The Astrology of the U.S. Midterm Election, 2022 edition

Zazzle

Election Day in the U.S. falls on November 8th this year. Whoever decided to schedule Election Day during Scorpio season clearly wasn’t working with an astrologer – how much nicer would it have been to hold the election during Libra season when everyone wanted to be nice. Oh wait, then nobody would be able to make up their minds. 😃

Lunar eclipse. This year the midterm elections fall not only in Scorpio season, but on the day of a lunar eclipse at dawn in Washington, the Moon opposite the Sun at 15 degrees of the Taurus/Scorpio axis. This is one of the cross-quarter Celtic power days (Samhain), and with a lunar eclipse on this day it’s bound to carry a great deal of potential to create waves.

This is a total eclipse, with the lunar nodes just three degrees from the Sun and Moon which intensifies the eclipse energies – there is a sense here of something underground about to burst, which is then pushed into consciousness with an almost violent thrust. Mercury is exactly conjunct the Sun within one minute of a degree, something called “cazimi,” suggesting that ideas and communication could be lost under the power of the brilliant nuclear explosive energies emerging at this time. On top of this, Uranus, planet of “shock and awe” – sudden change and eruption of awareness – virtually ensures that what happens on Election Day this year is impossible to predict (exact conjunction to the Taurus Moon and opposes the Sun and Mercury).

The position of the lunar nodes is critical in an eclipse, and here we have the North Node of fate tied in with the eclipse of the lunar energies, and the South Node of […]

US 2020 astrological election prediction realities

ABC news

Please note that any comments from either side of the aisle which serve only to inflame and do not add productively to the conversation will be deleted.

Predicting the outcome of an election is a tempting exercise, but extremely difficult in practice.  In 2016 astrologers everywhere attempted to predict whether Clinton or Trump would win the November US Presidential election.  You can geek out here and read the article and comments breaking down results by whether the astrologer followed the tropical or sidereal zodiac, was US-based or international etc., but the important takeaway is that of the 90 predictions collected in the article, 62.1% predicted a Clinton win and 37.9% predicted a Trump win. These predictions were based on a nearly infinite assortment of techniques including ancient and obscure techniques such as firdaria, vertical zodiac, whatever that is, and something my friend Barry Goddard called “a non-astrological judgement that politically the more charismatic candidate usually wins.”

62.1% predicted a Clinton win; 37.9% predicted Trump would win.  This wasn’t far off from Gallup’s polling which gave Clinton a 51% chance over 32% for Trump.

After the election some astrologers attempted to blame the incorrect predictions on faulty birth data, but in this kind of prediction there are so many factors.  The individual candidates, their personalities and their planetary cycles affecting them at the time of the election.  Whether or not they connect with the People as reflected in the chart for the United States.  Which chart for the United States is used (most astrologers, myself included, use the chart from July 4 1776 but there are many others).  The mood of the People on election day.  Planetary conditions for the US chart and how […]

The astrology of Hillary Clinton: 2015 edition

Hillary-ClintonA portion of this article was originally written in 2006 before the 2008 elections.  This article is an astrological profile only and is not intended as a promotion of a particular candidate.

In a move that surprised literally no one, Hillary Clinton announced her candidacy for the 2016 elections.  In the past eight years since she first ran for president she appears to have mellowed and found her footing in the international political stage.

Birthchart and personality analysis

Since her appearance on the national political stage, there was no doubting the power of Hillary Clinton. Hillary had been an overachiever from an early age: in high school she served as class president, student council and debating team member, and member of the National Honor Society. As a Republican, she worked actively for the campaign of Barry Goldwater at the age of 16 and went on to become President of the Wellesley chapter of College Republicans. Moved by the death of Martin Luther King her political views became more liberal and she joined the Democratic party. Valedictorian of her class, she graduated with honors in political science and became the first student in the history of Wellesley College to deliver the commencement address at her own graduation.

Hillary went on to obtain a law degree from Yale with a specialization in children’s rights (another earmark for the Cancer ascendant which is focused on the family and nurturing). After marrying Bill Clinton and as the first female lawyer at the Rose Law firm, Hillary continued her child advocacy work on a pro bono basis.

Hillary Clinton’s birthchart shows a strong personality: She has four planets in intense Scorpio, including her Sun, Chiron, Venus and Mercury. Scorpio is an intensely emotional sign that imposes […]

Catching up on the news, astrological and otherwise

One of these days I will write a post on my own personal astrology.  It’s been quite something: the end of my Saturn return this summer and fall, the square of Uranus and Pluto falling right on my Chiron, and now Saturn sitting on my Mercury making it very difficult to come up with anything creative to say which explains why you have heard less of me recently.

But in the  meantime… we had an election, and Obama was elected.  There were no hanging chads, very few Mercury retrograde fiascos (unless you count Mitt Romney’s victory webpage and voting problems in Florida that have more to do with their political system than Mercury.  Now that we’re past the election, though, the political situation in the US seems very much the same as it did previous to the election: gridlock and partisan bickering.

Saturn is now in Scorpio and suddenly there has been an eruption of sex scandals and sexual abuse allegations.  Saturn was last in Scorpio in the early 1980s, joined by Pluto in 1983.  We saw this kind of surfacing of sexual abuse the last time Saturn was in Scorpio, but of course the presence of Pluto intensified the drama and brought out the dark side to a far greater extent than what we are likely to see now.

Neptune turns direct today so don’t be surprised if things are a bit murkier than usual right now.  While Neptune is stationary in the sky, creative inspiration is powerful and we can find it easier to achieve a transcendence in our spiritual life that is normally more difficult.  Meditation and prayer are important now, but so is music, art, nature and other activities that create a deep sense […]

The Frankenstorm and the US Election

astrology of Hurricane SandyFirst let me say that after living in North Carolina for many years I always take the hysteria over hurricane predictions with a grain of salt.  Predictive models have improved over the years, but like human behavior, nature has a way of being unpredictable.

That said, it appears fairly certain that the big storm heading towards the Atlantic coast over the next couple of days will bring widespread power outages and communication breakdowns.  As I wrote this summer:

In addition, Mercury stations retrograde on the day of the election which suggests that once again the results of the election will be unclear. Mercury stationed direct (meaning it had already been retrograde and then came to a standstill the day of the election before traveling forward again) on the day of the 2000 election which was hung up by voting machine failures and hanging chads.  During this 2012 election Mercury will be preparing to retrograde and go back over old issues and questions just as the election begins.  Mercury will be in Sagittarius which is associated with the entertainment industry and the court system, which suggests that once again election results could go back to court.  Mercury will be in a square to Neptune for a week or so before and after the election, indicating not only confusion over election localities and voter registration, but also suspected fraud and illegal wranglings.

This hurricane will combine with a cold front to bring snow and high winds that can knock down trees and power lines.  After a major storm it can take over a week to bring power to rural areas.  After Hurricane Fran we were out of power for over two weeks in our neck of the […]
