Pluto square Eris update and a look into the future

art by Emily Balivet

Today (August 27, 2021) is the third exact 90 degree aspect (square) between Pluto, planet of creative destruction, and the new planet Eris, planet of discord.  In Rome Eris was called Discordia – she is the goddess who, when not invited to a wedding, began the Trojan War by throwing a golden apple marked “for the fairest” into a circle of goddesses, beginning a dispute that threw Greece into turmoil for ten years.  (Read more about the mythology of Eris here.)  In my research, the influence of the planet Eris appears to coincide with small, seemingly minor, events which create great chaos and disrupt the status quo.

This cycle of the Pluto/Eris square began in January of 2020, and is affecting the US chart rather intensely.  I don’t have to remind you how crazy the election process was in 2020, and how that craziness has continued into 2021.   The second phase of the exact alignment occurred in June 2020 along with all of the other intense planetary energies: a stellium in Capricorn that lasted for weeks, all planets retrograde, etc.   For much of the summer of 2020 the stellium in Capricorn (including Saturn, Pluto and Mars) formed a square to Eris as well.  Talk about discord!  The symbolism of Eris as the goddess who became angry when she didn’t receive a wedding invitation and retaliated by starting the Trojan War is eerily reflected in the events occurring in US politics over the past few years, as well as other events around the globe including the takeover of Afghanistan after 20 years of American efforts.

The Covid-19 virus itself seems to embody the discordant nature […]

12.19.20. Jupiter enters Aquarius, 2020-2021

art by Lily Seidel

Jupiter enters Aquarius on December 19, 2020 for the first time since January of 2009 and after a year of a stellium in Capricorn, the sign of hardship and mastery of the material world, astrologically-minded folk are celebrating. After all, Jupiter is said to be in its fall in Capricorn where the natural buoyancy and optimism of Jupiter must be compressed into the practical goals and strategies of Capricorn.  In the air sign of Aquarius, Jupiter’s boundless enthusiasm and positivity is more likely to enjoy free reign.

Jupiter and Saturn are considered “social” planets – unlike Mercury, Venus and Mars which deal primarily with the personality and the lens through which we see the world, Jupiter and Saturn describe the way we interact with the world around us.  Jupiter is expansive and reveals the ways in which we develop our philosophies about life through exploring shared traditions and ideas – it helps us to reach beyond the limits of our own ideas to keep learning and growing.  Jupiter also shows what we need in order to feel abundant and prosperous and what we might need to do in order to achieve this. Saturn, on the other hand, is restrictive and shows where we feel insecure or not good enough and where we may experience hardships so that we can become stronger through endurance, and more successful in the material world through hard work and discipline.

As Jupiter traverses the signs of the zodiac (approximately once a year), it helps us to open the doorways symbolized by those signs.  As Jupiter moved through Capricorn between December 2019 and December 20, it was conjunct Saturn, Capricorn’s ruler, for much of the year and […]

Hi everybody, welcome back to my channel. My name is Lynn Hayes and in today’s video we’ll be talking about the astrology for the week of November 30 2020. This video will include some talk about the upcoming eclipse season, which I feel is going to be very significant – it’s going to lead us into the conjunction between Jupiter and Saturn and Aquarius, which is going to come up around the time of the winter solstice.

Now, just to catch you up on some things from last week, we had Neptune turning directed, had been retrograde for the last six months or so.  Neptune is pretty stationary in the sky, it hasn’t moved much for at least the last couple of months, and it will be fairly stationary for the next month or so as it starts to pick up speed. Neptune, remember is the planet of imagination and creativity and spirituality, it helps us to break out of any kind of rut that we find ourselves in by Neptune can also create some illusion and confusion. And right now Neptune is in a […]

The Taurus New Moon April 22, 2020 offers a hint of what’s to come next year

The New Moon in Taurus arrives on April 22 at 22:25 Eastern time, and early in the morning April 23rd in Europe. Moon in Taurus is an opportunity to find your grounding space, to connect with the earth and the pleasures that are available to humans in a physical body.  In the midst of the stress of our current times, the Taurus New Moon can offer a welcome respite to the worry and anxiety that we find all around us.  New Moons are usually excellent times to begin new projects; in Taurus these new projects will want to satisfy the Taurean longing for beauty in life as well as in possessions and property. The Taurus New Moon centers our focus on abundance and prosperity – fertility and fecundity are emphasized now.  Fortunately, Taurus instills a desire to bloom where we are planted which is helpful since we can’t go anywhere right now!

The New Moon chart includes a conjunction of both the Sun and Moon to Uranus, the transformational outer planet which inspires us to break out of our ruts and routines and create innovation and independence from the past.  The peaceful solidity of Taurus isn’t that comfortable with the electrical insistence on Uranus for a radical change that turns our lives upside down, so this could be a bit problematic as we learn how to find comfort in stillness (Taurus) while facing the need for a radical shift in our lives (Uranus).  Making this more difficult is a challenging square from Saturn, planet of restriction and planning.  Uranus is sending out a call for a radical change, but Saturn is tying us up in lockdown and requiring that we build new structures before we explode […]
