Solar Eclipse at the New Moon October 23 2014

Although the New Moon tomorrow is an eclipse at the first degree of Scorpio, there is still an intensely Libran influence during this last day leading into the eclipse.  Four planets (including the luminaries, the Sun and the Moon)  are in Libra, and the Sun is aligned with Venus, Libra’s ruler.  Libra and Venus possess a strong but delicate energy – inspiring relationship and harmony, yet requiring a peace and beauty.

This sensitivity will have to give way to tougher stuff when the Moon and Sun conjoin at the New Moon in the more intensely demanding sign of Scorpio on October 23rd at 5:57 pm Eastern time.  Scorpio says “forget your dainty tea parties and your loving relationships – strip yourself of your polite veneer and find your true passion.”   Scorpio has no patience for the superficial and encourages us to walk bravely into the fire of our dreams where any hesitation and fears can be burned away, leaving us to be reborn in the ashes of the fire – a cathartic emergence into our true selves and our true empowerment.

The zero degree point of Scorpio marks the entry into the period between the autumn equinox and the winter solstice that culminates at 15 Scorpio.  This is the time when the veil grows thin and communication between the worlds of the dead and the living may occur. We are highly connected now to the interplay of dimensions and intuitive abilities are at their peak.

Venus continues to play an important role, meeting the Sun and Moon in Scorpio and preparing us to dive into the depths of the dark pool.  There is tremendous potential now for our […]

What’s got into Serena Williams?

Tennis legend Serena Williams (9/26/1981, unverified time of 8:26 pm in Saginaw, MI) gave a referee a piece of her mind on Saturday, costing her the game and the match.  This sudden outburst is considered out of character for Serena, who rarely makes the news outside of the sports section.

This can be explained partially by her astrology chart and the fact that Serena has five planets in the peaceloving sign of Libra:  the Sun, Saturn, Jupiter, Pluto and Mercury.  But she’s not all peace, love and harmony – that Pluto/Mercury conjunction gives her plenty of verbal (Mercury) power (Pluto) and I suspect that she’s not afraid to use it.  Her Virgo Moon gives her a natural reticence and modesty, but this conflicts with a powerful Mars in the competitive sign of Leo, revealing her intense drive (Mars) to win (Leo). Still, that Virgo Moon is typically respectful of rules and dislikes rocking the boat and ESPN sports analyst Mary Carillo said, “This was an aberration, I’ve never seen her like that.”

It’s not surprising that Serena is touchier these days than usual.  Transiting Chiron, the planet that brings up all of our old wounds and fears, is making a square to Chiron in her natal chart. This is a challenging planetary event that removes the protective band-aids that we use to cover up our insecurities and old wounds of the psyche.

She has also had a major transit of Pluto making a square to her Sun.  Although that cycle is taking a breather, she has likely been going through some rather intense changes in her professional and personal life.

On the day of the incident, transiting Mars was forming an exact square to Saturn in Serena’s chart.  Saturn often […]

The Compassion of George Bush

and an astrological update of the US President

President Bush recently showed his compassionate nature when he commuted the prison sentence of his loyal soldier Scooter Libby because he felt the sentence was “excessive.” He demonstrated a great deal of sympathy for the man who merely lied to protect him and decried the suffering of his wife and children. Still, I was reminded that this was the same man who, while governor, was the overseer over more executions than any other governors in recent US history. Bush explained in his autobiography that it was not his job to “replace the verdict of a jury unless there are new facts or evidence of which a jury was unaware, or evidence that the trial was somehow unfair” and therefore it was not up to him to pardon those that were sentenced to death. This is the same man that observed the wreckage of New Orleans from 5,000 feet and seems to care little for the hundreds of thousands of Iraqis killed in his war of liberation.

The President was born under the sign of Cancer, and as such he has a tremendous compassion and desire to nurture those that he loves. Cancer is a tribal sign – loyalty to one’s own is paramount. Extremely sensitive to attack from outside, Cancer will fearlessly protect members of the tribe from that outside influence. You can read more about President Bush’s chart in this earlier article and this update, but it is significant that a stellium of four planets in Libra (Neptune, Chiron, Moon and Jupiter) all square this Cancer Sun, creating challenge in his ability to accomplish that tribal protection.

The square from Jupiter (King of […]
