Sunday inspiration: A voice from the future

Though I have already written a profile about Greta Thunberg, the young woman who virtually single handedly has propelled the fight for climate science into the mainstream, I continue to be struck by what I consider to be her significance in the larger picture of human history.  This photo demonstrates so clearly the power for change that she has exhibited: last year she performed a one-girl climate strike.  This year millions of people participated in the strike for climate science.

We are in the transition between the Age of Pisces and the Age of Aquarius (for more about when the Age of Aquarius will actually begin, follow this link).  Pisces is a beautiful sign of compassion and spirituality, and there is no doubt that the last 2000 years or so have been the most religious of the known history of the planet.  The archetype of Jesus the Christ fits perfectly into the archetype of the Age of Pisces – a fisher of men who is sacrificed for the sake of humanity.  But the negative side of Pisces has motivated oppression and forced ignorance, and many have been sacrificed in the name of religion.  Aquarius is a more transpersonal sign – like Pisces, the individual ego is subsumed for the sake of the collective.  But where under Pisces the nature of the collective is more murky, Aquarius strives for equality but is detached in its nature – Aquarius lacks compassion and therefore is able to see objectively where change needs to be made in order to accomplish the goal of an improved humanity.

Greta has made her Asperger’s diagnosis public and calls it her superpower. I have long suspected that the so-called […]

Was Jesus a family man?

Jesus and the Children

This article has been updated from an earlier post.  A few years ago Titanic director James Cameron produced a documentary connecting ossuaries found in a tomb in Talpiot Israel to the family of Jesus of Nazareth.  The eruption into mass consciousness of questions about the life of Jesus corresponded nicely with Pluto’s final travel through Sagittarius before entering Capricorn in 2008. Pluto creates chaos and upheaval in whatever sign it moves through, and one of the areas ruled over by Sagittarius is the concept of shared ideologies and belief systems that constitute religion.

Pluto also reveals secrets, and one of the biggest mysteries in our world today concerns what actually happened in Jerusalem 2000 years ago. Scriptures have been retranslated and edited over the last 2000 years in order to fit the theological fashion of the day, and there is little actual contemporaneous history to support the stories that we find in the New Testament.

Long before the book The DaVinci Code, my reading had convinced me that Jesus and Mary of Magdala would have had to be married. Jesus was a nice Jewish boy and a rabbi, and as a Jewish boy with a Jewish mother he would have been under enormous pressure to be married. The whole concept of celibacy among priests did not become a rule until the early fourth century CE; previous to that time the first pope, St. Peter, is known to have been a married man and subsequent popes and bishops were married, many with children. This became a problem as the early church began amassing property since children become heirs and inherited the priestly property. It was only after the early fourth century that […]

How the Christ surpassed Yahweh at the dawn of the Piscean age

yahweh I posted this a few years ago but it’s still my favorite post for this time of year.  Because the earth orbits at a slight tilt, and the tilt of the orbit changes over time, the celestial equator is always moving and the vernal equinox is always moving along the ecliptic, the apparent path of the Sun around the Earth from our perspective.  We call this the “Precession of the Equinoxes,” and that is what we mean when we talk about the Age of Aquarius, the Age of Pisces, etc.

There is no accepted timeline for the transition from one Great Age to another.  The Great Year is approximately 26,000 years and each Age spans approximately 2160 years. However, because cultural changes mark the shift between ages it becomes somewhat easier to define these transitions.

Yahweh, the god of the ancient Hebrews, was a warrior god- Moses says so right in Exodus in the Bible:  “The Lord is a warrior/man of war.”  In Isaiah 42:13 we find this exclamation: “The LORD will march out like a champion, like a warrior he will stir up his zeal; with a shout he will raise the battle cry and will triumph over his enemies.”

There is a great deal of confusion in the Bible over the name of God – both El and YHWH (Yahweh) are used interchangeably.  However, archaeological evidence suggests that El was a senior god in Canaan: a beneficent god who presided over creation and ruled over the more junior warrior gods such as Baal and Astarte.  The use of the plural for god in the Bible – “Elohim” – could refer to the family of Canaanite gods that included not only Baal and Astarte but also […]

Venus retrograde and the significance of 40 days

40 days venus retrograde (This article first appeared in 2014.)

Astrologer Marina Macario makes an interesting point – that the 40 days and 40 nights of the Venus retro period corresponds to the 40 days and 40 nights that Jesus traveled in the wilderness.

Forty is mentioned in the bible often, but most famously when Jesus was tempted by Satan in the wilderness for forty days. Could this be referring to the astrological phenomena of Venus retrograde? After all, Venus has two sides to her. She is the goddess of love and war according to the Babylonians. The word Lucifer (which is often confused with Satan) means light-bringer and refers to Venus in her morning star phase. The ancients said the first few days of her Lucifer phase was a particularly dangerous time. People born with Venus as a morning star are said to rush headlong into love affairs and are very passionate. Venus as an evening star is has more of the receptive, traditional meaning.

You might also be interested  in this earlier article I wrote about the two sides of Venus, and in this article about Lucifer as Venus, the Light Bringer.

I became curious about the significance of 40 days and 40 nights, because before Jesus was tempted in the wilderness for this length of time rain fell on Noah for 40 days and 40 nights.  Moses fasted for 40 days and 40 nights before he was given the Commandments. Jesus remained on the earth for 40 days and 40 nights after the crucifixion.  And Buddha is said to have fasted and meditated for 40 days and 40 nights before reaching Samadhi.  These 40-day periods seem to relate to periods […]

Happy Yule and Christmas to my dear readers!

Father Winter

A portion of this article was originally posted in 2011. Anyone who has read this blog for more than five minutes will know that I am rather skeptical not only of Christianity but of any organized religion.  Still, I love the Christmas season, with its pagan-derived trappings of pine trees decorated with colorful balls and lights, songs of celebration, and the sharing of food and sweets with family and friends.  After all, the week of the Winter Solstice has been celebrated for thousands of years as Yule.  And even if it’s only for a week, it’s lovely to hear people of all religions talk about peace on earth and goodwill to men.

The timing of the celebration of the birth of the Christ on December 25th likely comes from the pre-Christian Roman holiday Sol Invictus celebrating the invincible Sun and the patron saint of Rome and her soldiers which was established in 274 ce.  Christianity was established  as the official religion in Rome in the mid 300s.

Around this time of year people always ask about the astrological meaning of the Star of Bethlehem, and an MSNBC article presents a compelling case for the actual birthdate of Jesus based upon the astronomical Star of Bethlehem:
Historical records and modern-day computer simulations indicate that there was a rare series of planetary groupings, also known as conjunctions, during the years 3 B.C. and 2 B.C.
The show started on the morning of June 12 in 3 B.C., when Venus could be sighted very close to Saturn in the eastern sky. Then there was a spectacular pairing of Venus and Jupiter on Aug. 12 in the constellation Leo, which ancient astrologers associated with the destiny of the Jews.
Between September of 3 B.C. […]
