Sunday inspiration: A voice from the future

Though I have already written a profile about Greta Thunberg, the young woman who virtually single handedly has propelled the fight for climate science into the mainstream, I continue to be struck by what I consider to be her significance in the larger picture of human history.  This photo demonstrates so clearly the power for change that she has exhibited: last year she performed a one-girl climate strike.  This year millions of people participated in the strike for climate science.

We are in the transition between the Age of Pisces and the Age of Aquarius (for more about when the Age of Aquarius will actually begin, follow this link).  Pisces is a beautiful sign of compassion and spirituality, and there is no doubt that the last 2000 years or so have been the most religious of the known history of the planet.  The archetype of Jesus the Christ fits perfectly into the archetype of the Age of Pisces – a fisher of men who is sacrificed for the sake of humanity.  But the negative side of Pisces has motivated oppression and forced ignorance, and many have been sacrificed in the name of religion.  Aquarius is a more transpersonal sign – like Pisces, the individual ego is subsumed for the sake of the collective.  But where under Pisces the nature of the collective is more murky, Aquarius strives for equality but is detached in its nature – Aquarius lacks compassion and therefore is able to see objectively where change needs to be made in order to accomplish the goal of an improved humanity.

Greta has made her Asperger’s diagnosis public and calls it her superpower. I have long suspected that the so-called […]

Musings on autism and astrology: 2019 edition

A reader recently sent me a thesis he wrote about correlations between astrology and autism.  As many of you know, this is an area of interest to me and I have written on this before (the archive of autism posts can be found here). My reader quoted a few different sources which seem to correlate the synastry (comparison) between the chart of mothers and autistic subjects, such as the discussion in Elsa’s forum here. I responded to this idea with these thoughts:

I’m not so sure that you can draw a connection to autism via a lack of connection to the mother. It’s the old nature vs nurture argument. My personal belief (I am not a scientist in the field but since it doesn’t seem as though anyone knows I guess I can express an opinion based on years of astrological analysis) is that since we are born with certain charts, and our experiences echo that chart, that we pretty much come into this life fully formed and then magnetize the experiences that reflect the chart.

I’ve done a lot of work with families and the synastry between parents and children, and even siblings, is always revelatory. Those connections explain so much about the relationships between family members and are very valuable in understanding family dynamics. However, I’m not convinced that the synastry between mother and child is significant or that there are repeating patterns that can be relied upon. Also, in comparing the charts of the subject with the mother, you’re suggesting that it’s the relationship with the mother that causes the autism in the subject. And in arguing this point I’m not arguing the […]

The astrology of Greta Thunberg

I am often asked to profile good people for a change, instead of the mass murderers and psychologically unbalanced individuals that fascinate me.  So I picked Greta Thunberg, the young Swedish woman who at age 15 has become an internationally known climate activist.  Greta has been diagnosed with Asperger’s and, curiously in light of her subsequent emergence as an outspoken activist, something called “selective mutism” in which a child is unable to speak under certain circumstances.

Greta’s astrological birth chart shows that she has the both the Sun and Moon in the practical sign of Capricorn.  Capricorn people like to Get Things Done, and Greta was born just after the Capricorn New Moon so there is a sense of beginning something new.  The New Moon personality has a quality of innocence combined with an intense energy to begin something new and create sweeping change. Her Mars (depicting her drive and the way she asserts herself) is in the intense and powerful sign of Scorpio, and it is aligned with Venus which shows she is intense and independent in all of her interpersonal dealings.

Greta’s Sun is conjunct Chiron, the dwarf planet of wounding and healing.  This alignment signifies an individual who came into this world with a deep soul wound that she will be faced with throughout her life so that it can eventually be healed.  The Chiron archetype is that of the mentor – having healed our own wounds we then can choose to become a healer of others and a mentor to those who share our own affliction.  Saturn, planet of tests and challenges, faces off in a stressful opposition to Pluto, adding more stress to this dynamic.  It’s not surprising […]

Autism: The astrological connection

autismRecently I did a reading for a woman who was born under the Aquarius Stellium of 1962 who was dealing with neurological issues, something that is not uncommon with people who have a strong Uranian component in their chart, and the modern ruler of Aquarius is Uranus. I have long believed that the autism phenomenon, rather than a disorder to be treated, marks a significant shift in genetic patterning of the human race. The statistics are staggering:  1 in 150 American children are now diagnosed to be somewhere on the autism spectrum. There appear to be many different statistical correlations that suggest connections to possible causes: mercury in vaccines, genetic history of families, and even the self-selection of geeks to other geeks.  All provide reasonable arguments, yet no single cause stands out.  After mercury was removed from vaccines in 1999, he autism rate continued to climb making this a less convincing cause.  There is no doubt that autism spectrum disorders (ADS) are diagnosed more frequently now than in years past, but this increase in diagnosis does not reasonably explain the 800% and more increase in autism rates. I have long felt that there is a Uranian component to the autism spectrum of disorders.  Astrological Uranus rules technology and all things geeky – it is the planet of innovation, of invention, of reason and new ways of thinking.  It is Uranus which opens the doorway to “Eureka” type experiences, that seem to come from nowhere in a blinding flash of insight.  Uranus is not concerned with emotion – it remains detached and focused on order. The astonishing rise of the prevalence of autism since the early 1990s suggests a link to the Uranus-Neptune […]

Autism therapy in the Aquarian age

There is no doubt that we  are heading into the Age of Aquarius.   Estimates for the new age range from  sometime between 2060 (Dane Rudhyar) and 2800 (Rob Hand), but a 2160 year cycle does not happen overnight.  There is a transition phase and I personally believe that we are in that phase.

I have written a great deal about autism in these pages, and it is my feeling that the wide spread of children born in the autism spectrum is a signal that as humans we are mutating to adapt to the new energy of the new age.

Aquarius is the sign of technology and transpersonal detachment, so it is not surprising to see that there is a trend towards robotics in therapy for autism:

[T]here is increasing evidence that kids with autism respond more naturally to machines than they do to people. Psychologist Simon Baron-Cohen, the director of the Autism Research Center at the University of Cambridge in England, along with other autism experts, believes that robots, computers and electronic gadgets may be appealing because they are predictable, unlike people. You can pretty much guess what a computer is going to do next about 90 percent of the time, but human interactions obey very few entirely predictable laws. And this, Baron-Cohen explains, is difficult for children with autism. “They find unlawful situations toxic,” he says. “They can’t cope. So they turn away from people and turn to the world of objects.”

This is a distinctly Aquarian idea that disconnects intelligence from emotion and feelings, and a suggestion for what the coming age might bring.  In fact, many have written about a “technological singularity” in which there will be no distinction […]
