Astrological news this week: Gemini New Moon & a change of direction

Astrological update for the week of May 30 –  June 5, 2022

A New Moon in Gemini, the sign of communication and experiences, offers an opportunity for a new perspective. The ruler of the New Moon is Mercury, the messenger planet, adding to the focus on communication and adaptation. In mythology, Mercury was the only god who was able to travel back and forth to the Underworld, facilitating communication between the gods. Mercury-ruled Gemini teaches us to accept and integrate a wide variety of ideas different kinds of experiences; under its influence everything is considered to have value for its own sake, and there is a keen desire to learn about many things. The Gemini New Moon is the perfect time to set aside our prejudices and look at our world through new eyes.

Making this a little more difficult is the fact that currently Mercury is in Taurus, a fixed sign which does not adapt easily to new situations, and Mercury is retrograde where we are looking more at the past than into the future. There may be some situations that need to be wrapped up before these new eyes can see clearly, especially since Mercury is within range of a square to Saturn which begin in late April before Mercury turned retrograde. Saturn tends to put the kibosh on new ideas, especially if they are half baked, so this is an important time to consider all details before venturing head-first into a new adventure.

The conjunction of Mars (action) to Jupiter (confidence) which dominated the astrology last week is still in effect and can encourage just that kind of head-first impulsivity so care should be taken. Mars and Jupiter […]

Weekend update May 22, 2021: Saturn turns retrograde and an intense Sunday ⭐️

art by Jim Fitzpatrick

Like all planets Saturn has two faces, both Beast and Prince.  As Beast, he brings out our doubts and insecurities and bestows hardships.  As Prince, the self-doubt and endurance required to manage the Beastly enterprises which result in successes and mastery.  Saturn is in Aquarius, one of its rulership signs where it is happiest and best able to create the forms and structures which are required in order to build societies (Aquarius) that are effective and well-balanced.  Saturn cares little for personal feelings; the ultimate goal is all that matters.

I tell you all of this because Saturn is stationary in the sky right now and will appear to turn retrograde on Sunday May 23rd.  Retrograde planets are at their closest point to Earth, and therefore rather than becoming weaker they affect us much more personally.  Saturn will be your personal guide for the next few months (until October 10, 2021) and that will be especially true if you have planets in your chart between 5 and 15 degrees of the fixed signs (Aquarius, Leo, Scorpio, Taurus).  Now is the time to buckle down to reassess our goals and priorities – to decide what really matters and make that happen.

So back to the weekend forecast:  on Saturday we have a challenging square from Mercury in Gemini to Neptune in Pisces that culminates late in the evening EDT/early morning Sunday UTC.  With Mercury in Gemini, the mind can wander all over the place and take in lots of extraneous information without a lot of focus, and the square to Neptune adds a dreamy quality that will make any focus extremely difficult and maybe even impossible.  Saturday is a day to imagine and create, […]

Weekly astrological forecast for September 21, 2020 including the Equinox and Saturn turning direct

In this week’s video I review the meaning of the Sun entering Libra at the September equinox and the turning of the seasons.  Also, Saturn is stationary in the sky right now and I thought he deserved some special time since his influence is important with all of the Capricorn energies happening at the moment.  And of course I’ll review the astrological influences of the week ahead to help with your planning.  Transcription can be found at the end, but as always I encourage you to watch the video.  It helps me and my channel, of course, but you’ll also find charts and visual aids in the video which will help to tie everything together and make more sense.

Hey everybody, welcome back to my channel. I hope you’ve had a great week. If you’re new here, my name is Lynn Hayes. And every week I post a video about the astrological influences for the week, and how you can get the most out of them. So without further ado, let’s get started.

The first thing I’d like to talk about is the planet Saturn. This summer we have had a large number of planets traveling retrograde. Now planets don’t actually travel retrograde, but sometimes they appear to travel backwards, and we call that retrograde. And this summer we have had between five and seven planets retrograde, which is a very large number. When we have that many planets retrograde there’s a tendency for the energies to kind of stall. We’re having to keep going back and look backwards behind us. You know, what did we do? Why did […]

And then there were four: Venus and Jupiter turn retrograde this week

Most of my readers already know this, but planets don’t actually travel backwards.  Astrology observes the motion of the planets from our perspective on earth, and from our perspective they occasionally appear to be moving backwards: we call this retrograde.

Pluto, planet of darkness and transformation, turned retrograde at the end of April.  Saturn, planet of tests and challenges, turned retrograde on May 11th, 2020.  Venus turned retrograde May 13th and Jupiter May 14th, at which point four planets will be retrograde.  (See this earlier post for more information.)  Anything more than four planets retrograde is significant, and between now and mid-October we will have between four and seven planets retrograde.  That’s a lot of looking backwards!  The world is on pause thanks to the virus, and the heavy retrograde influence suggests that there will be quite a few steps backwards before taking one step forwards.  This is a time of patience and reflection as we re-vision our lives which will look quite different when the pandemic is over.

Jupiter, representing abundance and expansion of all things, turns retrograde every year or so and when it does it encourages us to look back over our dreams and wishes for success and abundance in our lives and re-evaluate whether they are really in harmony with our soul’s purpose.  As with any retrograde period, sometimes it feels as though we aren’t able to move forward as quickly as we would like.  But these periods of looking back are a crucial part of our personal growth and help us to fine tune our goals and our vision for our future.  Jupiter will be retrograde until September 2020, and for much of that time it will be traveling in […]
