The Astrology of Revolution in Honduras

Honduras is not a country that has been much in the news, but in June of this year president Manuel Zelaya, who had attempted to rewrite the constitution of that country to permit a president to serve two terms, was ousted by a military coup ordered by the Honduran Supreme Court.  Zelaya re-entered the country illegally last week and demanded reinstatement and the fall of the replacement government.  The government reacted by suspending civil liberties and instituting martial law in many places in the country just as Saturn opposed Uranus exactly.

My bible for national charts is Moon Moore’s Book of World Horoscopes, but written back in the 1960s it lacks the benefit of knowledge of more recent history.   Moon used the date that Honduras seceded from the Central American Federation as the date for the national chart of Honduras, but the military ruled the country for many years until 1979 when the country returned to civilian rule (source: WIkipedia).  A new constitution was approved in 1982. Still, the new constitution did not particularly change or alter the country in any way so I am going to go with Moon’s original date of November 5, 1838.

That chart reflects very well the nature of the Honduran government, which like many Latin American countries has bounced back and forth between civilian and military rule   The Sun in this chart is in Scorpio, the planet of power and drama.  Scorpio is not very concerned with democracy or the will of the people – there is an intense desire and passion with Scorpio that holds on to power with an iron grip.  The Sun conjoins Mercury, planet of communication and movement, signifying that despite the fixed nature of the Scorpio Sun, the national identity (Sun) is changeable or Mercurial  (Mercury).  The national […]

The astrology of North Korea

Before you can have an accurate astrological profile, you must have an accurate date of birth.  In a mundane chart of a nation this gets a little tricky.  What is the moment of birth?  Is it the moment that the nation is announced?  Is it when the constitution is signed?  Ratified?  New leaders elected?

In my online research today I found several different dates used by astrologers for North Korea.  There is a chart for August 10, 1945, the date that the US War Department decided to partition the country at the 38th parallel.  There is a chart for September 10, 1948 which appears to have come originally from Nick Campion’s Book of World Horoscopes and is incorrect.

In my view, using the August 1945 date for North Korea is a bit like using the time of conception for a birthchart.  Information from the US State Department and several Korean websites confirm that the actual birthing of the Democratic People’s Republic of North Korea (DPRK) was proclaimed by Kim Il Sung on September 9, 1948, and this is the day that is celebrated by the North Korean people as the founding anniversary.

Chiron in the comments section suggested that we must also look at the revision of the North Korean constitution, but additional research reveals that the constitution has been revised many times including in 1992 and 1998.  Because the government did not change, I’m inclined to disregard these charts.

I have not been able to find a suitable time for the North Korea chart so I will use noon as Robert Blaschke does in his excellent article for The Mountain Astrologer.

The Sun in the North Korea chart is in Virgo where it is in the final stage of a transit of Saturn.   Virgo […]

An astrology chart for North Korea

There are several charts floating around for North Korea, and none of them are sourced.  Many astrologers use the August 10, 1945 date.  At midnight on August 10-11 member of the US War Department made the decision to divide Korea at the 38th parallel.

Jeff Jawer of Star IQ and Marjorie Orr use a chart for September 10, 1948.  Robert Blaschke uses a chart for midnight on September 9, 1948 and this appears to be the date that is celebrated by the DPRK.  However, it appears that the constitution for the Democratic People’s Republic of North Korea was actually signed on September 5 1948.

I’m continuing my research and have sent out some inquiries to Jeff, Marjorie and Robert, but if any of you have some good information please post a comment!

More on the astrology of the new Iranian Revolution

Most news reports are now speaking of revolution in Iran.  As I wrote a few days ago, transiting Uranus (revolution and sudden change) is passing right over Mars in the chart of the Islamic Republic of Iran.  Nancy Waterman writes:

Mars in this chart is in the 8th house and ruler of the 9th house (Aries cusp), the Sun (in Aries), and co-ruler of the 4th house (Scorpio cusp). Thus, this transit is shaking up the rulership of the country (the Sun), bringing the feel of deeply hidden rancor coming out into the open and causing transformation (8th house), and convulsing the people and the foundation of the country (4th house). In addition, there is the inflammation, anger, confrontation, and sudden eruption of rebellion and violence inherent in a Mars/Uranus combination. This transit will continue through late August, exact on August 23, and then return in February 2010. It has been intensively activated by the transits of the Sun (25 Gemini) and Mars (10 Taurus) in the past few days, culminating around 7:30 PM local time on June 17 with the exact square of transiting Sun and transiting Uranus.

Looking a little more deeply into the Iran charts, this revolution, if that’s what it becomes, likely has its roots in the conjunction of the progressed Sun (the national identity) in the Iran chart to Chiron (the wound to the soul) back in March of 2008.  Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was elected in 2005 as a populist – someone who understood the common people.  Instead, he imposed cultural restrictions on the rights of women and forced university professors and scientists to retire.  His promises have not come to pass, and many Iranians want a change that comes with more personal freedom and liberty.

We see this desire for liberty with the transit of […]

A crisis for Pakistan

Benazir Bhutto was killed yesterday in a suicide bombing widely attributed to the Taliban and Al Qaeda although some suspect the work of Pervez Musharraf while government officials report that no bullet or shrapnel was found in her body and that instead she was killed when she ducked trying to avoid being hit.

At any rate, the attack occurs when transiting Pluto is within seven minutes of the final exact square to the Virgo ascendant and opposition to the Gemini midheaven in the chart of Pakistan, changing the face of the image (Ascendant) as well as its public role (Midheaven) of that country forever. Transits of outer planets to the angles (Ascendant and Midheaven) demonstrate life-changing periods of crisis. Reactions by supporters to Bhutto’s assassination could help to continue to destabilize that already tenuous country which would have ramifications around the world if the hardline Islamists gain even more power there than they had already taken.

Pluto first opposed the Pakistan ascendant back in February through April of 2007, stationing right on the descendant point which governs the polarity between the effect of relationships on the national identity. At the same time, Pluto was exactly square the chart’s Midheaven which includes a conjunction of Mars and Uranus right on the Midheaven point. It is no mystery as to why this is such a volatile period in Pakistani history.

Wherever Pluto appears we are always dealing with issues of power as well as of death of an old order and the rebirth of a new one. In early March of 2007 when Pluto was within 10 minutes of an exact opposition to the ascendant, Musharraf suspended the chief justice and shut down the media, setting off a firestorm of opposition to Musharraf’s rule.
