Chiron Neptune conjunction

The Frankenstorm and the US Election

astrology of Hurricane SandyFirst let me say that after living in North Carolina for many years I always take the hysteria over hurricane predictions with a grain of salt.  Predictive models have improved over the years, but like human behavior, nature has a way of being unpredictable.

That said, it appears fairly certain that the big storm heading towards the Atlantic coast over the next couple of days will bring widespread power outages and communication breakdowns.  As I wrote this summer:

In addition, Mercury stations retrograde on the day of the election which suggests that once again the results of the election will be unclear. Mercury stationed direct (meaning it had already been retrograde and then came to a standstill the day of the election before traveling forward again) on the day of the 2000 election which was hung up by voting machine failures and hanging chads.  During this 2012 election Mercury will be preparing to retrograde and go back over old issues and questions just as the election begins.  Mercury will be in Sagittarius which is associated with the entertainment industry and the court system, which suggests that once again election results could go back to court.  Mercury will be in a square to Neptune for a week or so before and after the election, indicating not only confusion over election localities and voter registration, but also suspected fraud and illegal wranglings.

This hurricane will combine with a cold front to bring snow and high winds that can knock down trees and power lines.  After a major storm it can take over a week to bring power to rural areas.  After Hurricane Fran we were out of power for over two weeks in our neck of the […]

Astrology in my world: Conflicted about success

One of the challenges I run into often with clients who  come to me for Visioncrafting® work is a complex combination of emotions relating to success in our chosen field.  On the conscious level we want to be successful writers, business people, artists.  But lurking in the subconscious are old patterns and belief systems that keep us from bursting out and claiming the sense of accomplishment that rightfully belongs to us.

Fortunately, we can address those patterns and change the tapes that continually reinforce those belief systems once we can identify them, but digging them out of the subconscious isn’t always easy.  Fortunately we have a map in the form of a birthchart that helps us to discern where these patterns likely originate but then the rest is up to us.

I was just selected to speak at the United Astrology Conference 2012.  This is the biggest astrology conference in the United States – members of several different organizations convene every few years to illuminate each other.  This conference draws the best of the best so when I received the email informing me that my application to speak was accepted I was shocked.  Like other astrology bloggers I consider myself an outsider in the world of astrologers.  I don’t hold a certification, I haven’t published an astrology book … yet!!  Those of us who blog instead of publish books are renegades – we seek our own path to public recognition.

My friend April evidently also was shocked by her being selected to speak at UAC:

I’m not a big name, I don’t have a gift for schmoozing influential people, I haven’t spoken for a lot of astrology groups. If you […]

Thoughts on Neptune direct

Neptunian fog Image from Templatesfactory.net

I have a bifurcated work life.  (bi·fur·cate (b f r-k t , b -fûr -). To divide into two parts or branches.)

As many of you know, I have a real estate business and I have an astrology practice.  That’s not surprising because I have Gemini rising – the sign of the twins governing the arena of my persona.  I am happiest when I am living in two worlds at once.

The conjunction of Chiron and Neptune has been wandering back and forth over my Midheaven, which is the point of the chart at which we find our place in the world.  When Neptune crossed my Midheaven the first time, along with Chiron at about 26-27 degrees, I decided to quit the real estate business.  With the market tanking anyway, it seemed like the perfect time.  Beliefnet picked up my blog, everything was moving forward in that direction.  Finally I could do astrology full-time.  I had little interest in the kind of left-brain efforts required to run a business, I just wanted to do readings all day long (Neptune) and pursue a path of healing and helping others to heal (Chiron).

Then Chiron and Neptune retrograded, going back over my Midheaven last spring and summer.  Suddenly I didn’t want to do anything but play music.  I cut my reading schedule way back, and continued to enjoy the slow real estate market.  I was living a life of Neptune: meditation, music, yoga, daydreaming (fortunately I have a healthy savings account thanks to Jupiter in Taurus).   My usual workaholic self was nowhere to be found.

Then Neptune and Chiron turned direct, once again within a few days of each other, and just as suddenly I […]

Full Moon in Aries: October 22, 2010

Art by Steven Miller

The Full Moon on Friday, October 22nd, is at the very last degree of Aries.  Aries is the sign of initiation and courage; the sign that inspires us to forge ahead despite our fears and anxieties and make things happen.  The 29th degree is a symbol of completion, and the Full Moon is the symbol of fulfillment and readiness for gestation.  There is a sense here of a readiness for personal growth and evolution that can come to fruition if our conscious intention reflects the purity of the Will.

In this Full Moon we have the Sun at 29 degrees Libra opposite the Moon at 29 degree Aries.  The balance between Me and Others is the focal point of the Libra/Aries polarity, and with Venus, Libra’s ruling planet, currently unaspected and in her invisible phase of her retrograde journey, our connections with others can be obscured and confusing.  This gives the Aries Full Moon an opportunity to spring into action in a way that is more self-oriented than the Aries/Libra polarity would normally permit.

For a few days around the Full Moon we can feel more completely exactly who we are; less concerned with what others think and what others need from us.  This could create difficulties in our interpersonal relationships, especially with Mars in a challenging square to both Chiron and Neptune.

The Sun and the Moon are harmoniously aspected by Chiron (the soul healer) and Neptune (the spirit dancer), which suggests that as we orient ourselves deeply with the Truth within healing can occur gently and gradually as long as we let go and let the beauty of the lunar energy unfold.

However, a square of Mars to Neptune […]

Me, the flu, and Chiron on the Midheaven

Last week I contracted a respiratory virus, followed by an intestinal virus and as I lay in bed writhing in agony I thought to myself, “wouldn’t it be ironic if I ended up with the swine flu after all of my ranting over the hyping of the flu vaccine?

As it turns out, I don’t have the swine flu.  But I do think it’s interesting that I started to get sick the day Chiron hit the exact degree of my Midheaven.  Because I’m fascinated with the symbolism of astrology and healing, I have been thinking a lot about this and what it means.

We typically think of the Midheaven as being the career, or public projection of the Self.  And certainly that is a part of it.  But the Midheaven also represents the “point of highest aspiration” – our true calling and vocation – our true path.

Planets in the natal chart are said to “culminate” when they conjoin the Midheaven, and when a transiting planet moves across the Midheaven it is at its most powerful in its effect on our future direction.  I expected that when Chiron transited my  Midheaven I would have a stronger interest and acuity in the healing aspects of my work, and instead I became ill.

Illness can be a great teacher too, but we don’t always recognize its teachings until the lesson has passed.  In this case I am realizing that while I attend a great deal to the health of my psyche, I have come to take far less care of the personal ecology of my body.  I indulge in too much chocolate and too little exercise, and t’s really time to start practicing what I preach to strengthen my immune system.

Chiron is a great teacher, as well as a healer.  However, its lessons […]
