Pisces lunar eclipse 9/16/16: a watery pool of magic

Full Moon eclipse 9/16/16The second eclipse of the month takes place on September 16th, swinging us from the Virgo influence of the solar eclipse on September to a Pisces-dominated lunar eclipse at the Full Moon. All Full Moons bring a polarity of opposite influences, and here we have the mundane world of Virgo colliding with our feelings and dreams in Pisces.

This Full Moon in Pisces is a watery pool of magic through which we can see with greater intuition than ever before (Pisces); however, in the process we may lose sight momentarily of the worldly details (Virgo) that keep us rooted on Planet Earth.  Using grounding rituals to help us to keep that balance will be helpful.

With Chiron, planet of wounding and healing, there is a sense in this eclipse chart of something coming up from the past that needs to be healed, and an alignment of dreamy Neptune to the South Node of the past brings potential for confusion in a swirl of emotions that require greater balance.  It is more difficult now to determine what we want from our lives and how we might be able to achieve it, especially with Saturn’s cold voice of reality locked right now in a challenging dance with idealistic Neptune.

Venus is in its own sign of Libra right now where fairness and equity become more important, but a a challenging opposition to Uranus (radical change) could bring tension into relationships if we don’t allow space for each individual to flower and prosper.  The Black Moon Lilith aligns with Venus in this eclipse which brings the psychic shadow into consciousness where it can become more fully integrated and bring us greater wholeness.

Eclipses are often associated with an “unmasking” of […]

Solar Eclipse at the New Moon October 23 2014

Athena by the late Susan Seddon Boulet Athena by the late Susan Seddon Boulet

Although the New Moon tomorrow is an eclipse at the first degree of Scorpio, there is still an intensely Libran influence during this last day leading into the eclipse.  Four planets (including the luminaries, the Sun and the Moon)  are in Libra, and the Sun is aligned with Venus, Libra’s ruler.  Libra and Venus possess a strong but delicate energy – inspiring relationship and harmony, yet requiring a peace and beauty.

This sensitivity will have to give way to tougher stuff when the Moon and Sun conjoin at the New Moon in the more intensely demanding sign of Scorpio on October 23rd at 5:57 pm Eastern time.  Scorpio says “forget your dainty tea parties and your loving relationships – strip yourself of your polite veneer and find your true passion.”   Scorpio has no patience for the superficial and encourages us to walk bravely into the fire of our dreams where any hesitation and fears can be burned away, leaving us to be reborn in the ashes of the fire – a cathartic emergence into our true selves and our true empowerment.

The zero degree point of Scorpio marks the entry into the period between the autumn equinox and the winter solstice that culminates at 15 Scorpio.  This is the time when the veil grows thin and communication between the worlds of the dead and the living may occur. We are highly connected now to the interplay of dimensions and intuitive abilities are at their peak.

Venus continues to play an important role, meeting the Sun and Moon in Scorpio and preparing us to dive into the depths of the dark pool.  There is tremendous potential now for our […]

First of three Supermoons: July 12 2014

Supermoon July 2014The first of the summer Supermoons will take place on July 12th.  The term Supermoon was coined by astrologer Richard Nolle to describe the Moon that when full (i.e., opposite the Sun) is at its perigee or closest point to the earth.

When a Supermoon occurs at a Full Moon the effect of the lunation is amplified.  Everyone responds differently to Full Moons.  Some become more emotional.  Some become more anxious.  Some (like me!) have trouble sleeping.  Some have no experience of a Full Moon at all.

Much of your experience of Full Moons generally depends on the makeup of your astrological chart, but also whether the lunation makes a mathematical relationship to your own chart.  For example, if you have a challenging planetary system in your chart at 20 degrees Capricorn, a Full Moon at 20 degrees Capricorn or thereabouts will affect you more personally.

The Capricorn Full Moon brings a fascination with the material world – how will we master our finances?  What is our role in the world around us?  How can we feel fulfilled in our chosen profession and vocation?  How do we resolve the tension between our inner and home (Cancer) with the need to make a mark in the world? (Capricorn).

Richard Nolle has connected the Supermoon with an increase in geophysical activity such as earthquakes, floods, and even solar flares.  He is nearly always correct!

What makes this particular Supermoon even more dramatic is the fact that the lunation makes a nearly exact square to the lunar nodes.  A lunation is called an eclipse when the Sun and Moon are conjunct the lunar nodes – the square aspect is more intense and creates more drama for the Moon.  Heightened emotional intensity will be the […]

Aries Full Moon Eclipse: October 2013

eclipseThe Moon is full in Aries tonight at 7:37 pm Eastern, meaning the Moon will be opposite the Libra Sun.  The opposition of the Moon to the Sun indicates a tension between emotion (Moon) and reason (Sun), between conscious thought (Sun and instinctive drives (Moon). The word “tension” is defined as “the state of being stretched tight.”  In the Full Moon (or any other planetary opposition as well) we are being stretched to our outer limits to use all of our resources and gifts as nature intended.  Full Moons can be times of extremes, offering us the opportunity to stretch beyond our normal comfort level. When the Moon is in Aries we long (Moon) to be able to be no less than our complete and absolute selves (Aries) – we long to have our own way, to initiate actions that will effectuate our desires, to fly solo in the direction of our dreams.  This self-oriented positioning is diametrically opposed to the Libra Sun which attempts to create harmony by bringing together opposites and conflicting forces, giving up and compromising in order to bring that sense of harmony into being. The Libra Full Moon is always an interesting event because the Full Moon itself requires that we balance and integrate two opposing forces, and the Libra influence here assists in that integration.  Somehow we must find a way to ensure that we have unfettered access to our own dreams and desires (Aries) while remaining in relationship and finding compromise (Libra).  Rather like the US government over the past week! Although this is an astronomical eclipse, it is a weak one by astrological standards.  Astronomers classify a lunar event as an eclipse when the nodes of the Moon are […]

Eclipses and fear

While I’m thrilled that astrology is spreading like wildfire on the internet, I am less thrilled at the fear that is sometimes generated, both by astrologers and by readers themselves.

I’d like to post a portion of an email from a client, perhaps this may be helpful for others.

Client: I read on another site that this lunar eclipse is a big one for Virgos born 17-21.
I’m really nervous. Can’t find my CD of our reading to check if this is a day I should stay in bed:)

Lynn: I’m sorry that I am just responding to your email and the eclipse happened last night. The reason that site said this about Virgos is because the lunar eclipse was in a square aspect to your Sun. But more important for your chart, it also made a very tight square to your Moon. This suggests that this period may be catalyzing some big emotional shifts for you – if so, it’s a good time to breathe deeply and let go so that the transformation can occur. If we stay in bed, metaphorically or literally, we miss the opportunity to unfold in a new way.

Despite the fear tactics that some astrologers use, I have not seen instances where eclipses lead to tragic events. They are general internal forces that create change.

Please don’t let astrology scare you! It should be a tool to bring wisdom into our lives, and where there is wisdom fear disappears.

Please note that I am unable to offer free readings to the general public unless they are clients.
