Planetary news this week: Prepare for fog and magic!

Deviant Art

Feeling a little fuzzy lately? It could be that four planets and luminaries are all in mystical, magical Pisces.  Pisces inspires dreams and soul-opening experiences that expand us into heretofore unexplored realms of consciousness and bliss.  However, everything astrological has a dark side and a light side, and the dark side of Pisces is confusion and lack of motivation.

This week’s trip through Pisces is like an adventure into the land of faery… everything seems brighter and more beautiful, but we are apt to get lost into the mists of time.

Accelerating this potential for faery-land is the fact that Neptune, the modern ruler of Pisces which shares these attributes of magic and bliss but also confusion, is strongly aspecting all of the involved planets (Mercury, Venus, Chiron) and the Sun until March 6th and 7th when Venus and Mercury respectively will move into Aries and fire up our engines for re-entry into the real world.

Until then, this is a wonderful time for any kind of spiritual activity or anything that requires imagination and creative flow.  Meditation, creative writing or artistic work, musical expression – these are all perfect activities for the next couple of weeks. This will be a more difficult time for major decisions, so if you have to make one (unfortunately life doesn’t always wait for the perfect astrological timing) strap on your reality glasses and try to be sure you are seeing the real world as clearly as possible.

In any case – enjoy the magic, and allow any potential fog to take you into magical places that without it, you would never have discovered!

A Big Big Full Moon in Leo, February 2015

Leo Full Moon February 2015The Leo Full Moon on February 3rd is a powerhouse of enthusiasm and positive energy.  The sign of Leo is majestic and creative, always seeking ways to shine and express the uniqueness of the Self.  In this Full Moon, the Moon conjoins expansive Jupiter, bestowing confidence and abundance and opening the heart to greater potential for joy.

At the Leo Full Moon the Leo Moon opposes the Aquarius Sun, so there is a tension between the focus on the personal (Leo) and a push for a more transpersonal experience where all of humanity becomes equivalent to the individual self (Aquarius).  This tension is amplified by the presence of Jupiter, which aligns with the Moon to open the heart and opposes the Sun to plant a seed of dissatisfaction with the status quo and encourage us to seek ever greater experiences and personal admiration.  For Leo’s desire to shine from the open heart also contains a need for adulation from others that can be triggered by Jupiterian righteous confidence.

All Full Moons require balance and integration between two opposing polarities, and this dance between the development of the personal Self (Leo) a the more detached and reasoned focus on humanitarian service (Aquarius) is a tricky one.  Fortunately the Sun, in a harmonious sextile to Uranus, helps us to bridge that divide by exciting the mind and opening up new pathways for us to re-imagine the world around us.

There is a lineup now of planets in Pisces (Mars, Chiron, Venus and Neptune) ask that we surrender and let go of our ideas of who we are and what we must have for our happiness (Leo) in order to find a more transcendent bliss that comes directly from the Divine […]

Mercury retrograde, and a Virgo Full Moon: February 2013

Virgo Full Moon February 2013Mercury turns retrograde today (February 23) and it’s time to go over the things we’ve done in the past in order to help perfect our future. Mercury is in Pisces now where it tends to be more adaptable and flexible and doesn’t mind reversing itself in order to improve the flow of our lives so this retrograde period may not be as difficult as some others.

Mercury turns retrograde for three weeks four times a year, so it is not a rare event.  I like to think of retrograde periods as being similar to ocean waves on a beach.  The ocean comes towards the shore, and then it retreats so that it can come once more – the ebb and flow of life.  We progress forwards in our life, marching towards the end of time, and then periodically we retreat, take a break, and re-evaluate that progress.  We correct the things that aren’t working, and improve the things that are.

While it’s true that Mercury retrograde periods are not great times to plan a vacation or make a major purchase, I confess I do these things all the time.  In my real estate business I can’t take off three weeks four times a year when Mercury turns retrograde, but if I have to sign a contract during that time I know to be prepared for renegotiations and reversals.

But Mercury retrograde is not the only news – we also have a Full Moon on February 25th in Virgo, the sign of practical reality and the body/mind/spirit system. I personally believe that Chiron is the modern ruler of Virgo because both share an attention to the balance between mental and spiritual health to the physical body. This […]
