Gemini

5.20.21 – Sun enters Gemini, taking us fully into Gemini season ☀️

art by Ciro Marchetti

Gemini is symbolized by the Twins, and in this archetype we see the two sides of Gemini: one dark and one light. Astronomically, one of the twin stars of Gemini is often inside the Milky Way while the other lies outside it. There are two faces to Gemini and they are rarely seen at the same time. The quest for Gemini is to unite with the inner twin – to truly understand that while their outer experiences are crucial for their personal growth, it is the bridge between their outer and inner worlds that will offer the true pathway to greater understanding and peace.

With the Sun, Mercury and Venus all in Gemini now, everything moves a little more quickly as we seek experiences which will help us to understand more about ourselves. Every face we try on helps us to gain a little more knowledge about who we are and our place in the world, and the North Node in Gemini urges us ever forward toward the assimilation of information which will help us to find that place.  We are headed towards a lunar eclipse on May 26th when the Moon enters Sagittarius and moves towards the South Node of the past, helping to clean up anything from our past experiences that is left over and no longer needed.  In the meantime, the focus will be on gathering and disseminating information and saying “YES” to life. ❤️

Tribute to fellow astrologer Jeff Jawer

Jeff Jawer astrologerMany of my readers will know Jeff Jawer from his writings which have appeared all over the Internet for the past fifteen years and more. When I started this blog and was trying to shop my articles, Jeff’s site with Rick Levine, StarIQ, was the first one I contacted since their site had the kind of articles I myself wanted to write – newsy pieces that connected astrology to the world in a way that everyone could understand.  Later when my blog was picked up by BeliefNet I received a warm welcome from Jeff and Rick who were at that time writing for Tarot.com which was a sister site.  I loved Jeff’s writing style and often turned to his posts when I wanted another astrologer’s take on a particular planetary cycle.

Jeff was diagnosed with lung cancer in January this year and died just a month later, on February 10, 2015.

Jeff’s birth data is available at Astro.com, and Rick has posted the time and place of death on their website in a moving tribute to his longtime colleague and business partner.  Jeff had the Sun in Taurus opposing the Moon in Scorpio – just past the Full Moon suggesting the culmination of an incarnation cycle with the need to begin to disseminate and share the wisdom gleaned from that cycle.  His chart is filled with the element of air, the element of communication – Venus and Uranus in Gemini and in the third house of communication in a trine to Jupiter, Chiron and Neptune in Libra, the sign of harmony and relationships, in the house of relationships.

With hardworking Capricorn on the Midheaven denoting his vocation, it is not surprising that he was […]

Astrology in my world: Saturn in action

A few weeks ago I went to Dulcimer Week at the Swannanoa Gathering, which is a series of music workshops held at a wonderful little college outside of Asheville.  I’ve been taking hammered dulcimer lessons for about a year and a half, and it’s been one of the hardest things I’ve ever done.  Even harder than learning astrology!

I’ve always been fairly musical (Neptune is conjunct my Sun within one degree) and with Gemini rising I like to say I’ve forgotten more instruments than most people ever learn.  Gemini needs constantly new input and gets bored easily.  But then I also have Saturn on my Sun, so while Neptune is inspiring me to channel the divine inspiration, Saturn is always telling me I can’t do it.  Plus all three are in my fifth house of creative self expression, making the whole thing that much more complicated.  And to put the icing on the cake, Uranus makes a square to all three and provides the urge to flee when things get too hard.

Anyway, the hammered dulcimer is a gorgeous instrument but I have had trouble understanding the way it’s mapped out, which is unlike any other instrument.  I have a great teacher, luckily, and take lessons every week like a good Saturn girl (applying diligence and discipline).  But I am not a good practicer (Sun square Uranus, Gemini rising).

So at the workshop, surrounded by all of these fabulous players (as well as beginners) I had a crisis of confidence.  That voice of Saturn became very loud:  “You’ll never be good enough,” “If only you had practiced all this time,” “You might as well quit.”  I became very depressed with all that negativity bouncing around in my head.

Then I […]

Rudy Giuliani – A sure road to 2012?

To Americans in the Heartland, Rudolph Giuliani was the mayor who led the people of New York through the difficult days after September 11 2001. While the President read a storybook to children and the Vice President fled into a bunker, Rudy Giuliani was the leader that all eyes turned to. To many New Yorkers, however, Giuliani was an arrogant and imperious mayor, who reduced crime by increasing police brutality and ironically failed to protect the city during the September 11 terrorist attacks by locating the Office of Emergency Management inside the World Trade Center, a move much criticized because of the previous attack against the World Trade Center. And few will soon forget the scandal over his announcement at a press conference that he was leaving his wife Donna Hanover for his lover Judith Nathan, an announcement not previously made to his wife. On September 10 2001, Giuliani’s approval ratings had fallen to 37%. Still, conservatives admire Giuliani’s tough stance on crime and his aggressive leadership style, as well as his encouragement of business and real estate development during his tenure as mayor.

So who is Rudy Giuliani really? Astrologically, his Sun is in the changeable sign of Gemini, the sign of flexibility, adaptation and communication. Gemini is driven to experience as many things as possible in one lifetime. Because of this, they are able to accomplish a great deal although they have a tendency to lose focus. Giuliani’s Sun is conjunct the planet of radical rebellion, Uranus, suggesting that he is a natural born rebel. Sun/Uranus people resist authority and must do things their own way, they flout convention and tend to dislike emotional attachment. Giuliani’s chart lacks the element of water that provides a conduit for the emotions, and this combined with the Sun/Uranus […]
