Leo New Moon

Astrological news this week: Leo New Moon and Mars/Uranus packs a punch

Astrological update for the week of July 24-31, 2022

Lack of the air element. Currently there is an astrological imbalance in the skies with a lack of planets in air signs. The only planet in air is Saturn in Aquarius, and Saturn shows where there is a detriment that needs to be worked on. Air is the element of objectivity and clarity, and without the influence of the air element we can become hyper-energized without any real purpose (fire), stuck in patterns and overly rooted in the past (earth), and lost in feelings without perspective (water).

Leo New Moon. I mention this because the Leo New Moon on July 28th will offer a surge of purifying fire, perhaps with a cascade of enthusiasm that will be amplified by the conjunction of Mars to Uranus. But without the vision of air, we may find ourselves spinning our wheels with no apparent purpose. This week it might be useful to have a plan.

This Leo New Moon is loosely tied into a beautiful trine to Jupiter, currently in Aries where we seek adventure and the courage to conquer all of our fears and blaze a new path. It also conjoins Ceres, the planet that nourishes our very relationship between body and soul, infusing us, potentially, with a new way to really love ourselves. Leo has a big heart and is generous of spirit, it is ruled by the Sun and helps to feed a positive image of Self.  This is a wonderful time to look at ourselves with kinder eyes, to appreciate our skills and talents and save the criticism for another time.

Jupiter turns retrograde on the 28th. We are fully in retrograde season […]

The sparkle of this week’s Leo New Moon

artist unknown?

by Lynn Hayes   The next few days offer an opportunity for the heart to open as the Sun and Moon align in Leo, a kiss of magic to open up the heart.  The energy of Leo encourages us to return to the simplicity of childhood – to witness and find joy in the simplest things and share that joy with others.

While the Sun represents the physical heart, the Moon represents the emotional heart.  How we protect ourselves, how we express our feelings, the level of comfort we feel with the emotions that flow through us every moment of the day – all of these things live in the realm of the Moon.  In Leo, the Moon becomes more dramatic and more easily able to find expression for the inner language of the soul and at the New Moon on August 8th at 9:50 am EDT/1:50 pm UTC the two combine for a burst of Leo sparkle.  Mercury, planet of the mind, is also in Leo right now and trines the new planet Eris – this feels a bit to me like the reasoning out of a Rubik’s cube in which the small details lead to a big transformation.

The Sun is the most powerful force in our planetary system, and the Sun is in its own sign of Leo where it has the strongest force of radiance, illuminating the darkness and shining light into the unconscious.  This New Moon is tightly squared (90 degree aspect) by Uranus, the planet of radical personal independence to force a decision or course of action that will set free something which has been repressed or stifled.  Leo is a fixed sign and like all fixed signs, it doesn’t accept change or […]

Planetary news this week: August 2, 2021

Astrological forecast by Lynn Hayes

Major events

This week we have the conjunction of the Sun to Mercury, one of the linchpins of the Mercury retrograde cycle (the exact conjunction was August 1st but it lingers into the beginning of the week).  The Sun conjoins Mercury, planet of the mind, once as Mercury travels direct, and then again at the midpoint of the retrograde cycle.  I think of the Sun as the Illuminator, shining a light into the darkness, and the Sun/Mercury combinations bring the potential for realizations and a new kind of intelligence.

That is particularly important this week because the Sun and Mercury also activate the challenging square from Saturn (control and rules) to Uranus (radical change) which is the main story of 2021.  That effect lingers throughout the week, and then the Leo New Moon on August 8th acts as an additional trigger.

What this means is that any structures we have built for ourselves which are eroding and will not fit into the energy patterns of the new world will begin to fall away as new patterns and structures are created.  If we are personalities which embrace change this may come easily and bring exciting new influences.  If we tend to hold onto the past, though, this is likely a difficult time. On a global level the pressure for change is enormous, and this is a good time to remember the Serenity Prayer and think about what we can and cannot change.

Dates and times are given in EDT and UTC, please adjust for your time zone.

Monday August 2nd

Yesterday we had an opposition from Mercury to Saturn which may have created some negative thinking.  Saturn isn’t inherently negative, but it does urge us to face up to reality and […]

The meaning of this month’s New Moon in Leo, August 18 2020

The New Moon takes place August 18th, at 10:41 pm Eastern time when the Sun and the Moon converge at 26 degrees Leo.  The symbolism of the New Moon has always struck me, since the actual New Moon occurs not when the first crescent makes its appearance, but when the Moon is invisible in the sky, obscured by the light of the Sun.  When the Moon is dark, we are able to see the stars at night, and the creatures of the night make themselves known. The dark Moon is the Balsamic Moon – a time of endings, letting go, and releasing the old before the Moon is new again at the conjunction to the Sun.

Each new lunar cycle offers an opportunity to begin anew, and we have left the season of Cancer, ruled by the Moon and now find ourselves in Leo, the realm of the Sun.  The Leo New Moon is a symbolic time to turn our attention to the Self, as Leo’s purpose is to find the highest expression of our best Selves.  Not the small self, with its petty needs and wants, but the larger Self which has much to share with the world.  Leo is also the sign of royalty, encouraging us to fulfill the role that was served by kings and queens in ancient times of bridging the gap between humanity and the gods.  There is a nobility to Leo and a deep inner sense of importance that walks a tightrope between the healthy ego and attachment to the gratification of the ego.  Leo also suggests the beauty of the divine child.

This New Moon in Leo includes a tight conjunction to Mercury (planet of the mind), something traditional astrologers call “combust.”  This […]

Hey everybody, my name is Lynn Hayes. Welcome back to my channel. If you’re new here, I post a new video every Monday about the astrological forces affecting us in the coming week and helping you to navigate them. In today’s video, we’ll be talking about the Leo New Moon, which is on Tuesday, August 18, and how we can get the most out of this fresh new start, as well as other astrological factors that will affect your week.

The New Moon in Leo is August 18. And in the Eastern Time Zone, it begins at 10:41pm. Please adjust for your own locality. When the Moon is set to be new. It’s the fusion of the Sun the solar conscious attention to the outer world and the Moon, which is the instinctive lunar reaction to the inner world. With the Sun we look out and with the Moon we look in – when those two energies are fused it’s a brilliant new start to a new lunar cycle.

The day before the New Moon is the dark and waning phase. That’s when we’re letting go of things that no longer serve us in preparation for the new phase. It’s a good time to end anything that’s not working for you anymore. It’s also a good time to be turning inwards and listening to the inner voice, the […]
