Neptune in Pisces

Some scientists agree…the Universe is a conscious being

Since the beginning of time, humans have debated the source of consciousness.  Is it all in the physical brain?  Are we just a pack of neurons in a physical body?  Is the sum total of all that we experience contained in the physical body?

A recent article in Aeon Magazine postulated:

Some consciousness researchers see the hard problem as real but inherently unsolvable; others posit a range of options for its account. Those solutions include possibilities that overly project mind into matter. Consciousness might, for example, be an example of the emergence of a new entity in the Universe not contained in the laws of particles [emphasis added].

Panpsychism is the theory that consciousness is the root of all things – a universal feature that links all beings and things.  This kind of theory is a part of nearly all eastern religions as well as most ancient philosophies, but fell out of favor with the emergence of the scientific method which required empirical proof rather than speculation.

With Neptune, the planet that inspires in us the direct experience of divine consciousness, in its own sign of Pisces, it’s not surprising that there is a bit of a resurgence in the idea of pantheism and the idea that the Universe is itself conscious.  Scientist Gregory Matloff has hypothesized that

humans may be like the rest of the universe in substance and in spirit. A “proto-consciousness field” could extend through all of space, he argues. Stars may be thinking entities that deliberately control their paths. Put more bluntly, the entire cosmos may be self-aware.

Neptune and the Opioid addiction epidemic

Neptune in Pisces artist unknown

Neptune is one of the “transformational” planets – more recently discovered it does not fall under the traditional category of planets which include the luminaries (Sun and Moon) as well as the planets traditionally used by astrologers which include all the other solar system planets through Saturn.  I have found that the transformational planets do not operate on a personal level; instead, they inspire and motivate change.

At its higher level of operation, Neptune encourages us to transcend the boundaries of the material world in order to enjoy a spiritual experience of bliss and “not-self.”  However, there are different ways to achieve that experience and not all of them are positive.  Meditation, music, art – these all encourage the highest expression of Neptune.  But alcohol and drugs are also used to obtain that experience of “not-self” which verges on oblivion rather than bliss.

Neptune entered its own sign of Pisces in 2011 (you can read more about that here and here). In these early articles about Neptune in Pisces I wrote:

For the first eight years that Neptune moves through Pisces Chiron will be there as well.  In its role as the Wounded Healer (or as I prefer to call it, the Soul Healer) Chiron reveals any area in our world which requires release and healing so that a greater wisdom may emerge.  We are likely to see a more advanced wave of “designer” drugs – pharmaceuticals designed to evoke certain experiences.  The legalization of marijuana for medical use, and its adoption by pharmaceutical companies for profit, is likely to come rather quickly.

The spread of legalization of marijuana  is certainly occurring, and so is the spread of opioids to quash the psycho-emotional pain that Chiron […]

Sao Paulo: harbinger of water wars

water warsOne of the world’s largest cities is in an unprecedented water crisis.  Sao Paulo, South America’s largest city and the twelfth largest city in the world, is expected to run out of water by June of 2015.  Much of the drought in Brazil is due to the deforestation of the Amazon which increases the levels of heat and reduces rainwater.

Aside from air, living things most need water to survive.  When water disappears, the wealthy are able to purchase water such as we saw last year when billionaires paid millions of dollars to import water to their Montecito California estates.

California is in what is being called the worst drought in a millenium.  Climate change has reduced the amount of snowpack melt in the mountains which in the past has served to irrigate the farms that provide fresh produce to the rest of the world.  To stave off “desertification” water is being pumped from the ground at a faster pace than it can recharge.

A drought emergency has been declared in thirteen counties in Oregon.  California and Arizona are battling over access to water from the Colorado River.  Israel is cutting off access to water in its ongoing war against the Palestinians.  Unprecedented growth in both China and India is causing tensions over the damming of rivers that provide water to both countries.

This comprehensive listing of water wars over the past three millenia provide an interesting history of conflicts over water.  It’s interesting to note the acceleration of conflict over water beginning in 2002, just before Uranus entered Pisces, the sign associated with the ocean.  Uranus is dry by nature – it rules electricity and lightning storms as well as thunder and radical rebellious […]

The Fifth Sacred Thing and upcoming Water Wars

10491447_sIn 1993 Starhawk, an early spokesperson for the neo-pagan movement, wrote a book called The Fifth Sacred Thing.  In this post-apocalyptic novel, set in San Francisco, a theocratic dictatorship has seized all of the assets of the earth: air, food and water, and is the sole source of pharmaceutical antidotes for the ecological poisons they themselves create.  The Fifth Sacred Thing is Spirit, after the four elements of Earth, Air, Fire and Water.

It is a scenario that is not so far-fetched today, but in 1993 a world such as this seemed far in the distant future.  But in the 20 years since then, and in the 20 years hence (the story is set in 2048), Pluto will have traveled through fire (Sagittarius, 1995-2008), Capricorn (2008-2023), Aquarius (2023-2043) and Pisces (2043-2066).  And the world’s population will have increased by 2.5 billion, most of these in the poorest countries with the fewest resources.

Pluto’s journey through Sagittarius (expansion and foreign cultures) globalized the planet in a way no one could have imagined previously.  Pluto is now in Capricorn (capitalism and society) where it is breaking down the structures upon which humanity has relied for hundreds of years.  When Pluto moves through Aquarius (technology and revolution) we are likely to see the kind of technocracy and rule by machines that have been imagined by science fiction writers for years. And Pluto in Pisces (ocean) is likely to bring the water wars.

Humans can live without food for a while, but we cannot live without water.  When water becomes scarcer than gold, it becomes a precious commodity.  Wars over water are nothing new, especially in the southwestern United States where water was diverted from rivers to fertilize the barren deserts of California and […]

Neptune in Pisces: “The future of live entertainment is dead”

While Neptune is usually considered a planet of spirituality, it also is the ruler of the experience of the masses.  We usually put “entertainment” in that category, and now that Neptune has slipped into Pisces the nature of reality and entertainment is beginning to have the famous Neptunian blurring effect.  Augmented reality will change the way we view our world, and now holographic performances are making an appearance at rock festivals. Last weekend at the Coachella festival an apparent holographic image of the beloved rap icon Tupac Shakur gave a featured performance. http://youtu.be/AksK8BoPB5g The holographic image wasn’t actual footage of Shakur: “This is not found footage. This is not archival footage. This is an illusion, and this is just the beginning, Ed Ulbrich told WSJ. “Dre has a massive vision for this.” The last time Neptune was in Pisces, beginning in 1848, print magazines were just beginning to bring news to the masses in a more entertaining form.  Plays and vaudeville act attracted the average citizen into theaters around the world and made entertainment itself more accessible.  Neptune’s travel through Pisces this time will no doubt continue to change the entertainment industry.
