Astrological news this week: Autumn equinox brings a turning point, and a New Moon

Astrological update for the week of September 19-26, 2022

art by Hayley Roberts

September is one of those months when the Sun moves into a cardinal sign and marks the beginning of a new season. Here in the northern hemisphere we are moving into fall, and my friends Down Under are transitioning to Spring. Either way, there is a whiff of change in the air.

Fall Equinox September 22, 9:03 pm. This month the Equinox marks the point of equality between darkness and light as we move from the mutability of Virgo into the cardinal point of Libra. Each of the cardinal signs marks a solstice or equinox, the turning points in the wheel of the year and the budding of promise as we enter a new season. In the Aries season at the March equinox we are more focused on initiating something new and adventurous, but here in Libra season in September we begin to integrate into our surroundings and learn to find greater balance and harmony. In the spring we plant the harvest, and in the fall we share it.

The astrological chart for the Equinoxes and Solstices are sometimes used to predict the energies of the coming season, and this Equinox chart is an interesting one. The Equinox Sun exactly conjoins Mercury, suggesting that there will be some fast moving events to shift us into the next phase. Jupiter is involved in this dynamic too, expanding the possibilities and opening doorways to new experiences.

The Equinox chart for Washington D.C. has Pluto tightly conjunct the Midheaven, the place of government and rulership, which does not seem ideal for a pre-election season in a nation that is torn by political strife. But that is nothing […]

The power of this Libra New Moon for change and healing

The easy astrological times are not always the times when change and evolution can take place – sometimes these changes take an astrological punch, and that is what we have under this Libra New Moon. Libra is considered to be a somewhat “soft” sign – often polite and tactful, Libra urges us to relate to others, find ways to compromise, and balance opposing viewpoints with ease.  Libra is ruled by Venus after all, and Venus is the Goddess of Love and Beauty…or so we like to think.

The Venus archetype comes to us from a long line of powerful female goddesses, beginning back in Sumeria with Inanna and in Babylonia with Ishtar.  These are goddesses of love and war; they exemplify feminine power of transformation and the ability to go naked into the Underworld and returned transformed.  This is a good archetype for the Libra New Moon of October 6, 2021.

This New Moon features four planets in Libra: we have the Sun and Moon of course, but also Mars and Mercury.  A new beginning is required and there will be compromise and accommodation with so much Libra, but with Mars acting as a major presence, there will also be a need to fight for what we know to be true and for what is important. This is a time for a new beginning: the new lunar cycle has just begun and the sky is dark with pregnant anticipation. Now is the time to set the intentions for the New Moon. Where in our lives are our relationships out of balance? How can we bring more love into our life, more softness and beauty? We often think that in order to feel loved we must have a partner, but anyone […]

Astrological forecast for the week of October 4, 2021: Libra New Moon and stationary planets

art by Myles Pinkney

This week we are at peak retrograde, with six planets retrograde including Mercury.  Expect and prepare for communication glitches under the Mercury retrograde which is at its midpoint this week.  Pluto turns direct on October 6th to be followed by Jupiter and Saturn, and all three planets are stationary throughout October. This is not a good time to try to “push the river” as the saying goes – instead we will benefit from finding a point of stillness in which we can hear the inner voice of guidance and from which we can release the stress of unmet expectations and hidden resentments.  That is especially true during the first half of this week with Mercury (mind and communication), still moving slowly after its retrograde turn last week, in a stressful square to Pluto (intensity and power issues).

These energies are all a part of this week’s Libra New Moon on October 6th which also includes a stellium in Libra with Mars and Mercury along with the Sun and Moon.  This New Moon packs a powerful punch with the Libra stellium opposite the Moon and Chiron.  Libra is the sign of relating, but it also is the sign which teaches balance and integration, and encourages us to find harmony at the midpoint of stressors. The planets have chosen two different ways to deliver that message (three stationary planets is the other) and it’s a good one!!

Here’s the forecast for the week. Dates and times are given in EDT, please adjust for your locality.

Monday October 4.  A harmonious trine from the Libra Sun to Ceres in Gemini helps us to find the mental balance we need in order to achieve the integration this week […]

October 2020’s Libra New SuperMoon is a powerhouse of planetary energies!

Libra New Moonphoto by Stefano Uknar

Just like everything else in 2020 so far, this week’s New Moon in Libra on October 16 2020 has surprises in store for us.  First of all, it’s a SuperMoon™ (coined by astrologer Richard Nolle) which means that the Moon is nearing its closest proximity to the Earth at the time the Moon and Sun align from our perspective for the New Moon.  When a Full Moon is a SuperMoon, we see it larger than life in the sky, but of course a New Moon is invisible – it’s the dark Moon that marks the beginning of a new lunar cycle.  Nevertheless, the SuperMoon is still Super, whether we can see it in the sky or not, and its effect is more potent and more lasting than an ordinary lunation.

Each month we are initiated into the mysteries of the signs in zodiacal order, and following the Virgo mystery that was illuminated by the New Moon on September 17th, we find ourselves being opened to the Libran quest for beauty, harmony, and a balance in our relationships with others.  The Libra New Moon urges us to find the balance point – to avoid extremes, to discover the truth that lies somewhere in the middle. When the Moon is in the sign ruled by Venus, there is a strong desire to open the heart and find connections that are pleasing and beneficial.

Speaking of Venus, she is in the sign of Virgo where we tend to be less interested in romance and candlelight and more interested in the functionality of our interpersonal relationships.  Because Venus rules the New Moon and is in Virgo, we must take into account […]

Action packed forecast for the week of October 12 2020, including New Moon and Mercury retrograde

There’s a lot to talk about this week, with Mars still wreaking havoc, this time in partnership with the Libra New Moon, and the retrograde turn of Mercury.  In this video I dive deep into these matters and give you the astrological details for the week to help you with your planning.  Thanks to those of you who have written me that you enjoy the videos!  I know a lot of us prefer to read, but the videos do include charts and visuals to help clarify what’s happening so give them a try. And sometimes my pets make an appearance as my cat Tristan did this week.  Of course, the transcript is below.

Hey everybody, my name is Lynn Hayes. Welcome back to my channel. If you’re new here every week I give you all the astrological information you need to have a great week. In today’s video, we’re going to be talking about the astrology for the week of October 12 through the 19th. We’re going to cover the big important astrological influences that are coming up this week, and then we’ll focus on the daily influences to help you with your planning.

The first thing I want to talk about is the harmonious sextile from Jupiter to Neptune. This began back in February. It’s a three phase cycle as some of them are, and it began just after Saturn and Pluto converged in the sky. So we had this very intense, negative, fearful, challenging aspect in January, with Saturn and Pluto. And that was quickly followed with the first phase of the sextile from Jupiter […]
