Saturn direct

Planetary news this week: Saturn direct and the Sun/Venus dance

Astrological update for the week of October 17-23, 2022

art by Carol Drury

Retrograde update. The retrograde forces that dominated August and September continue to fade, and after Saturn turns direct this week there will be three planets traveling in retrograde motion (Jupiter, Neptune, Uranus) as well as Chiron. This may seem like a lot, but this is a more normal number of retrogrades and the forces that pull us back into the past to review and reflect are beginning to lessen.

Saturn station. The challenging square from Saturn to Uranus which came very close to an exact alignment over the past few weeks is also starting to fade, and with it the forces of rebellion and conflict which dominated the story of 2021 will also start to retreat. Saturn, the planet that teaches endurance and the value of discipline and hard work, is stationary in the sky right now as it prepares to change direction. When a planet appears to “station” before a change of direction its influence intensifies, especially if you have sensitive planets between 15 and 20 degrees of the fixed signs (Aquarius, Leo, Scorpio, Taurus). Saturn will barely move between now and mid-November, meaning this wise teacher will dominate the planetary energies.

Saturn periods like this one are good times to focus on the hard things that need to be done, but are not the best times for speculation and over-idealistic thinking.

The Sun/Venus dance from Libra to Scorpio. The Sun and Venus meet in conjunction about every 9-1/2 months: once when Venus appears to be at its closest point to Earth when retrograde, and once (like now) when Venus is at its farthest point when traveling direct.  From our perspective, the Sun appears to […]

Weekly astrological forecast for September 21, 2020 including the Equinox and Saturn turning direct

In this week’s video I review the meaning of the Sun entering Libra at the September equinox and the turning of the seasons.  Also, Saturn is stationary in the sky right now and I thought he deserved some special time since his influence is important with all of the Capricorn energies happening at the moment.  And of course I’ll review the astrological influences of the week ahead to help with your planning.  Transcription can be found at the end, but as always I encourage you to watch the video.  It helps me and my channel, of course, but you’ll also find charts and visual aids in the video which will help to tie everything together and make more sense.

Hey everybody, welcome back to my channel. I hope you’ve had a great week. If you’re new here, my name is Lynn Hayes. And every week I post a video about the astrological influences for the week, and how you can get the most out of them. So without further ado, let’s get started.

The first thing I’d like to talk about is the planet Saturn. This summer we have had a large number of planets traveling retrograde. Now planets don’t actually travel retrograde, but sometimes they appear to travel backwards, and we call that retrograde. And this summer we have had between five and seven planets retrograde, which is a very large number. When we have that many planets retrograde there’s a tendency for the energies to kind of stall. We’re having to keep going back and look backwards behind us. You know, what did we do? Why did […]

Sagittarius lunar eclipse and Full Moon, June 15 2011

Midsummer Full Moon

The energy for tomorrow’s lunar eclipse is starting to build, and it’s likely to have a profound effect on many of us. The eclipse will peak at the moment of the Full Moon at 4:14 pm Eastern.

This is a Full Moon in Sagittarius, the sign that represents our search for meaning. Sagittarius describes the Truth that we create for ourselves, and the urge for expansion and adventure that drives us in search for that Truth. The Gemini Sun opposes the Sagittarius Moon, urging us to integrate the Gemini/Sagittarius polarity of knowledge and learning. In Gemini we learn with an open mind; in Sagittarius we seek understanding and discrimination between that which is true and that which is not true. Gemini opens us to new experiences but lacks discrimination; Sagittarius creates more rigid ideology but learns discernment. Neither is better than the other, but the two require balance.

A conjunction of Mercury, Gemini’s ruler, to the Gemini Sun will weigh the balance heavily in Gemini’s favor, activating the mind to be curious and wide awake, processing our life’s experiences through the realm of thoughts and ideas.  This can take us away from the emotional heart where wisdom can settle and become integrated into our life, and a conjunction of Chiron to Neptune in the eclipse chart suggests that there is still soul work to be done.

This eclipse is a powerful one as the Sun and Moon are only one degree from a conjunction to the nodes of the Moon.  The lunar nodes are not planetary bodies but are points in the sky where the Moon crosses the apparent path of the Sun from our earthly perspective.  The nodes are connected with our evolutionary progress […]

Saturn turns direct and other planetary news

saturn2Saturn, which has been traveling retrograde where it has been challenging our understanding and forcing us to go back and confront areas where we are less than good enough, turns direct today and resumes its forward motion through the sign of Leo until September, when it will enter Virgo and a new phase of our earthly instruction. Saturn is the Celestial Taskmaster, the great teacher that cares nothing for our ego but everything for our living a successful earthly life. Over the next few months as it completes the pass through Leo it will reach alternative trines with Jupiter and with Pluto, harmonizing influences that will facilitate the success of the forms that we create.

This could help to stabilize the influence of the square from Jupiter and its need to be expand the ego to Uranus which demands radical change. This cycle began in January and we’ll hit its second phase in May with the conclusion in October. Saturn will form a trine to Jupiter during that second phase, but it will also quincunx (150 degrees) Uranus which will create resistance to the urge for change that could result in small crises that have no outlet. Still, in the scope of things these cycles are relatively benign.

In other planetary news this week, relationships come into focus on the 22nd with the culmination of the conflict between Venus (relating to others) to Mars (self-oriented needs), although this is softened somewhat by the fact that Mars is in Pisces and less aggressively self-centered than this aspect may otherwise be. On the 23rd with an opposition of Venus to Jupiter we become self-indulgent (Venus/Jupiter) and likely will be primarily concerned with satisfying our own desires. By the 25th, with a trine […]

Saturn Turns Direct

Since Saturn turned retrograde on November 22, 2005, we have been forced to slow down and carefully examine all options before moving forward. Saturn rules discipline, delay and disappointment, and when retrograde all of this becomes internalized. Blinders are put on us so that we are unable to look at anything but the goal. During Saturn retrograde periods it is difficult to move forward, and impulsive behavior is kept in check.

Saturn’s retrograde turn has been particularly difficult because of the opposition with Chiron. Chiron represents areas both within ourselves and in the global consciousness that are painful and wounded, and Saturn puts pressure on those wounds – forcing them into our awareness where they can be healed. The Chiron/Saturn opposition is producing a world “healing crisis” (see this article for more details, and Saturn while stationary applied constant pressure. When Saturn turns direct on April 5, we will begin to see more forward movement as changes are put in place to alleviate dysfunction on both a personal and global level. Saturn is moving towards another opposition to Chiron and this healing crisis is likely to reach a climax when this occurs in June.

Saturn has been traveling in Leo since July 17, and since that time it has been challenging world leaders (Leo is the sign of Kings, and Saturn creates an environment of restriction and limitation). During this period the world’s leaders have been working hard to claim more power, and have been thwarted in the process. Some are losing power (President Bush) and some are gaining power and becoming more vocal (Iran’s leaders), and some countries have lost their leadership entirely (Israel and the Palestinian people). This is a cleansing process as the political […]
