Planetary news this week: The creative power of Mind with Mercury

Astrological update for the week of March 27 – April 3, 2023

The importance of Mind in our lives. What we think of as “mind” – the purview of Mercury, is not the same as the brain. The brain is the physical organ which facilitates the workings of the mental functions, but the mind is driven by consciousness. How we perceive about the world and filter our experiences is driven by the mind, and can be explained astrologically by Mercury placements in the natal chart.

The power of the mind to create and imagine is well understood, but the mind (Mercury) often becomes tangled with emotions (Moon), self-indulgence (Venus), unmet needs (Mars), secret yearnings (Jupiter), and self-doubt (Saturn). When the mind is clear of distractions and these tangles which inhibit the activation of our thoughts are quiet, magic can happen.

This week there are no major planetary interactions to dominate the airwaves, and the planetary activity is focused mainly on the mental realm. How easily can we focus our thoughts and strategize our way to a goal? What distractions keep us from the experiences we crave? These are topics which might come up this week under this emphasis of Mercury alignments.

Here’s what else you need to know this week (Dates and times are for the Eastern time zone, here is a time zone converter to adjust for your locality.)

Monday March 27. As if to emphasize the point, we begin the week with the Moon in Mercury-ruled Gemini, and a strong Mercury/Jupiter aspect building throughout Monday to peak just after midnight. The focus right now is on communication, language, learning, and understanding. There is an opportunity to learn from our experiences as every aspect of our […]

Astrological news this week: Stelliums, Virgo Full Moon, and Equinox news

Planetary forecast for the week of March 14-21, 2022.

art by Gwen Davies

You might have read some different articles this week about the intensity of the planets this week because the planets are all in a bunch. Astrological news is just like any other kind of media – we thrive on drama to bring in the eyeballs. But it seems to me that this week’s astrology is not nearly as dramatic as it was a few weeks ago when the Moon was in Capricorn, Aquarius and Pisces and the planets were in even a tighter window of the zodiac wheel.

As this chart shows, on February 27th all of the visible planetary bodies (plus Neptune and Pluto) were within 60 degrees of the chart wheel which is very tight indeed. Marc Edmund Jones named this chart pattern the “bundle” when describing the natal chart – an intense focus which can lack perspective. This tight bundle intensified around February 26th with the Moon in Capricorn entering the bundle, and began to ease when the Moon moved into Aries on March 3rd and departed from the crowded area of the zodiac.

In any case, don’t be alarmed when you read articles like this, things are difficult enough in the world without adding unnecessary panic and anxiety to the mix.

Virgo Full Moon: The Moon will be full in Virgo on March 18, 2022 at 3:17 am EDT, just before the equinox.  Every Full Moon is full of gifts and blessings, and at this time when we have the Sun in a stellium in Pisces encouraging dreams and inspiration but also confusion, the Virgo Moon helps us to ground into our bodies […]

3.4.21 Messages from the higher mind with Mercury conjunct Jupiter in Aquarius

artist unknown

Today we have the planet of the lower mind working in tandem with planet of higher meaning and philosophy, both in the sign that elevates our thinking and opens up new ideas and radical departures from the way things have always been done.  That makes this an excellent day for a life review or journal exercise: What is working in our lives that we need more of, and what do we want to change?  Can we imagine a brighter future, and if so what must we do in order to facilitate this change?

In the early part of the day the Moon is finishing its passage through Scorpio which can feel a bit dark and intense but it may become easier to access our emotions and our passions for this exercise.  When the Moon moves into Sagittarius at 5:42 pm EST/10:42 GMT, a layer of optimism may kick in and facilitate this imagining of a bright and purposeful future.
