Astrological news this week: Mostly mild with a hint of Saturn

Astrological update for the week of June 6-13, 2022.

Saturn turned retrograde on Saturday which happens to be Saturn’s own day. Saturn of course is the planet of restriction and hard work, but his gift is in the rewards that come as a result. Any planet when changing direction has a more intensely powerful impact, especially if it is affecting your chart in a more personal way and when that planet is Saturn there is more pressure to take a realistic view of our world. Saturn will tend to kick our behinds if we are living in a fantasy land so when Saturn is stationary in the sky as it is right now, barely moving, it wants our attention.

There are a number of planets at 25-26 degrees right now – Saturn is at 25 Aquarius square to Mercury at 26 Taurus, further demanding a serious mind and attention to all matters of communication. Saturn is in an awkward semi-sextile to mystical Neptune, further emphasizing the idea that too much fantasy or idealization (Neptune) will not have a good outcome. Fortunately we have two of the personal planets in earthy Taurus (Mercury and Venus) to help us to ground and center.

Otherwise the planetary activity is fairly mild, with no major outer planet alignments at all during the month of June. In fact, there are no other outer planet aspects for the rest of the year. It’s the outer planets which apply the most pressure in longer lasting cycles, and when those influences are absent we become more aware of the more subtle influences of the faster moving planets and the Moon. That doesn’t mean you won’t personally be affected if […]

Astrological news this week: Pluto retrograde and eclipse season begins!

Astrological update for the week of April 25 – May 2, 2022

art by John Craig

Pluto turns retrograde. I’ve been talking for a while about the Pluto station because Pluto hasn’t moved much in months – it’s only traveled one degree since the end of February and won’t travel more than one degree until early July.  That is a long time if you have planets between 25 and 29 Capricorn or the other cardinal signs Cancer, Libra Aries.  And if you have planets between 0 and 2 degrees of Aquarius or the other fixed signs (Leo, Taurus, Scorpio) you’ll feel some effect too. (Some astrologers use 10 degree orbs or more – I tend to use tight orbs as that seems to work in a more practical setting, like real life.)

We have had quite a few months with no planets retrograde, and with Pluto changing direction we have just one retrograde planet. The next retrograde will be Mercury turning retrograde on May 10, but in the meantime the focus is on Pluto and drilling down to the absolute Truth. Self-deception might have been the name of the game over the past few weeks with Jupiter and Neptune slamming together in a dance of bliss and psychic harmony, and we now have Mars and Venus joining them in Pisces (see the information about the eclipse below).

When Pluto is in charge, we are under the guidance of fate. Anyone with tight aspects from Pluto to their natal chart knows this, and eventually we learn that when fate is in charge we are guided towards our highest destiny if we can only let go.

A note about the Pisces stellium.  The blurring of details is a feature […]

Weekend update May 1, 2021: The wisdom of creative inspiration

from the Star Tarot

This weekend brings an abundance of beautifully unfolding planetary energies to help ground our biggest and most imaginative ideas into a solid foundation.  The Moon is in Capricorn until Sunday afternoon EDT/Sunday night GMT, facilitating practicality and the organization of dreams into reality.  On Saturday there are no exact alignments, enabling the Moon to fulfill its Capricornian mission of structuring of our wishes into plans.  Four planets in Taurus plus the waning Capricorn Moon offers an exceptionally time of grounded Earth energy – perfect for organizing a decluttering project or completing a task which has lingered for some time.

Meanwhile two planetary dynamics are building which will culminate later on Sunday: A harmonious trine from comfort-minded Mercury in Taurus to Pluto, focusing the mind and easing the way into difficult conversations.  This is a great weekend for projects which require mental concentration or to think through a problem which requires a practical focus.  At the same time, a sextile from Venus in Taurus to Neptune encourages the flow of creative imagination as well as enhancing any experience with the bliss of spiritual emergence.  The deep joy that occurs when we are appreciating beautiful music or art, or the rolling waves on the beach, the experience of meditation when we finally let go into that Beta state and are transported into bliss – these are the best of the Venus/Neptune possibilities this weekend.  ❤️
