Astrological news this week: Gemini New Moon & a change of direction

Astrological update for the week of May 30 –  June 5, 2022

A New Moon in Gemini, the sign of communication and experiences, offers an opportunity for a new perspective. The ruler of the New Moon is Mercury, the messenger planet, adding to the focus on communication and adaptation. In mythology, Mercury was the only god who was able to travel back and forth to the Underworld, facilitating communication between the gods. Mercury-ruled Gemini teaches us to accept and integrate a wide variety of ideas different kinds of experiences; under its influence everything is considered to have value for its own sake, and there is a keen desire to learn about many things. The Gemini New Moon is the perfect time to set aside our prejudices and look at our world through new eyes.

Making this a little more difficult is the fact that currently Mercury is in Taurus, a fixed sign which does not adapt easily to new situations, and Mercury is retrograde where we are looking more at the past than into the future. There may be some situations that need to be wrapped up before these new eyes can see clearly, especially since Mercury is within range of a square to Saturn which begin in late April before Mercury turned retrograde. Saturn tends to put the kibosh on new ideas, especially if they are half baked, so this is an important time to consider all details before venturing head-first into a new adventure.

The conjunction of Mars (action) to Jupiter (confidence) which dominated the astrology last week is still in effect and can encourage just that kind of head-first impulsivity so care should be taken. Mars and Jupiter […]

Astrological news this week: Mars in its happy place and a Gemini New Moon

Astrological update for the week of May 23-30, 2022

Mars in Aries. The instinct for self-preservation is a critical one for the survival of a human individual the role of Mars is to preserve the Self and to gratify desire.  Mars is particularly strong when in the sign of Aries, and Mars will enter Aries on Tuesday May 24.  While in Aries, Mars is at its most potent and the aggressive force is permitted full expression, unhampered by the niceties of signs like Libra or Pisces, by practical considerations such as Capricorn and Taurus would exercise, or by reason and intellectual processing such as Gemini and Aquarius would instigate.  It is pure, unadulterated need and drive.

When this basic force of need is thwarted, frustration is the result.  A certain amount of frustration leads to anger, and chronic anger leads to chronic rage and health problems.  The idea that Mars is a malefic planet that brings no good is a feature of traditional forms of astrology in which the outcome of human life is considered to be fated. It’s certainly true that when Mars is positioned opposite a difficult planet like Pluto, it can bring misfortune to the native especially in early life. We often see some kind of abuse or oppression under these circumstances. Actress Samantha Morton, for example, has Mars in Aries opposite Pluto in Libra and she has talked about the abuse she experienced while in foster care and her life has not been easy. But the personal empowerment experience after mastering the challenges that a Mars/Pluto combination can bring can also bring great success and deep feelings of satisfaction.

At any rate, a healthy Mars […]

6.10.21 Eclipse effects linger as we sort through confusion

artist unknown

If you missed yesterday’s post on the Gemini Solar Eclipse you can catch up here.

The solar eclipse occurred this morning at 6:52 am EDT (please adjust for your location), but the effects will continue to linger for several days.  This eclipse is loaded with the effect of Mercury – the planet of thought and communication.  Mercury is said to rule the “small mind” – not in terms of being inferior in any way, but Mercury deals with matters of the personal.  What are we thinking, how do we share that information, what can we learn and how does our mind work – these are all facets of the Mercury influence.  This solar eclipse is in the sign of Gemini which is ruled by Mercury.  The Sun and Moon are both conjunct Mercury.  Mercury is retrograde and close to the Earth.

Mercury requires a pretty sharp focus in order to perform optimally, and when it is retrograde that focus can be harder to pin down.  That’s not helped by the fact that the Sun, Moon and Mercury are all being squared by Neptune today.  Neptune is a transformational planet of mystical inspiration and soulful discovery – it has no interest in the mundane affairs that are Mercury’s domain, and a strong Neptune influence tends to pull our attention beyond the ordinary towards the infinite realm of possibility and magic. Consequently this is not the best day to make an important decision if you can avoid it – instead, we can use this expansive quality  to open our minds to new ways of thinking about our world and how we live in it. ❤️

6.9.21 – Blaze a new trail at the Gemini Solar Eclipse!

This Solar Eclipse at the Gemini New Moon marks a brand new beginning and a fresh start.  All New Moons mark the beginning of the lunar cycle, and a New Moon at the first degree of a sign carries its own signature of a new beginning. Gemini is the sign of awakening the mind: the mental curiosity that takes us into new experiences and new ways of looking at the world.

This New Moon is an eclipse because it occurs near the Nodes of the Moon – in this case it aligns in a tight conjunction with the South Node which represents our past history and karmic ties. The Lunar Nodes give eclipses greater significance since we are confronting and clearing energies that continue to lurk from the past. While we are fostering this new beginning and creating new ideas for the future, something or someone from the past will require our attention. We can’t move forward without integrating these lessons.

Gemini is ruled by Mercury, the planet of the mind, and at the eclipse point the Sun will be in a very tight conjunction to retrograde Mercury.  Retrograde Mercury carries a special potency, and is even more potent when illuminated by the Sun, so all aspects of information and communication are highlighted here – especially the filtering of our experiences through the mind so that we may learn and adapt to this new information.

It doesn’t particularly help that Neptune, in its own sign of Pisces, is locked in a challenging square to the triple conjunction of Mercury, Sun and Moon.  This square aspect can lead to confusion and delusion as well as difficulty focusing or concentrating.  We may feel lethargic and disillusioned, […]

A sparkling Gemini cluster at the Gemini New Moon, May 22 2020

Gemini new moon Flickr

Currently we have a stellium, or cluster, of planets in Gemini including Mercury, Venus, and the Sun.  The North Node just moved into Gemini, accentuating this sign even more and accentuating the importance of the positive traits of Gemini which include curiosity, flexibility, adaptability.  When the Moon moves into Gemini as well and aligns with the Sun on May 22nd, the New Moon will generate a burst of energy to facilitate a new beginning that is based upon new ideas and an openness to seeing a variety of options without prejudgment. The Gemini New Moon is the perfect time to set aside our prejudices and look at our world through new eyes.  What can we learn about the ideas of others; what changes can we make in our lives to give us more flexibility and make it easier to adapt to change?  These are good questions to ask now, especially since the world is changing and will never be the same again.

Gemini can be easily distracted with too many ideas and brilliant awakenings, but at the New Moon the Sun and Moon will be in a nearly exact trine to Saturn in Aquarius, helping to ground and stabilize these new ideas into form.  Saturn (tests and challenges) is in Aquarius right now where it is less concerned with building stable structures as it was in Capricorn, and more interested in building new structures to support a new reality.  The fact that Pallas, the asteroid of Divine Intelligence, is partnered in a conjunction with Saturn right now and harmonized in a trine to the New Moon is an even greater gift of reason and virtually ensures an awakening to a new […]
