astrological polarity

Sunday inspiration and the Virgo Full SuperMoon

Under the influence of the Virgo Full SuperMoon (™ Richard Nolle) on March 9, 2020 we encounter a polarity between an urge to transcend life’s cold hard realities and the necessity of a well-defined and grounded life in the material world.  With the Pisces Sun conjunct Neptune for a double dose of Piscean glamour, magic, creative imagine, and potential for confusion, the scale is heavily weighted against the Virgo Moon which seeks to create order and find meaning in the smallest of details that are necessary for life in a body.

What is a SuperMoon?  A SuperMoon (coined by astrologer Richard Nolle and now in common usage) is a Full or New Moon that occurs when the Moon is at its closest point to the Earth (perigee).  The Moon appears larger in the sky, and is not only symbolically more powerful but also arguably exerts a stronger force on human behavior, amplifying the effects of the Full Moon.

Jupiter harmonizes with this Full Moon (and Neptune) to help to provide the expansiveness that further enhances the Piscean energies, so even though this is the Virgo Full Moon we may find the Piscean energies to be in ascendance.  This requires a fair amount of letting go of our need to control while still maintaining our daily rituals and routines for the Virgo Moon.  Meanwhile Venus in Taurus, seeking stability and security the pleasures of earthly existence, conjoins rebellious Uranus for a heavy dose of disruption and an urge for a radical change that will shake up our routines and create more space and air.

Under this Full Moon we find ourselves needing to integrate all of these […]

Libra Full Moon, March 27 2013: Finding balance in chaos

Full Moons are all about balancing polar opposites since during the Full Moon the Sun is in the sign opposing the sign the Moon is in.  The polarities of the zodiac are oppositional in nature but some of the polarities are more oppositional than others.  Taurus and Scorpio both are sensual and stubborn.  Gemini and Sagittarius both hunger for knowledge.

In the Libra Full Moon the Sun is in Aries, and this time around the Sun has a lot of company in a tight Aries stellium which includes Venus, Sun, Uranus and Mars.  Aries is ruled by Mars, so the fact that Mars is in Aries is itself a “double whammy” which exponentially increases the aggressive fire and force of the Aries influence.  Mars and Aries are self-initiatory – at their best they inspire, motivate and create a force that is unstoppable.  If thwarted, diminished or blocked they evoke rage and a rebellious fervor that is particularly strong now since Mars itself is conjunct Uranus, the very planet of revolution.

And yet the Full Moon is in Libra and our hearts are longing for peace and harmonious connection with others.  The Libra Moon, which is much more polite and tends to withdraw from conflict. Libra is the sign of balance in any case – striving for balance in a polarized world. In this lunation, where the force of Libra’s opposite polarity, Aries, is so powerful, that balance will be much harder to achieve. But achieve balance we must – that is the lesson of the Libra Full Moon.

At its core, the Aries/Libra polarity teaches us to integrate our need for individuality (Aries) with our need for beautiful connections that inspire noble truths (Libra).  This polarity is made even […]

From the advice column: Integrating opposites

Q: I am Capricorn sun with Cancer moon. This is polarity, and yes my life has been full of utter polarity. Homeless one minute and £30,000 in the bank the next. I have looked on the net for advice to people who hold the opposites in their charts, but never found much that was helpful Hold it all together is what you would say. It has made me very strong. The two solstices are very powerful times for me.

A: Most people do have opposites in their chart, so we all must learn at some point or another to integrate the poiarities within ourselves. The important thing to remember about the astrological opposites is that each has what the other lacks. In the case of Cancer and Capricorn, Cancer is concerned with the home and the inner life, Capricorn is concerned with the outer world and career or public life outside the home.

Your Moon is actually in Virgo, but you have Cancer on the ascendant. The issue of the opposition is made more powerful by the fact that your Capricorn Sun sits right on the descendant of the chart, the point of relationships, and opposes your ascendant, the point of personal identity. Plus, Jupiter and Uranus are extremely tightly conjunct in Cancer and sitting right on the ascendant. So the Cancer influence is equally powerful to your Capricorn Sun. The Jupiter and Uranus combination, especially on the ascendant, makes you a unique (Uranus) and positive (Jupiter) person with your own way of doing things, something that can conflict with the Capricorn drive for achievement and the Cancer drive for tribal affiliation, or more simply, the pull between our work life and our family life.

In addition, Chiron is conjunct your Sun and opposes the Jupiter/Uranus combination which reveals […]
