Mercury in Aries

Astrological news this week: Surprising adjustments with Mars and Venus square Uranus

Astrological update for the week of March 21, 2022

If you can identify this artist please let me know in the comments! As the week begins the energies of last week’s Equinox are still winding down, forcing adjustments in expectations and laying the groundwork for a new season. The March Equinox occurs when the Sun enters Aries in the tropical system – the first day of spring in the northern hemisphere and the beginning of the zodiacal wheel. Aries is the sign of initiation, of blazing a new trail and forging ahead with courage and confidence, and there is a significant Uranus alignment in the chart of the Equinox.

Uranus is the planet that inspires us to break out of outmoded paradigms and ways of living which no longer fit the current reality, and this week Mars will form a challenging square to Uranus. Mars is in Aquarius right now where the primary motivator is innovation and change but also reason and intelligence, so the added influence of Uranus can help to break down barriers to progress. However, Uranus can inspire Mars to be somewhat reckless so it would be wise to exercise some caution.

Here is what you need to know for the week ahead. (Dates and times are for the Eastern time zone, please adjust for your own locality.)

Monday March 21.  The Moon is newly in Scorpio on Monday, intensifying feelings and evoking a sense of urgency where emotions are concerned. Fortunately a harmonious Mercury/Jupiter aspect culminates in the very early hours on Monday which helps us to find more emotional balance and general good vibes.  Mars builds all day towards a harmonious aspect to Chiron (sextile) to facilitate the flow of natural wisdom and positive energy.

4.5.21 – Supercharge your relationships with Venus and Mars!

art by Dolores Develde

A harmonious interaction between Venus in Aries and Mars in Gemini is building throughout the day today and will peak Tuesday morning.  Venus, planet of harmony and relating, is in Aries right now where she is more dynamic and forceful, encouraging us to speak our truth and own our own attitudes.  Aries is ruled by Mars, so the sextile from Venus in Aries to Mars is a double whammy of Martian energies!  Although Venus and Mars are not natural allies – one is sweet and soft (Venus) and the other is hard and aggressive (Mars) – when we can integrate these two forces we can get the most out of each of them.  That is the main influence today.

The Moon has just entered Aquarius and will be quite busy over the next few days, interacting with nearly every planet.  Today, though, we have a harmonious sextile from the Moon to Mercury in the early afternoon EDT.  Mercury, planet of the mind, is also in Aries and opinions are loud and potent.  The intellectual honesty of the Aquarius Moon will help to clarify our thinking this afternoon under this influence, which will help to better utilize all of this Aries energy.  Fire purifies and inspires, but it does take some focus to take advantage of its unique gifts.

The Taurus New Moon: Settling into the peace space

The New Moon on May 4th is in the sign of Taurus.  The symbol for Taurus is the bull – wise, placid but powerful, stable, slow to anger, the bull is a majestic symbol of peacefulness in the heart of strength.  Like the bull, under the influence of Taurus we seek experiences which will help us to find that sense of equanimity and comfort.  We nestle into cozy spaces and hunger for pleasure that will be truly satisfying.  No frankenfood will do under the Taurean influence, we must have fine wines and the best dark chocolates, food with pleasing colors and textures.  We wrap ourselves in natural fabrics and enjoy the scents of flowers.

The New Moon is, of course, the beginning of a new lunar cycle.  Over the past few months we’ve had a confusing retrograde period of Mercury, and an intense breakdown period of Saturn and Pluto which is just beginning to wane.   With the Taurus New Moon, we are finally able to connect more completely with the physical – settle into our bodies, walk barefoot on the earth, hug a tree, sit quietly and just experience the very fact that we are alive.

Not all of the planets are supportive of the slowing down and smelling the roses – we still have the mutual reception of Mercury in Aries, ruled by Mars, and Mars in Gemini, ruled by Mercury – firing up the engines of the brain and making it difficult to relax.  We still have a potentially challenging aspect (a T-square) involving Mercury (mind), Mars (action) and Jupiter (expansion) that demands action (Mars/Jupiter) yet blurs our sight to the point where we are unable to see clearly (Neptune).   But none of that matters right now […]

Astrological forecast for April 15th-30th 2019 including the Libra Full Moon

There’s a lot of planetary energies during this period, with three planetary bodies changing signs and two changing direction, as well as a Full Moon!  Read on for all of the details… (dates refer to the Eastern time zone)

Saturn and Pluto turn retrograde. Towards the end of April both Saturn and Pluto will turn retrograde, meaning their apparent motion as we observe the planets will appear to move backwards.  These planetary shifts from retrograde to direct motion mark shifts in direction of focus – the retrograde periods help us to look back into the past and see what is unfinished or what needs to be recreated in order to more fully serve us in the future. Then when a planet turns direct again we are able to make forward strides more effectively.  Saturn and Pluto are preparing for that retrograde turn, they are at a virtual standstill and their influence is more powerful – especially if these planets are hitting sensitive points in your own natal chart (between 18 and 25 degrees of Capricorn, Cancer, Libra and Aries).  Pluto turns retrograde on April 24th and Saturn turns retrograde on April 29th.

Saturn (tests and challenges) and Pluto (creative destruction) are at their closest point now until they collide in their official conjunction in January of 2020.  The combination of these two planets generally denotes a destructive force that can clear the path of any debris that is interfering with the natural movement of the Universe towards balance.  This has the potential to be a positive force, but it is also associated with contraction and challenge, especially now since both planets are in the contracting sign of Capricorn. They are aligned with the South Node of the past, denoting that […]

The deceptive harmony of the Libra Full Moon and Mercury retrograde

Libra full moonThe March 31st Full Moon is in Libra, the sign of balance, so you might think of it as a peaceful and harmonious time, full of the beauty and love that Libra is known for.  But this Full Moon is opposite not only the Aries Sun, but also a retrograde Mercury in Aries which is not all that happy at being muzzled by the retrograde.

In Aries Mercury prefers to take action – to go forward always, without the necessity of having to retrace its steps or even worse, admit that something was wrong and needs to be redone. So Aries Mercury retrogrades can be quite a challenge.  In this Full Moon, Mercury and the Sun are aligned as one opposed to the Moon which  means that the Aries energy will have a tendency to overcome the mild nature of the Libra Moon which after all wants nothing more than a lovely day enjoying a cup of tea with a good friend.

Complicating matters a bit more is an alignment of Saturn (restriction and judgment) and Mars (assertive action and desire).  A pairing of Saturn and Mars has the effect of driving with the brakes on: Mars says “let’s go” and Saturn says “not yet.”  It is helpful that both Mars and Saturn are in Capricorn, the sign that is ruled by Saturn, so at least they can both agree on a goal to achieve and the pair will help us to find the focus we need to achieve (Saturn) that which we desire (Mars).  However, Mars and Saturn are locked in a challenging square to both the Sun and Moon which has the potential to create some dissonance in our world for a few days.
