Astrologers predict the outcome of the 2012 election: Part I

2012 presidential election predictionsAt the recent United Astrology Conference (to which I was invited to speak, but was unable to attend due to family health emergencies), a panel of esteemed astrologers discussed their predictions regarding the outcome of the 2012 presidential elections.

You can watch the entire presentation here and here (thanks Chris Brennan for the links).  I was interested to see what techniques these astrologers used.  Most of the astrologers on the panel represent one of the more traditional branches of astrology, with Gary Christian practicing Uranian astrology which is a sort of fringe element of astrology that goes back to the early 20th century.

  • Gary Christian, representing Uranian astrology and Cosmobiology.
  • Edith Hathaway, representing Indian or Vedic astrology.
  • Nina Gryphon, representing Medieval and Renaissance astrology.
  • Claude Weiss, representing Modern western astrology.
  • Chris Brennan, representing Hellenistic astrology, on behalf of the writers of the Political Astrology Blog.

Gary Christian used the date for the oath of office and the solstice chart for the Winter Solstice 2012 and inserted the charts for both candidates into these charts.

Edith Hathaway used a variety of Vedic techniques as well as the strength of the ascendant lord (ruler) and the 10th house lord (ruler).  She is suspicious of the official Obama chart but prefers her rectified chart with Cancer rising as opposed to the Aquarius rising chart using the official birth certificate.  (Personally I have a hard time seeing Obama as a sensitive Cancerian ascendant.)

Nina Gryphon uses only the traditional planets.  She used the Aries ingress (spring equinox) chart for the year and location of the election. You can read more about her techniques here.

Claude Weiss uses transits and progressions, converse progressions, solar returns including progressed solar […]

Musings on the death of Osama bin Laden

death of osama bin ladenAlthough March 10 1957 is commonly given as the date of birth for Osama bin Laden, This has not been certain enough for astrologers to rely on. While several sources, including an interview with bin Laden himself, have used the date of March 10, 1957 the US State Department records for some reason used July 30, 1957. For this reason, astrologers have not had a date of birth, much less a time, that was reliable enough to create a chart that was anything but speculative. According to Astrodatabank, an astrologer in Brussels named William de Rijke had a friend at Interpol who saw a copy of bin Laden’s birth records with a time of 10:58 am.  But this sounds fishy to me since they didn’t keep any kind of birth records in Saudi Arabia until the late 1950s, much less one with an accurate birth time. Astrologer Claire France Perez is quoted at Astrodatabank:

“I had acquired information from a Muslim historian, (on the Internet) who said bin Laden was born 3rd month, 10th day of the Muslim calendar year 1377. The FBI lists his DOB as March 10, 1957–the third month and tenth day of our calendar year–incorrectly transposing the Islamic days and months for ours, getting the year correctly. The March 10 1957 date confirms that the 3rd month and 10th day are what we are looking for.”

So I am reluctant to use this data as a chart for bin Laden. I am frankly not so sure that bin Laden hasn’t been dead for years.  Osama bin Laden was very much a public figure and seemed to relish making videos in which he thumbed his nose at the US after al […]

Barack Obama releases birth certificate (again)

Barack Obama birth certificateAstrologers are always hunting for birth information, so we were the first ones on the trail of Barack Obama’s birth certificate.  Not that we believed he might be from Kenya, but we wanted to be able to construct an accurate birthchart. You can read the thread of my articles on the subject here along with my astrological profiles of the President.

At the moment Mars and Jupiter are moving into a conjunction that will culminate just after midnight (EDT) on Sunday May 1st, and right now they are within two degrees of each other and of the President’s progressed ascendant.  This may be a little too  geeky for some of my readers, but the simplification here is that the planet of aggression and inspiration (Mars) is aligning with the planet of expansion and opportunity (Jupiter) in Mars’s own sign of Aries, the sign of self-motivation and courageous pursuit of one’s Truth.

It’s hard to conjure up anyone who exemplifies the combination of Marsy aggression and Jupiter’s braggodocio better than Donald Trump, whose relentless pursuit of Obama’s birth certificate over the past few weeks led to the President’s announcement yesterday.  And as it happens, Mr. Trump’s chart shows Mars sitting right on the ascendant where it becomes a part of his persona.

The progressed chart shows our evolution through time, and the progressed ascendant reveals our changing image as we project it to others, and as we see ourselves.  With Mars and Jupiter, both in Aries, transiting President Obama’s progressed ascendant he is asserting (Mars) more authority and his poll numbers are already up as a result of the announcement yesterday.

Warning: political rant ahead

On a non-astrological note, many of the President’s critics […]

Everything is in opposition under Saturn and Uranus

Saturn and Uranus are now within two degrees of their exact opposition which culminates on September 15.  As you probably now, Saturn represents conservative thinking and conventional behavior, and Uranus represents that which is new and innovative.

Perhaps this wasn’t the best time to roll out healthcare reform in the United States, since oppositional defiance is occurring not only between the Democrats and Republicans, but in splinter groups within the parties as well.  The desire to be in opposition to SOMETHING is fostered by the opposition from Saturn to Uranus, and if this planetary combination is transiting something in our own chart that urge to rebel against oneself can be quite complicated.

The opposition of Saturn to Uranus has been tightly aspecting Mars in President Obama’s chart, with Saturn conjunct Mars and Uranus in opposition.  A transit of Saturn to Mars in our own chart is very like trying to drive with the brakes on.  However, Saturn has now moved off Obama’s Mars which should begin to make things a little easier for him.  When a planet in the sky is opposite a planet in our chart (a transit of opposition) we often meet the transiting planet in our outer world.

Jupiter is retrograding back over Obama’s Ascendant (the first hit was back in late March of this year) and transiting Saturn will form a harmonious sextile to Saturn in his natal chart, helping him to get things done and giving him the confidence to make it happen.  However, between October and December transiting Uranus will make the last opposition to Mars in Obama’s chart and it’s quite possible that we will see further amplification of the radical (Uranus) behavior surrounding everything he attempts to do (Mars).  This is already […]
