Full Moon personality

The astrology of Alec Baldwin’s shooting accident

The shocking shooting accident on the set of the film “Rust” last week coincided with a difficult week astrologically.  The Moon was just full in Aries, in a challenging alignment with both Mars, planet of violence and aggression, and Pluto, planet of death and rebirth. Any Mars/Pluto combination is fraught with potential for violence, and while I would never say that this alignment caused the accident, its coincidental timing must be noted.

As if that weren’t enough, the new planet Eris was opposed by Mars and squared by Pluto at the Full Moon. You can read more about that here, but with Eris representing discord and small events that unravel into major upheaval, such as the story of the goddess Eris whose rage at not being invited to a wedding led to the Trojan War, we can see how this is no small thing.

Mr. Baldwin was born with the Sun in Aries, and it opposes his Libra Moon.  We don’t have a time of birth which would give us the exact position of the Moon, but we do know that it is in an opposition to the Sun: a Full Moon.  In addition, the Sun and Moon were within fifteen degrees of the lunar nodes, a condition which creates an eclipse (in this case, it was a penumbral lunar eclipse).  Full Moon personalities tend to be larger than life, and when the Full Moon was also a lunar eclipse, those personalities tend to catalyze a fair amount of drama. (Another familiar personality born under an eclipse is Donald J. Trump.)

Mr. Baldwin also has an opposition from Mars to Uranus, the planet of radical action and liberation, which is not […]

Asia Argento and the Black Moon Lilith

I’ve been writing quite a bit about the Black Moon Lilith and its relevance to the Me Too movement and sexual abuse.  The Black Moon Lilith is an interesting astrological symbol – not a planet or an asteroid (there IS a Lilith asteroid but that is a different matter entirely), the BML is a focal point between the earth and the farthest point of the lunar orbit (see this earlier article for more details).

The origin of the Lilith story is obscured in the midst of time, but the archetype of Lilith, Adam’s first wife, is that of an oversexed female who demands equality and refuses to be dominated by Adam. With the help of Yahweh, Adam sends her out to the wilderness without her children (later she is said to have killed her children but I believe that is just bad press) and she then becomes the model for the succubus – a female demon who sucks away the life force of men.  So we have a heady brew of scary female sexuality combined with independence and resistance to the patriarchy.

For the past few years I’ve been experimenting with the Black Moon Lilith, and when she shows up prominently in a woman’s chart (as she does in mine) there seems to be a continuum of experiences that range from at the minimum a strong desire to help and defend other women, to a severe hatred of men.  Men whose charts show a prominent Black Moon Lilith are often both fascinated and repulsed by strong and powerful women, depending on other placements in their chart.

So it’s no surprise that the Black Moon Lilith has shown up in the charts of those […]

Donald Trump astrological update: The “Will He Quit?” edition

If you haven’t already done so, you will probably want to read my profile of Mr. Trump from last year here.  Please note that this post is for astrological interest only and is not intended to disparage.)

The presidency of Donald Trump is now well underway, and it has been an interesting one.  Mr. Trump recently admitted that being President is harder than he thought it would be. As I wrote in my earlier post, Mr. Trump’s chart has Mars in Leo right on the Leo ascendant, a powerful influence that reflects his need to shine in the spotlight and be admired..  Mars is the planet of aggression and independence – Mars does not like to be thwarted or regulated and neither does Mr. Trump.

We would expect someone with Trump’s supreme confidence to have a strong Jupiter component, and we see that Jupiter (planet of good luck and self-righteousness) in the 2nd house of money in a harmonious trine to the Sun.  This trine of Jupiter to the Sun tends to bestow a sense of having been chosen by the gods – there is a tendency towards luck and the kind of success that comes from an abundance of positive thinking.  His Jupiter-ruled Sagittarius Moon helps to cement that super-confidence into a belief system that is virtually unshakeable.

However, there are no planets in earth elements in Trump’s birth chart which would help to ground him and give him a practical sense of moving through the world.  He is all fire and air – energy, enthusiasm and ideas.

One tool that astrologers use for forecasting is the progressed chart which shows how the individual is progressing through time.  In Trump’s progressed chart, the […]

Tribute to fellow astrologer Jeff Jawer

Jeff Jawer astrologerMany of my readers will know Jeff Jawer from his writings which have appeared all over the Internet for the past fifteen years and more. When I started this blog and was trying to shop my articles, Jeff’s site with Rick Levine, StarIQ, was the first one I contacted since their site had the kind of articles I myself wanted to write – newsy pieces that connected astrology to the world in a way that everyone could understand.  Later when my blog was picked up by BeliefNet I received a warm welcome from Jeff and Rick who were at that time writing for Tarot.com which was a sister site.  I loved Jeff’s writing style and often turned to his posts when I wanted another astrologer’s take on a particular planetary cycle.

Jeff was diagnosed with lung cancer in January this year and died just a month later, on February 10, 2015.

Jeff’s birth data is available at Astro.com, and Rick has posted the time and place of death on their website in a moving tribute to his longtime colleague and business partner.  Jeff had the Sun in Taurus opposing the Moon in Scorpio – just past the Full Moon suggesting the culmination of an incarnation cycle with the need to begin to disseminate and share the wisdom gleaned from that cycle.  His chart is filled with the element of air, the element of communication – Venus and Uranus in Gemini and in the third house of communication in a trine to Jupiter, Chiron and Neptune in Libra, the sign of harmony and relationships, in the house of relationships.

With hardworking Capricorn on the Midheaven denoting his vocation, it is not surprising that he was […]
