How to know what your Valentine wants, using astrology

art by Valeri Tsenov

This is just a fun article and is not intended to replace serious astrological analysis (synastry) in which the entire astrological chart is considered and compared to the loved one. ❤️

Introduction.

When you’re wondering what your Valentine is looking for, don’t bother looking at his or her Sun sign. When it comes to relationships it’s Mars, Venus and the Moon that rule. Look up your beloved’s chart here and see where these planets fall in their charts and you’ll get an idea of what they need in the relationship.

Venus in the birthchart reveals our relationship needs – how we express our affection, and how we would like to be treated by our partner. It also describes our aesthetic preferences and the type of art or furnishings we enjoy for our home.

Venus in water signs tends to desire emotional closeness and connection; in the air signs Venus wants to think and talk about the relationship. In fire signs Venus wants a bolder and more adventurous expression of love, and in earth we see a Venus who enjoys staying home and enjoying the fruits of their labors.

Mars shows our physical energy and drive, and describes the kinds of experiences that we desire. The sign that Mars falls in gives us a clue as to the needs of the sexual drive. When Mars is in fire signs, there is a need for excitement and pure sexual energy. In air, the brain becomes the major sex organ. Mars in water wants to feel connected and nurtured, and in earth Mars is more sensual and physical.

The Moon is the Inner Child – it identifies the types of emotional experiences we need to be secure and […]

Astrological advice: When will Jupiter bring me my ideal relationship?

astrological adviceEach week I answer a reader question using their astrological chart.  Because this service is designed to help as many people as possible, preference is given to questions which will have benefit and interest others.  If you have a burning question you think others will share, please email me and it will be considered!

Q:
Jupiter has been transiting my seventh house since October 2017, I was expecting for a relationship to appear in my life. I was sure that just like Meghan Markle fell into Harry’s life, someone would fall into mine and vice versa. So I have been going to parties, pubs, weddings, meetings… any invitation I am saying yes (just like Jim Carrey in Yes Man movie), but nothing -besides drunk men- falls on my lap.

Jupiter is about to move to my 8th house and I am worried -frightened, indeed- that I will end up missing that experience in this life. I really want to marry and have a family of my own… but it looks like  no matter what I do, no matter where I go… I end up the same. I am up to the point where I am tired and just want to curl in my bed… I hate loud places, I hate going to parties where I am stalked by married men, I hate going to the beach to be asked by kids half my age, but I am scared that if I don’t, I will be missing this opportunity.

What are your thoughts on this? what piece of advice/light could you give me on this? Are my expectations on Jupiter wrong or too high?

A:

When I was single for about nine years after my divorce I too watched the passages of […]

The astrology of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle

photo from FlickrPrince Harry and Meghan Markle are set to marry on May 19, 2018 and the royal watchers are abuzz with gossip.  Will it last?  Is she a gold digger?  What about the racists?  Meanwhile Germaine Greer has predicted that Meghan will “bolt” from the marriage, and an assortment of psychics are predicting that the wedding will be postponed, that it won’t happen, that that it won’t last, that they will have three children, etc. etc.

Astrology can give us a window into a relationship and provide hints as to compatibility and durability.  What it cannot do, however, is predict whether two people will stay together.  I have seen couples with perfectly harmonious charts split up because there’s not enough tension to hold the relationship together.  And I have seen couples with very little compatibility who have long-term successful marriages.

All that aside, let’s take a look at Meghan and Harry to see how they are connected and where their difficulties might arise.  You can catch up on Harry’s chart analysis here, and Meghan’s here.

Meghan and Harry’s astrology as individuals

Meghan and Harry are an example of two very different people uniting in a common purpose.  With his Sun Sign in Virgo in a harmonious trine to his Taurus Moon and Capricorn rising (all Earth signs), Harry is at his core an extremely grounded and practical individual.  However, his freewheeling Mars (drive and desires) conjunct Uranus (radical departure from the norm) in Sagittarius, the sign of freedom and adventure adds a radical side to his personality which defies the kind of structure which the earthy element creates.  In the earlier article about Harry quoted above I wrote:

The […]

Soulmates: Are you really made for each other?

soulmatesAs an astrologer I am often asked for an analysis of compatibility between two charts.  “Is this person my soulmate?” is usually the way the question is phrased.  The idea that there is one perfect person who is just made for us, a “twin flame” as it is often described, is a captivating one.  We may feel that once we find this perfect person, who harmonizes with us in every way, we would feel whole and complete and our lives would be made more satisfactory.

What I have seen in the real world is that the longest lasting marriages are not the ones that are most harmonious astrologically.  In fact, some of the longest marriages are perhaps the least compatible.  In the real world we are drawn to people who have qualities which we ourselves do not – the partners that complement us rather than provide merely a mirror or reflection of ourselves.

So I found this article particularly interesting:

The concept of soul mates is so romantic. Think of Plato’s description of the original humans, with their four arms, four legs and single heads of two faces, which sounds maybe a little unsettling but becomes so sweet once the mortal puzzle pieces get separated in half and have to find one another to become whole again. Why wouldn’t anyone want to be with someone who was made for them in heaven?

Well, because taking that view of a relationship could ultimately contribute to the couple’s demise, according to a new study in the Journal of Experimental Social Psychology. Researchers observed that while there are myriad ways people talk about love, two common ways of framing relationships — the “other half/soul mate” approach […]

Why we click with some people and not others

relationship astrologyAs an astrologer, I understand that when we click with some people and not others it’s because planetary interactions between the charts of different individuals manifest differently.  If your Mars (aggression) is in a challenging aspect to my Moon (emotional sensitivity), I may feel threatened or irritated by you.  If your Pluto (power and intensity) sits on my Sun (expression of Self) I may feel overpowered by you.  If your Venus aligns with mine, I will probably love you instantly!

So I found this article interesting:

I have always been fascinated by this question.

With some of my friends, we can go for years without connecting. Yet, when we do come back together, it feels like no time has passed.

With other friends, however, the process is much less organic. There seem to be inbuilt “requirements” – which I sometimes feel I should be sensing without needing to be told….yet don’t. …

As my mentor explained, all pots of energy are necessary – and all are desirable. But not all pots of energy mesh well with one another.

When we meet someone who seems to come from our same or similar “pot” of energy, the organic (first kind) of friendship takes place. It is effortless. We just “get” one another. Neither party worries when the other disappears for a time. Intuition and faith guides the connection through its ebbs and flows. There is a natural joy of “getting” another person and being “gotten” by another person in turn – it cannot be manufactured or orchestrated in any way, because the two friends were born from the same pot. They are standing on the same foundation.

I’m not sure this is a satisfying explanation.  I have five or six really good friends, […]
