Astrological news this week: Stelliums, Virgo Full Moon, and Equinox news

Planetary forecast for the week of March 14-21, 2022.

You might have read some different articles this week about the intensity of the planets this week because the planets are all in a bunch. Astrological news is just like any other kind of media – we thrive on drama to bring in the eyeballs. But it seems to me that this week’s astrology is not nearly as dramatic as it was a few weeks ago when the Moon was in Capricorn, Aquarius and Pisces and the planets were in even a tighter window of the zodiac wheel.

As this chart shows, on February 27th all of the visible planetary bodies (plus Neptune and Pluto) were within 60 degrees of the chart wheel which is very tight indeed. Marc Edmund Jones named this chart pattern the “bundle” when describing the natal chart – an intense focus which can lack perspective. This tight bundle intensified around February 26th with the Moon in Capricorn entering the bundle, and began to ease when the Moon moved into Aries on March 3rd and departed from the crowded area of the zodiac.

In any case, don’t be alarmed when you read articles like this, things are difficult enough in the world without adding unnecessary panic and anxiety to the mix.

Virgo Full Moon: The Moon will be full in Virgo on March 18, 2022 at 3:17 am EDT, just before the equinox.  Every Full Moon is full of gifts and blessings, and at this time when we have the Sun in a stellium in Pisces encouraging dreams and inspiration but also confusion, the Virgo Moon helps us to ground into our bodies […]

Michael Bloomberg is late to the 2020 Democratic nomination – he only announced his candidacy in November 2019.  He has been a remarkably flexible politician: a lifelong Democrat until 2001 he ran for mayor as a Republican and endorsed both George W. Bush and Barack Obama for president (he switched his affiliation back to Democrat in 2007).

Bloomberg has not only the Sun in Aquarius, but also the Moon, Mercury, and Venus – a large stellium of Aquarian planets that also includes Ceres.  Aquarius is known for its eccentricity and unique life view as bestowed by Uranus, but it is often forgotten that Saturn is the traditional ruler of Aquarius which confers the detachment and rational mind that Aquarius is also known for.  Emotions do not cloud the clarity of the Aquarian perception – personal feelings don’t get in the way.

In fact, Bloomberg’s chart has no water signs other than the Cancer ascendant (and the South Node, about which more will come later).  Individuals with no water in their chart sometimes lack empathy and can find it difficult to express or identify with their feelings and emotions, but the ascendant reflects the way that we appear in the world.  Yet the Moon in Aquarius rules the ascendant and therefore a critical element of the chart, showing the importance of integrating the inner world of feelings into Aquarian world of reason. It’s not […]

The astrology of Brett Kavanaugh

Brett Kavanaugh, the Trump pick for the US Supreme Court, has been under a lot of fire for sexual assault allegations.  The vote to confirm his nomination was delayed by a week so that the FBI could investigate these charges.  I did my own investigation into his astrological chart to determine his underlying motivations and characteristics.  Please note that in these profiles I attempt to put my own views aside and to be as neutral as possible in examining the astrological characteristics rather than making judgments about an individual.

Kavanaugh (February 12, 1965, Washington DC, time unknown) was born under the sign of Aquarius – the sign of rational thinking and authentic behavior.  Kavanaugh has three planets in Aquarius:  the Sun, Mercury and Venus.  Aquarius can be somewhat detached – its traditional ruler is Saturn which can be somewhat cold and disconnected.  It’s the modern influence of Uranus that gives Aquarius its tendency towards radical views that depart from the status quo and seeks to break up old paradigms.

The chart I used is for noon the day of birth since no birth time is available; we therefore don’t know the ascendant or midheaven placements. Kavanaugh’s Aquarius planets are squared by Neptune, the planet that inspires us to transcend the material world in one way or another: sometimes through higher pursuits such as art and music and spirituality, sometimes by drinking to excess or taking drugs.   Because Neptune tends to blur the distinctions that reality imposes, Neptune squaring the Sun can make it difficult to determine one’s identity.  It can also somtimes show someone who is misunderstood by others and not seen as he really is (President Obama has a Sun/Neptune square also).

1965 was a difficult year in which to be born.  Uranus (disruption) […]

The power of 1962

aquarius stelliumThis image is an actual gift basket that can be purchased here

Everywhere I look these days I am reminded of 1962. This year marks the 50th anniversary of 1962, so it is an important anniversary and coincides with the Chiron Return. First I wrote a blog post about Demi Moore, born in 1962. A commenter wrote that actress Janine Turner was also born in 1962, and I followed up with a comment of other major stars born in 1962: Tom Cruise, Jim Carrey, Matthew Broderick, Ralph Fiennes, Steve Carell, Ally Sheedy, Emilio Estevez, John Hannah (in the UK), Cary Elwes, Joan Cusack, Wesley Snipes, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Paula Abdul, Eddie Izzard (Izzard is one of the AquaStell people born in February that year with seven planets and luminaries in Aquarius), Jon Bon Jovi, Rosie O’Donnell, John Stewart, Andrew Braugher. This is the 50th anniversary of some of the major iconic bands from the 1960s, including the Rolling Stones and the Beach Boys, two very different bands that had a powerful impact on pop culture. Then yesterday I did a reading for an Aquastell client, a relatively rare event in my practice. And today I find that it’s the 50th anniversary of my favorite book as a child: A Wrinkle in Time. (I wrote about that book here.)

In early 1962 there was a lineup of Aquarius planets that at one point featured seven planets within 16 degrees of Aquarius including the Aquarius New Moon on February 5th.  Aquarius is the sign of innovation and urges a departure from that which has been known before.  There was likely an explosion of creative intelligence that erupted during this “Grand Conjunction […]

More on the Aquarius lineup

This image is from a work called Theologue from Alex Grey.  Aquarius has an electromagnetic energy component as portrayed in this painting.   The subtitle of the work is “The Union of Human Consciousness: Weaving the fabric of space and time in which the Self and surroundings are embedded.”

Last night I gave a talk at a meeting of our local NCGR Chapter, the Network of Triangle Astrologers, and George Ward, one of my colleagues who works at the bookstore where the meeting was held, said that at the Expo last weekend they sold twice as many books as they usually sell at that show.  He attributed this dramatic increase to the Aquarius stellium which continues to send out intensive energy alerting more and more people to the fact that our world is changing at a dramatic rate.

As we’ve discussed in this column over the past few months, Aquarius has the double rulership of Saturn and Uranus, and those two planets are opposing each other in the sky right now, an aspect that will be in effect over the next year or so.  Aquarius is the revolutionary thinker – the brilliant mind that puts aside conventional wisdom in order to create something entirely new.  Aquarius and Uranus is the inventor, the futurist and the economist; the revolutionary who strives for social justice and the cruel tyrant who chooses to eliminate those who don’t fit the idealistic Aquarian view.  Adolf Hitler’s chart shows Uranus on the ascendant, opposing the Sun on the descendant – his way of creating Utopia on earth was to murder all those that didn’t fit his view of the ideal future.  I mention this only to remind us that Aquarius and Uranus, its […]
