Chiron conjunct Neptune

Neptune and Chiron turn direct, and other planetary news this week

Chiron and Neptune turn directNeptune and Chiron both change direction in a few days after traveling retrograde since earlier this year, which means their (apparent) motion has slowed to a virtual standstill as they prepare to move forward again.  These two have been tied together since early in 2009, and although the exact conjunction was complete in 2010, since then the two have been within three degrees of each other. When the Soul Healer (Chiron) and the Soul Teacher (Neptune) get together, you know there is some serious internal work to be done and we are likely to find that to be true over the next week or so when both planets change their apparent direction (planets don’t really move backwards, but because we observe the movement of the planets from earth they sometimes appear to change direction).

Over the next few days we have another smaller, but still important planetary cycle involving the opposition (180 degrees) of Mars to both Chiron and Neptune.  Mars represents our drive and our desires; it inspires and motivates us to achieve our wishes and dreams.  It’s the aggressive force, and when blocked it can turn angry and frustrated.  Mars is in Leo now where it particularly wants to have its own way and resists losing control, but over the next few days Mars will be opposed by Neptune.

Neptune is the transcendent urge – it inspires us to seek experiences that go beyond the boundaries of our day-to-day reality, and it tends to blur and soften the urges of Mars.  This can be confusing if we are determined to get our way, but if we use this time to seek the wisdom of the soul instead of the ego during this time […]

Farewell to the Chiron/Neptune conjunction

Image from HeartSoulVisionAlthough Chiron and Neptune only have made one exact conjunction during the past two years (it occurred on February 17, 2010), they have been within a few degrees of each other for this entire time.  They are still about as close as you can get without being exactly conjunct, about six minutes of arc apart.  But having just changed direction to move forward after a long retrograde period, they will begin to separate.

Chiron and Neptune both operate on the level of the soul; neither planet is very concerned with supporting the ego or the personality.  Chiron’s work is to clear the emotional debris of past experiences by awakening dormant emotions and forging new energetic pathways of healing.  Neptune’s role is in dissolving the ground upon which we rely so that we will awaken to a higher expression of the Self.  I like to call Chiron the “Soul Healer” and Neptune the “Soul Teacher,” so under these two planets we have been inspired/urged/forced to address deeper matters in our lives.

This has been particularly true for those of us in our 50s who have Pluto in the later degrees of Leo.  Chiron and Neptune have been opposite Pluto in these charts, instilling a sense of urgency in healing the wounds of the past.  I have been able to watch the process of the Chiron/Neptune conjunction in the experiences of my clients.  Back in early 2009, when the conjunction first began to align (peaking in April through July when Jupiter was involved as well) clients of all ages  were reporting intense experiences of grief and mourning as old wounds resurfaced, seemingly out of nowhere.   As Chiron and Neptune continued their dance, the intensity of the emotional […]

Chiron and Neptune – the final dance

Chiron and Neptune are within twelve minutes of a conjunction now, about as close as they are going to come before finally separating in late November.  Although their conjunction is not exactly at the same degree, the influence of these two planets has been making itself known since early 2009.  Chiron is the healer of the soul, and Neptune connects us to our transcendent, creative and spiritual selves so these two planets together are a powerful pair.

Over the past eighteen months since Chiron and Neptune have been traveling in tandem there has been a powerful urge in the collective psyche for healing and reparations of all kinds.  See this link for other articles about this planetary combination.

On a personal level, many of us have had deep emotional experiences of release that freed us from the past, or which helped us to break through a longstanding block.  For others this has been a time filled with emotional pain and worry as we struggled to hold on, not realizing that it’s the letting go which ultimately frees us.

In any case, as Chiron and Neptune, both retrograde, take their final bow we may find ourselves looking back to see where there might be wounds that still haunt us; that still prevent us from truly evolving.  These two great spiritual teachers can provide the wisdom that we need to release the stuck energy of the past.

Quoting myself from an earlier article at the dawn of the conjunction:

Both Chiron and Neptune pose difficulty for the expression of the ego. Chiron requires that we process the wounds of the psyche before the ego can manifest in a truly healthy form, and […]

Pope facilitates the beginning of healing under Chiron and Neptune

Better late than never I suppose:

The sexual abuse of children is not just a “heinous crime” but a “grave sin” that offends God and wounds human dignity, Pope Benedict XVI  said Tuesday after a two-day meeting with Irish Catholic bishops at the Vatican.

The weakening of faith has also been a “significant contributing factor” in the sexual abuse of minors, the pope said, adding that “current painful situation will not be resolved quickly.”

The pope’s comments came in a written Vatican statement at the end of the meeting, the largest one yet about the scandal that has rocked the church from Ireland to the Vatican and beyond.

A damning report by an independent Irish commission in November found the Catholic Church in Ireland had covered up the “widespread” abuse of children from 1975 to 2004.

Today, on the exact conjunction of Chiron (wounding and healing) and Neptune (spirituality and sacrifice) the Pope took a step towards healing the victims of the widespread sexual abuse that afflicted Catholic churches not only in Ireland but all over the world.

The healing of wounds that is Chiron’s specialty has been in the news lately on another topic: thehealing of Iraq war veterans through talking about their experiences:

The act of killing is as fundamental to war as oxygen is to fire. Yet it is also the one thing many combat veterans avoid discussing when they return home, whether out of shame, guilt or a deep fear of being misunderstood.

But a new study of Iraq war veterans by researchers in San Francisco suggests that more discussion of killing may help veterans cope with an array of mental health problems stemming from war.

The study, published last week in The Journal of Traumatic Stress, found that soldiers who reported having killed in combat, or who gave orders that […]

Kim Jong Il and the Chiron Neptune conjunction

photograph from Reuters. News reports from South Korea say that Kim Jong Il, the despotic leader of North Korea, is suffering from pancreatic cancer and was diagnosed last summer.  Rumors of health problems have been swirling around him for months.

For background, you may find it interesting to read my astrological profile of Kim Jong Il from back in 2006, and here is the noon chart (no birthtime is available).

Kim’s chart shows that he has a deeply revolutionary nature, with the Sun in the sign of Aquarius, sign of the rebel and the eccentric, in a challenging square to Uranus, the planetary ruler of Aquarius.  We call this a “double whammy” which connects Kim’s Sun, or his Essential Self, to the principle of radical change and innovation.

Mars in his chart is in the expansive sign of Sagittarius, a symbol of a love of freedom and adventure and a dislike of being tied down.  However, his Mars is in a challenging square to Neptune which clouds and confuses (Neptune) his desires (Mars) and erodes his confidence and inspiration.

It is these two astrological combinations that are being stressed right now by current planetary transits.  The triple conju
