Sunday inspiration: A voice from the future

Though I have already written a profile about Greta Thunberg, the young woman who virtually single handedly has propelled the fight for climate science into the mainstream, I continue to be struck by what I consider to be her significance in the larger picture of human history.  This photo demonstrates so clearly the power for change that she has exhibited: last year she performed a one-girl climate strike.  This year millions of people participated in the strike for climate science.

We are in the transition between the Age of Pisces and the Age of Aquarius (for more about when the Age of Aquarius will actually begin, follow this link).  Pisces is a beautiful sign of compassion and spirituality, and there is no doubt that the last 2000 years or so have been the most religious of the known history of the planet.  The archetype of Jesus the Christ fits perfectly into the archetype of the Age of Pisces – a fisher of men who is sacrificed for the sake of humanity.  But the negative side of Pisces has motivated oppression and forced ignorance, and many have been sacrificed in the name of religion.  Aquarius is a more transpersonal sign – like Pisces, the individual ego is subsumed for the sake of the collective.  But where under Pisces the nature of the collective is more murky, Aquarius strives for equality but is detached in its nature – Aquarius lacks compassion and therefore is able to see objectively where change needs to be made in order to accomplish the goal of an improved humanity.

Greta has made her Asperger’s diagnosis public and calls it her superpower. I have long suspected that the so-called […]

Lessons from Greece: The end of the Age of Taurus

I just returned from a two-week trip to Greece.  I have been fascinated by Greece my entire life – in college I read a book called The Sibyl about the Oracle at Delphi.  I had an idea even then that I had had a life as a Sibyl, telling the fortunes of passersby in the service of the Mother Goddess.  I never learned much about the history of Delphi, and didn’t know that in Greek times the role of the oracle at Delphi changed.  And here is where I’d like to begin this story.

All of the ancient sites that we visited had at one time been temples to Gaia or some Mother Goddess before being rebuilt as the magnificent temples that we think of as representing the ancient Greece of democracy and the flowering of civilization.  In Delphi in particular, the building which later became the Temple of Apollo was originally a temple dedicated to Gaia, or at least the Goddess who was later called Gaia.  A creature called Python Delpyne, the Python of Delphi, protected the sacred site.  In those days, we learned, the Sibyl spoke with her own voice – she transmitted message directly from the Divine to those who sought her counsel.

Me at the Temple of Delphi

In the legends that have come down to us, the god Apollo slew the dragon Python at Delphi and took over the sacred site.  After the site was rebuilt in honor of Apollo (with a temple to Athena to placate the goddess worshippers), the Sibyl was no more.  Instead she was replaced by an oracle called Pythia, who lost her own voice – she is said to have spoken gibberish […]

“Stay Woke” and the Aquarian Age

Some of this content may be controversial to some readers. I welcome comments as long as they remain civil and add to an intelligent discussion.

“Stay Woke” is a slang term defined by the Urban Dictionary as: “Deriving from “stay awake,” to stay woke is to keep informed of the shitstorm going on around you in times of turmoil and conflict, specifically on occasions when the media is being heavily filtered- such as the events in Ferguson Missouri in August 2014.”  While most of us white people just started hearing the phrase recently, it was first listed in a glossary of African American slang back in 1962 and then  popularized by Erykah Badu in 2008 before it spread through African American communities after the death of Trayvon Martin and Michael Brown.

The idea of being “woke,” or awake, is in my view a harbinger of the Age of Aquarius.  During the Age of Pisces there has been a sense of sleep.  Pisces teaches us to go with the flow – to connect with our dreams, to seek comfort in transcendence and the bliss of losing one’s self.  Under the Piscean influence humans relinquished control to the religious institutions which have dominated the power structures of the past 2,000 years.  Aquarius is the sign of awakening – of rational thinking.  Neither is better, and both have their dark sides.  But the idea that we need to wake up – keep our eyes open and see behind the curtain of Piscean illusion – looks to me like the transition between the Piscean Age and the Aquarian.

The meme of “Stay Woke” often edges into conspiracy theory.  As someone with a healthy amount of suspicion myself, this seems normal in a world where you are […]

The Uranian Mystique

Uranus Aquarian ageI’ve been writing for some time that as we head into the Aquarian Age the idea of gender will continue to blur, and that has certainly proven to be true.  A recent article in the Daily Beast online news magazine wrote:

Are we having a trans moment? Until recently, transgender issues were nearly invisible in the mainstream press—but now, everywhere you turn, transgender stories are being told. From Andrej Pejic and Lea T, two trans models currently walking the high-fashion runways, to the outrage over Work It, the hapless, now-canceled ABC comedy featuring two men who resort to drag to get a job, transgender awareness is growing exponentially by the moment—seeping into pop culture in films like Albert Nobbs.

Take a glimpse at your TV screen, movie theater, and your iPad and you might agree. In a recent Saturday Night Liveskit, host Ben Stiller played a male passenger on an airplane. Suddenly he leans over across the woman in the middle seat and asks the unseen person sitting in the window seat, “Don’t I know you?” The camera pans to Stiller, dressed as a woman, as the words, “Get To Know Your Future Self,” flash on the screen….

The question is why is this shift happening now?

The answer, of course, is Uranus (please refrain from making scatalogical jokes here!).  Aquarius is ruled by both Saturn, the god of form and structure, and Uranus, the god of innovation and change.  As we move into the Aquarian Age we will find that the structures upon which we build our world continue to mutate and transform, giving more voice to the unusual and the individuals that don’t conform or fit into established norms.  We see this in popular culture with the popularity of […]

Into the Matrix in the Aquarian Age

Aquarian ageIn the news today:

Children will learn by downloading information directly into their brains within 30 years, the head of Britain’s top private schools organisation has predicted.

Chris Parry, the new chief executive of the Independent Schools Council, said “Matrix-style” technology would render traditional lessons obsolete.

He told the Times Educational Supplement: “It’s a very short route from wireless technology to actually getting the electrical connections in your brain to absorb that knowledge.”

Mr Parry, a former Rear Admiral, spent three years determining the future strategic context for the military in a senior role at the Ministry of Defence.

I’ve been joking about this for years, but it’s somewhat shocking to see it in print! It’s also a little creepy that Mr. Parry worked with the military where perhaps he saw some research in this regard.

In 30 years Pluto will be in Aquarius, and I have no doubt that technology (Aquarius) will have evolved by then to the point where Pluto can wreak some real havoc!!
