision such as when she asked Kavanaugh, regarding the abortion law question, if he knew of any laws “that the government has power to make over the male body[.]”

As of the date of this writing, Harris is #4 in most polls.  We are fortunate to have accurate birth information for Harris; a birth certificate was provided to the Mountain Astrologer magazine.  Her Sun is in late Libra, the sign of tact and diplomacy.  The Libra personality can be the consummate salesperson as there is an innate sense of what people are looking for and an ability to morph into the personality that will provide it.  This often makes them extremely likeable but depending on other factors, the need to be liked does not build the kind of resilience that is required for the presidency.

Fortunately for Harris, she was born under an Aries Full Moon, ruled by the fire of Mars.  The balance and interplay between the “iron fist in the velvet glove” of the Libra Sun with the fiery Aries Moon has been interesting to watch.  She […]

The astrology of Elizabeth Warren, presidential candidate 2020

Embed from Getty Images

Although this is a political post, I am attempting to keep it free from bias on my end.  Please do the same in the comments!  This is an astrological blog and here we look at the astrology behind the politics rather than the politics themselves.  There are plenty of other places for those discussions.

Elizabeth Warren is currently polling at #4 in the long list of Democratic candidates for the presidency, and she is #3 in my series of profiles (actually, Harris is now polling at #3, we’ll look at Harris next).  See also Joe Biden and Bernie Sanders, profiled in these pages.

Elizabeth Warren has a long academic history and was a debate champion in high school. Her childhood was apparently marked by economic deprivation, going to work at the age of 13 to help her family pay medical bills from her father’s illness. After graduating from law school she specialized in bankruptcy law and has a longtime interest in families who undergo bankruptcy due to economic hardship.

The astrological chart for Elizabeth Warren (born June 22, 1949 in Oklahoma, no birth time available) shows that she has the Sun in Cancer, the sign of emotional sensitivity and nurturing.  One thing I have noticed about Cancer Sun people is that they CARE – about everything.  Everyone’s suffering becomes particularly poignant and personal for people with a strong Cancerian element in their chart, and Warren also has Venus (relating) in Cancer which intensifies this even more.  That said, her Sun is very tightly conjunct Uranus, the planet of rebellion and change.  She is a visionary and has an eye for outmoded patterns and institutions which are no longer working, and a desire to create change to […]
