The compelling power of the Aries Full Moon October 5, 2017

Aries Full Moon Image from EarthSky.org

This Aries Full Moon takes the power of Mars to energize us and stir us to action, and amplifies it into a new dimension.  Mars is locked in a dramatic tango with Venus right now, and Mars is the ruler of this Full Moon which promotes it to great importance.  This means that we are more self-oriented and potentially more reactive than we might normally be, and this can result in greater interpersonal conflict.

This dance is embedded in the chart of the Aries Full Moon – another symbol of polarities since the Sun is in Libra, the sign of balance, and the Moon is in Aries, Libra’s opposite polarity. Aries is self-oriented where Libra attempts to balance self vs other – finding that sweet spot in the middle is the message of the Aries Full Moon on October 5th.

Our relationship with others are a mirror of our own internal conflicts, and the attempt to find a harmonious counterbalance, both in our own emotional natures and personalities and in our relationships, is intensified and made more urgent with.  Anything artificial or illusory falls away under this Full Moon and we are given the choice to create transformation or remain in ignorance.

Fortunately, we are blessed at this time with mental clarity and an enhanced ability to communicate our personal wisdom, and a grounding influence can help to provide stability but may also set up road blocks that need to be worked through. In the midst of this, there is a tremendous push for personal liberation and creating the kind of change that will facilitate and encourage a release from old patterns that bind us.

Planetary news this week!

“Planets” from Deviant Art

Dear friends, I am hoping to get back on a more or less regular writing schedule and as always appreciate your patience.  I’m also going to try something new, which is to keep the planetary information simple but include the astrological details at the bottom of the post.  I hope that this will help those of you new to astrology, which is most of my readership, while still giving the experts the information they need.

On to today’s news!   First of all, Pluto is shining a laser beam right now that will continue throughout the months of September and October.  Pluto is the Lord of the Underworld of the Psyche, and when its influence is powerful as it is right now there is a tendency for the dark underbelly of the collective psyche to be revealed.

If like me Pluto is activating your personal chart, you are likely to experience a higher level of intensity and confrontation than usual as Pluto works to strip away our false selves to reveal the Truth that lies beneath over the next few months.

The other big piece of astrological news is the deconstruction and pressure for radical change that is the dance between Jupiter and Uranus.  Both of these planets seek change and liberation, but in this cycle they are in a challenging aspect to each other which can be somewhat destabilizing as part of us yearns for change, yet change is occurring in a manner that is unexpected and perhaps undesired.

Under this influence change can be uncomfortable for many of us.  It’s not unusual to be unhappy with an aspect of our lives yet be unwilling or afraid to create […]

“When will we see the end of these difficult planetary cycles?”

planetary cyclesSomeone left this question in a comment recently, and I quite frequently hear this question from clients.  It’s a difficult one to answer because there are so many layers of planetary cycles that begin on the personal level with your own astrological chart that is affected by planetary movements.  Then we have the astrological chart of the nation in which we live that undergoes planetary cycles which affect the political landscape.  Expanding even further, we have the dances of the slower moving planets including Saturn, Chiron, and the outer planets Uranus, Neptune and Pluto.

Not everyone is affected by planetary cycles in the same way – human behavior is difficult to predict since it depends so much on the choices that we make.  Still, this Uranus/Pluto cycle that we have been going through since 2010 is one of the most difficult because of the degree of change that it brings about.

While the Uranus/Pluto cycle is technically over, it is being kept alive this year by Jupiter which is bouncing back and forth between squares to Pluto and oppositions to Uranus, “translating” and re-connecting the Uranus/Pluto conflict and maintaining a level of tension that requires adaptation and synthesis.

Still, there are always harmonious cycles flowing through the most challenging of planetary alignments that provide support and encouragement.  A harmonious trine from  Saturn (discipline and focus) and Uranus (innovation and radical change) could help to facilitate the changes and new patterns that are necessary in order to recreate our world in the new ways that are required for the future.  Under this aspect the structures that we build under Saturn are energized by the ingenuity of Uranus.  This aspect tends to make the idea of change seem more exciting than frightening […]

Aquarius New Moon January 27: Time for a new perspective

Aquarius new moon 2017The New Moon in Aquarius occurs on January 27th. Aquarius is the sign of social justice and rational thinking – it inspires us towards independence and innovation.  At the New Moon the Sun and Moon align to merge the conscious Self as represented by the Sun with the instinctive emotional patterns of the Moon.  This linking up of these two luminaries is the beginning of the lunar cycle – the Sun solarizes the Moon and infuses it with a new energy, symbolically offering us a new beginning ourselves. This is a time of new beginnings and a time when our new intentions can take hold, helping us to start anew.

Aquarius is an air sign – detached and concerned with matters of the intellect, Aquarius encourages us to see the world in a reasonable and rational way.  This perspective helps us towards a clearer vision of the world and a need for social justice and equality.  Aquarius is ruled by the planet Uranus – the lord of radical change and innovation, and an opposition (aspect of tension) between abundant Jupiter and Uranus is embedded in the chart and encourages greater expansion (Jupiter) of our ideals (Uranus) and new ways of looking at the world and new patterns of living.  A harmonious trine from Saturn (strong foundation) enables us to construct these new patterns in ways that will enhance our lives.

The airiness of the New Moon combines with the fact that four planets are in Pisces which is a very watery sign – this helps us to integrate the intellectual brilliance of the Aquarian influence with the sensitivity and imagination of Pisces.

Creativity abounds under this New Moon, but a challenging Venus aspect […]

Cancerian Full Moon, January 12th: Balance, stability and Magic

Cancer Full Moon January 2017As we approach the Cancer Full Moon on January 12th, a harmonious Mars cycle helps to energize us and shake off inertia.  We are inspired now for transformation and are likely to feel more alive and aware which will help us to find greater balance during this lunar time where much goes on beyond the superficial level of daily consciousness.

Full Moons always include some tension since the Sun in Capricorn with its focus on practicality and the ends justifying the means, is exactly opposite the Moon in Cancer, inspiring emotional sensitivity and connection to tribe, pulling us in both directions and requiring us to find a way to integrate the opposite signs.  Cancer is the Moon’s own sign which intensifies this lunar quality of shifting moods and instinctive reaction.

Creating even greater tension is an exact Grand Cross with Jupiter and Uranus as well as the Sun and Moon.  Grand Crosses carry a tremendous amount of power in the tension that they bring to bear. They aren’t always comfortable, but this will be a powerful Full Moon that is full of magic. Any hidden restlessness or longing for freedom will erupt under this Full Moon which demands that we find balance between the emotional pull of our inner world (Cancer) and our need to find stability in the outer world (Capricorn).

This Full Moon asks us to open up our hearts to love and magic while keeping our feet firmly planted in the structural reality of the world around us, and to prioritize stability while exploring the nether regions of the psyche without becoming lost in either dimension.

The effect of a Full Moon lasts for about three days, and then we have a couple of stressful Mars […]
