Saturn conjunct South Node

Saturn and Pluto conjunct South Node: The day of reckoning

(Bloom County Comic) Accounting for misdeeds comes in all shapes and sizes.  I accidentally stepped on my cat’s tail and have to beg for forgiveness.   You say something insensitive to a friend and apologize for that misdeed.  But this year we have seen the exposure of some enormous misdeeds and the need for the accounting to set the scales of justice in order.

Ever since March 2019 either Saturn or Pluto, and sometimes both planets, conjoined the South or descending lunar node.  The Nodes of the Moon, as many of you know, are like directional signs pointing the way from where we’ve come (South Node) to where we are headed (North Node).  There is a quality of fate with the nodes; a sense that the direction of our journey is already charted and of course this is true to some extent.  We can’t change our natal chart and our basic characteristics, and that North Node is always beckoning to us as a focus of personal growth.  But along the way we make choices and these choices can change the course of our lives for good or for ill.

Saturn is a personal planet and operates in the personal realm, challenging us to face our responsibilities and work diligently towards our goals and often testing us in various ways to increase our emotional and physical endurance.  Pluto is a transpersonal planet; its influence can be more ruthless in its pressure to create and support personal transformation.  Saturn makes things hard, Pluto can break us or make us.  With both of these planets  pressuring the South Node of the past, it’s no wonder that there have been personal crises and revelations of a very public nature as […]

The Leo New Moon offers an opportunity to shine

Art by Larry Landolfi

The Moon is new in Leo, the first lunar event since the eclipses of July.  Leo is the sign that celebrates the Self – the healthy Ego, open-hearted, generous and full of life and an ability to embrace joy.  Many of us have been having a very difficult time under the planetary conditions of the past couple of months, and this Leo New Moon offers an opportunity, should we accept it, to look for the silver thread that lines every cloud.

The New Moon is flanked by Venus on one side and Mars on the other – all in Leo.  This is a big burst of Sun-ruled energy to both soften the hard edges of our experience (Venus) and motivate and inspire us to take action (Mars).  All of this outgoing Leo energy is harmonized through a trine to Jupiter, planet of abundance and optimism, in its own sign of Sagittarius where it is particularly abundant and optimistic.

There is a darker and deeper side to this New Moon, though.  Mercury (mind and communication),  now direct (thank goodness!) is opposed by Pluto, leading to obsessive thinking.  Pluto can also provide us with deep insight, should we take the time to listen to our inner voice.  And Saturn, planet of tests and challenges, is still aligned with the South Node of the past, demanding that we fix our mistakes and learn their lessons.

At this Leo New Moon, the central question is:  What regrets or sorrows from the past am I holding onto which are keeping me from finding true joy in my life?  Am I ready to fully open my heart to happiness, or are there issues and resistance that are keeping […]

Planetary news this week! Leo season begins, Mercury retrograde, and an upcoming eclipse

astrologyThere’s lots to unpack this week!  Here’s what you need to know.

Saturn and the South Node

I have written about this a few times this year so this may not be brand new to some of you.  Saturn is the planet of tests and challenges – it’s like our teacher, always looking over our shoulder to see where improvement is needed.  The South Node represents lessons from the past and qualities which we have incarnated to work through.  The combination of Saturn with the South Node nearly always brings up issues from the past that are unfinished, or situations where poor choices may have resulted in some kind of crisis.  This cycle has actually been working on us since April of this year, but lessened somewhat and is now culminating once again as Saturn and the South Node will collide in an exact alignment on July 3-4. Not everyone will experience this as a test of past choices or behaviors, but it’s a good idea to consider, if there is some kind of crisis, how a pattern from the past may have contributed to situations in which we now find ourselves.

Personal disruptions 6/24-28

On the 24th and 25th there is the potential for a great deal of creative energy, but personal relationships could be unclear as Venus squares off against Neptune.  The Sun “translates” an awkward aspect between Uranus and Chiron on the 27th which could be uncomfortable for a day or two due to an energy imbalance between the electric energy of Uranus and the physical emotionality of Chiron.

Mercury and Mars move into Leo

Mercury and Mars both leave the emotional sign of Cancer this week, moving into Leo, a more buoyant and self-oriented sign.  Mercury transitions […]
