Sunday inspiration: Shift happens

Uranus square Pluto 2011-2015

[There is] the arising of something new in humanity. I sometimes call it the unconditioned consciousness. But it is also a field of stillness, where you see the torn roots of the human mind. Once it emerges, it’s a process that cannot be reversed. It emerges more and more fully, and you become less and less identified with the structure of thought. And then thought is no longer dysfunctional. It is actually beautiful. It can be used for helpful purposes. It’s wonderful—you are no longer looking for an identity in the structure of thought because now you know that who you are is deeper. You are the very awareness prior to thought. You are the stillness that is deeper than thought, much vaster than thought. We call it “stillness” but it’s just a word. We’ve reduced it to something. It’s more than that. It’s consciousness itself, unconditioned. Which is the essence of each human being. It’s that when you meet anybody in a state of open, aware attention, without labeling them mentally or judging them, then that you are already operating as a current or conscious awareness between human beings.

That [will] dramatically change human relationships. When aware presence operates between human beings, they are no longer dominated by mind structures. On a deepest level, that is also love. That is the only dimension from where love can come into this world.

Eckhart Tolle, interview

We are in the transition from the Age of Pisces to the Age of Aquarius, and this ongoing planetary aspect between Uranus and Pluto is facilitating that process.  As the old ways are destroyed (Pluto in Capricorn) a new and radically different way of […]

Love song for the Solstice and a personal update

20121223-074412.jpg

Photo by Pierre LeClerc I have been AWOL from this blog for awhile, largely due to the illness of my mother who died this past Monday. With my Moon (emotion, mother, needs) conjunct Pluto (destruction and regeneration) it’s not surprising that she and I had a complex relationship. I hated her intensely, yet during her illness I found I loved her with a ferocity that shocked me.

After her husband died in 2000 she decided to move to North Carolina. Tis was bizarre because she and I were hardly in contact for about 30 years. I feel very blessed that over the past 11-1/2 years she and I were able to heal so much of the pain and reactivity that had marked our relationship. It took a great deal of effort on both of our parts but she worked hard to make changes and I worked hard to let go of resentment and anger.

I have reported in these pages that over the past few months the Uranus/Pluto square has been aspecting my natal Chiron exactly, opening up old wounds and forcing me to learn to release and grow. In addition, the intensification of my mother’s illness at the fall equinox coincided with the passage of my progressed Moon over my natal Saturn/Sun/Neptune conjunction. She was hospitalized when P Moon transited Saturn and died as P Moon transited Sun/Neptune, forming a type of New Moon and releasing the bonds of karma.

My mother’s funeral was December 21, 2012 and as my sister said, she would have enjoyed the idea that the end of the Mayan calendar was all about her. Because of the funeral I missed our community Winter Solstice celebration in which my friend Gary Phillips delivered a beautiful love song to […]

Skywatch for December posted and musings on the Solstice and 2012

Better late than never!  The complete article can be found here and here is the introduction with thoughts on the Solstice and 2012:

INTRODUCTION: WINTER SOLSTICE 2012 AND THE MAYAN CALENDAR

For quite a few years now there has been a great deal of discussion of December 21, 2012 as the end of the Mayan calendar. There is some debate about whether this is the actual date of the calendar as you will see in these articles. I personally believe, however, that the idea of the end of the world, or the end of the earthly paradigm upon which we build our lives, would not have taken hold had there not been an energy of change that is palpable and impossible to deny.

When Pluto entered Capricorn in 2008 after 23 years in Sagittarius it began to break down (Pluto) the structures of our worldly existence (Capricorn) that were corrupt and decaying. Economic systems, centers of power – until Pluto leaves Capricorn in 2023 we will see continued breakdown of infrastructure and the underpinnings of our world which no longer fit with the expanding paradigm of human existence.

Between 2008 and this year there have been a series of planetary connections that have fostered tremendous inner change (Chiron/Neptune conjunction) and outer transformation (the cardinal alignments and the ongoing square between Uranus and Pluto). You don’t have to be an astrologer to see that the world is changing and will never again be the same.

Personally, I am skeptical of the claim that the Mayan calendar ends in 2012. Mayan elders say that this is very like saying our calendar ends on December 31st. But this iconic event has become the symbol of the transformation that is taking place and for that reason it is important.

The Winter […]

A look back at the Astrology of 2011

Sankofa birdI like the principle of the Sankofa Bird, which says that in order to understand the future we must understand the past.  When I see a new client I always go back over the past five years or so to see where they’ve been before I can help them to see what the future might hold, and the same holds true for global predictions.  The Romans held the same principle in their god Janus, who looks both forwards and backwards and rules the month of January – the first month of the year.

To understand what happened in 2011 we have to go back to early 2008 when Pluto entered Capricorn and began the contraction that is now spreading around the world and creating one economic crisis after another as country after country implements austerity (Capricorn) measures that continue the contraction rather than counteract it.  In 2009 and 2010 Chiron and Neptune aligned to force us to look beyond the material world (Neptune) and heal the wounds of the past (Chiron).  These years also marked the peak of the Cardinal Drama as I called it (also known as the Cardinal Crisis in many astrological circles) during which up to seven planets and luminaries combined in a variety of challenging positions to execute intense change in our personal lives and in the world at large.

I didn’t write an article last year on the Astrology of 2011, but if you want to go back you can listen to the podcast I did to forecast the events of 2011.  This was a year markedly less impacted by major planetary cycles other than the square between Uranus (radical change and revolution) to Pluto (destruction and […]

Looking forward: The transformation of 2012

Looking back to understand the future.

No matter what you think about the controversy over the end of the Mayan calendar in 2012, there is no question that this is a significant time in human history.  As I write this, a wave of revolutionary fervor is spreading throughout North Africa and the Middle East, and in the United States frustrated workers are taking to the streets in protest against a political structure that favors banks and corporations and strips individuals of their economic rights.

It would be easy to think that perhaps the world really IS coming to an end if you weren’t following the astrological trends.  These trends provide a context for these world events and offer clues to help us to make sense of them as well as the changes that are occurring in our own lives.  The interrelationships of the planets as they circle the Sun help us to define periods of cyclic change that will encourage personal growth and global balance.  Depending upon the nature of the individual planet, areas of life which are out of balance will be highlighted and will require that we make some sort of adjustment in order to achieve a harmonious state in our lives.

In order to understand the nature of the changes that are coming, we must travel back in time to the beginning of 2008 when Pluto entered Capricorn.  As the planet that governs destruction and regeneration as well as revelations about the dark side of human character, Pluto has a transformative effect on the issues of any sign that it travels through.  Pluto’s journey through its own sign of Scorpio witnessed revelations of sexual abuse and the HIV epidemic  (death through sex) which […]
