Mercury in Gemini

Astrological news this week: SuperMoon in Sagittarius! And Mercury in Gemini

art by Betty Albert

Astrological update for the week of June 13-20, 2022

There is a lot going on here, and the bigger influences tend to outshine the lunar aspects so we will put those on hold this week.

Sagittarius SuperMoon. This week’s Full Moon in Sagittarius (June 14, 11:51 am EDT) is a SuperMoon (™ astrologer Richard Nolle), meaning it is closer to Earth than at other times. When planetary bodies are closer to Earth their influence is stronger, which is why Mercury retrograde periods are so critical for communication – that is the time when Mercury is closest to Earth.

Every Full Moon tends to amplify our feelings and emotional triggers, and the SuperMoon simply intensifies that tendency which is already at work. However, this Full Moon is in Sagittarius, with the Sun in Gemini – the two signs of knowledge and wisdom. There is a dearth of the water element in the sky right now, and water is the element through which we process feelings, intuition and emotion. This Full Moon encourages us to be curious (Gemini Sun) and seek a higher path to real knowledge (Sagittarius).  Under the Sagittarius Full Moon we know that growth and evolution is the goal, and that confidence is all we need to get there.

This Full Moon chart engages some powerful allies and teachers. Both the Gemini Sun and Sagittarius Moon have a tendency to be ungrounded and can lack focus, but Saturn lends its grounding realism to the mix to aid in forging practical plans to achieve the sense of growth and peak experience that Sagittarius craves. That will be a big help since Neptune squares the lunation, however, tempting us into fantastic […]

Astrological news this week: Gemini New Moon & a change of direction

Astrological update for the week of May 30 –  June 5, 2022

art by Paula Bella Flores

A New Moon in Gemini, the sign of communication and experiences, offers an opportunity for a new perspective. The ruler of the New Moon is Mercury, the messenger planet, adding to the focus on communication and adaptation. In mythology, Mercury was the only god who was able to travel back and forth to the Underworld, facilitating communication between the gods. Mercury-ruled Gemini teaches us to accept and integrate a wide variety of ideas different kinds of experiences; under its influence everything is considered to have value for its own sake, and there is a keen desire to learn about many things. The Gemini New Moon is the perfect time to set aside our prejudices and look at our world through new eyes.

Making this a little more difficult is the fact that currently Mercury is in Taurus, a fixed sign which does not adapt easily to new situations, and Mercury is retrograde where we are looking more at the past than into the future. There may be some situations that need to be wrapped up before these new eyes can see clearly, especially since Mercury is within range of a square to Saturn which begin in late April before Mercury turned retrograde. Saturn tends to put the kibosh on new ideas, especially if they are half baked, so this is an important time to consider all details before venturing head-first into a new adventure.

The conjunction of Mars (action) to Jupiter (confidence) which dominated the astrology last week is still in effect and can encourage just that kind of head-first impulsivity so care should be taken. Mars and Jupiter […]

Astrological news this week: Pluto retrograde and eclipse season begins!

Astrological update for the week of April 25 – May 2, 2022

art by John Craig

Pluto turns retrograde. I’ve been talking for a while about the Pluto station because Pluto hasn’t moved much in months – it’s only traveled one degree since the end of February and won’t travel more than one degree until early July.  That is a long time if you have planets between 25 and 29 Capricorn or the other cardinal signs Cancer, Libra Aries.  And if you have planets between 0 and 2 degrees of Aquarius or the other fixed signs (Leo, Taurus, Scorpio) you’ll feel some effect too. (Some astrologers use 10 degree orbs or more – I tend to use tight orbs as that seems to work in a more practical setting, like real life.)

We have had quite a few months with no planets retrograde, and with Pluto changing direction we have just one retrograde planet. The next retrograde will be Mercury turning retrograde on May 10, but in the meantime the focus is on Pluto and drilling down to the absolute Truth. Self-deception might have been the name of the game over the past few weeks with Jupiter and Neptune slamming together in a dance of bliss and psychic harmony, and we now have Mars and Venus joining them in Pisces (see the information about the eclipse below).

When Pluto is in charge, we are under the guidance of fate. Anyone with tight aspects from Pluto to their natal chart knows this, and eventually we learn that when fate is in charge we are guided towards our highest destiny if we can only let go.

A note about the Pisces stellium.  The blurring of details is a feature […]

5.28.21 – Easier communication and flow with Mercury in Gemini conjunct Venus

art by Viktor Nizovtsev

Yesterday’s Venus/Neptune aspect opened the doorways to creativity and imagination, and then today we have Mercury conjunct Venus to lubricate greater flow in our interactions with others.  Mercury, in its own sign of Gemini where we are chattier, more curious, and more open minded, is the perfect match for Venus in Gemini which seeks connection through communication.  Under this influence which peaks on Saturday morning EDT compromise and adaptation comes more easily and it’s easier to understand the viewpoints of others.

Mercury is stationary in the sky right now as it prepares to turn retrograde, and you may already have noticed some Mercury retrograde effects:  Communication confusion, equipment malfunction, lost orders… this conjunction from Mercury to Venus will ease some of that for a day or so but it’s a good idea to be prepared for Mercury retrograde by taking special care with anything having to do with information or communication in an attempt to avoid snafus!  And then expect that they will happen anyway. 😃  But meanwhile, the Capricorn Moon helps to stabilize and offers support for planning and defining goals and ideals in preparation for the upcoming Mercury Rx review period.

5.12.21 – Rebalancing and mental clarity with Mercury trine Saturn

art by Romany Soup

Did anyone else find this New Moon to be particularly intense? I know I did!  Today’s energies will help to balance out rough energies and facilitate the processing of information that might have been gained from the lunar event. Mercury is in its own sign of Gemini, where it is best able to handle the inflows of data that comes from our experiences and filtered through our psyche and emotions into a form which can be used for growth and increased understanding.  The stability of Saturn, also in its own sign as the traditional ruler of Aquarius, helps to ground all of the information coming through and focus a bit more on what is important and what is not.

Both Mercury and Saturn are in air signs which are more yang than the earthy energy we just went through with the Taurus New Moon – there is the potential for more movement and the breaking up of stuck energies.  The Moon enters Gemini today, and that will facilitate this changeability even more.  Mercury ruled Gemini is all about the mind and the mental constructs and ideas that we base our lives upon.  With the mental clarity that Saturn brings to Mercury, today is an excellent day for reading, communicating, or just sitting quietly and absorbing the wisdom that is all around us. ❤️
