Astrological update for the week of April 4-11, 2022

Before I talk about the hard stuff I’d like to add a preface: These potentially challenging cycles are fast moving, lasting only a few days, and interpersed are lovely periods of harmony and camaraderie that will help to relieve the stress of what I’m about to reveal. 😃

Mars conjunct Saturn April 4. The week begins with a challenging conjunction from Mars to Saturn in the Saturn-ruled sign of Aquarius. The idea that Mars and Saturn are malefic in their nature is something that I am always arguing against.  If it weren’t for Mars we wouldn’t get out of bed in the morning.  Mars is the energy that motivates and excites us – it provides inspiration as well as desire.  When that inspiration and desire is thwarted, Mars can become angry and that can easily escalate into the rage that Mars is known for.  Saturn provides a container and structure for our lives.  It inspires us to make commitments and to set goals for the future.  Saturn’s lessons become difficult when we attempt to ignore the need for rules and structure – then we may get the proverbial bonk on the head from the Celestial Taskmaster.

This conjunction is intensified because it squares the Taurus Moon which may cause some disruption to our equilibrium. The conjunction is also in a strong square aspect to the Lunar Nodes of Fate, suggesting that there may be a reckoning from the past that must be confronted before the path to the future is clear. With any planetary aspect to the nodes there may not be a specific event that occurs but it’s a good idea to keep our eyes open in the early part […]

The deceptive harmony of the Libra Full Moon and Mercury retrograde

Libra full moonThe March 31st Full Moon is in Libra, the sign of balance, so you might think of it as a peaceful and harmonious time, full of the beauty and love that Libra is known for.  But this Full Moon is opposite not only the Aries Sun, but also a retrograde Mercury in Aries which is not all that happy at being muzzled by the retrograde.

In Aries Mercury prefers to take action – to go forward always, without the necessity of having to retrace its steps or even worse, admit that something was wrong and needs to be redone. So Aries Mercury retrogrades can be quite a challenge.  In this Full Moon, Mercury and the Sun are aligned as one opposed to the Moon which  means that the Aries energy will have a tendency to overcome the mild nature of the Libra Moon which after all wants nothing more than a lovely day enjoying a cup of tea with a good friend.

Complicating matters a bit more is an alignment of Saturn (restriction and judgment) and Mars (assertive action and desire).  A pairing of Saturn and Mars has the effect of driving with the brakes on: Mars says “let’s go” and Saturn says “not yet.”  It is helpful that both Mars and Saturn are in Capricorn, the sign that is ruled by Saturn, so at least they can both agree on a goal to achieve and the pair will help us to find the focus we need to achieve (Saturn) that which we desire (Mars).  However, Mars and Saturn are locked in a challenging square to both the Sun and Moon which has the potential to create some dissonance in our world for a few days.

Full Moons […]

Mars and Saturn in Libra

Mars conjunct Saturn in Libra Illustration by Daniel Marsula

For the next week or so we will be living with Mars and Saturn conjunct in Libra.

Libra is normally a lovely sign – it is concerned with fairness, equality, peace and harmony, beauty and an aesthetically pleasing environment.  But when Mars gets into Libra it likes to stir things up.  Mars is said to be in its detriment in Libra, and in Libra it tends to go underground.  Rather than be directly obnoxious, as Mars prefers to be, Mars in Libra covers its irritation and anger with a veneer of Libran polish so that it’s hard to really see the truth that lies beneath.

Here we have Saturn overseeing this process, making sure that we must face the cold hard reality of the truth, even though Mars in Libra is doing its best to obscure those facts.  Mars and Saturn working together are described as driving with the brakes on.  Mars wants to create action, and Saturn creates its famous delays.  Both are in Libra where action is difficult because all options are equally attractive.

However, Jupiter and Uranus are opposing Mars and Saturn and stirring the pot.  We want to act – we are almost desperate for some kind of change to take place (Jupiter/Uranus opposing Mars).  But Saturn is the enforcer right now.  If you are sending delays and blockages, sit back and wait until […]
