Saturn and Pluto conjunct South Node: The day of reckoning

(Bloom County Comic) Accounting for misdeeds comes in all shapes and sizes.  I accidentally stepped on my cat’s tail and have to beg for forgiveness.   You say something insensitive to a friend and apologize for that misdeed.  But this year we have seen the exposure of some enormous misdeeds and the need for the accounting to set the scales of justice in order.

Ever since March 2019 either Saturn or Pluto, and sometimes both planets, conjoined the South or descending lunar node.  The Nodes of the Moon, as many of you know, are like directional signs pointing the way from where we’ve come (South Node) to where we are headed (North Node).  There is a quality of fate with the nodes; a sense that the direction of our journey is already charted and of course this is true to some extent.  We can’t change our natal chart and our basic characteristics, and that North Node is always beckoning to us as a focus of personal growth.  But along the way we make choices and these choices can change the course of our lives for good or for ill.

Saturn is a personal planet and operates in the personal realm, challenging us to face our responsibilities and work diligently towards our goals and often testing us in various ways to increase our emotional and physical endurance.  Pluto is a transpersonal planet; its influence can be more ruthless in its pressure to create and support personal transformation.  Saturn makes things hard, Pluto can break us or make us.  With both of these planets  pressuring the South Node of the past, it’s no wonder that there have been personal crises and revelations of a very public nature as […]

Astrological news for the week of April 1, 2019 including South Node activation

The first week of April could be a bit confusing, especially between the 1st and the 3rd of April.  With four planets in mystical and magical Pisces, the focus is more on imagination and illumination than practical matters.  Mercury has turned direct, but it conjoins Neptune on the 2nd and the two are intertwined for several days afterwards. This period is wonderful for creativity and spiritual exploration but maybe wait until at least the 5th of April before making decisions that require a lot of careful thought and consideration.

Meanwhile, transformational Pluto triggers the South Node to activate the undoing of karma.  When this transit (culminating April 4th) occurs in the chart of an individual, we often find an eruption of an old pattern that hits us in the face as we realize a change needs to happen.  When this transit occurs globally, as it does every 19 years or so (the last Pluto alignment with the South Node occurred in Sagittarius in 2002), there is a purge of collective karma – an eruption and release of the past to enable passage into the present and future.  If Pluto is currently transiting your own chart, this will affect you more personally than others who are not individually triggered by Pluto at the moment.  Saturn and the South Node will complete the dance at the end of the month, making this a month-long adventure in cleaning up the past.  Even if you are not personally activated by this event, you might as well join in and clean out the metaphoric basement of your psyche: old patterns, toxic relationships, outmoded beliefs.

This could bring up some emotional pain between April 1st and the 6th or so as Mars (aggression and motivation) challenges […]

All hail the Cancerian Full Moon at the Winter Solstice!

The astrological Solstice occurs when the Sun enters Capricorn (for my Southern Hemisphere friends this is actually the Summer Solstice).  Solstices and Equinoxes are important energetic gateways having to do with the balance of light and darkness.  At the Winter Solstice, the days are at their shortest and as humans we are pulled inwards into deep soul reflection.

The astrology of the Solstice Full Moon

This year, a Full Moon at zero degrees Cancer marks the entry of the Sun into Capricorn.  The Full Moon is the height of the lunar cycle – the lunar energy of instinct and emotional truth is maximized, and the power fueled by the realm of feelings is at its height.  At the same time, the cycle of darkness and light is at its nadir.  The combination of these two effects opens a portal of energy which we can use to effect powerful change in our own life.  And I believe, in the world around us.

When the Moon is full in Cancer, it opposes the Capricorn Sun, also at zero degrees.  The Cancer/Capricorn polarity asks that we balance the realm of emotion and the inner life of the soul (Cancer) with the world of the trappings of the material world: success, structure, rules and order.  But at the Full Moon the lunar influence is at its most powerful, drawing us more deeply into the inner world of feelings.

The Cancerian Full Moon is packed full of feeling and emotion, and the power of that emotion has the potential to transform your life for good and for ill.  When we harness our emotions to our Will, we create magic.  A little bit of intention can go a long way towards creating a lasting and positive transformation and that […]
