Samhain Full Moon in Taurus, November 6th 2014

Samhain full moon “To Be a Witch” by Dandelion Lion

Although the ancient Celtic holiday of Samhain is celebrated for convenience on October 31st to coincide with Hallowe’en or All Hallows Eve, it actually occurs at the midpoint between the Fall Equinox and the Winter Solstice.  This is also the midpoint of Scorpio, the dark season where the veils between the world begin to thin and it becomes easier to cross between them.

This year the Taurus Full Moon falls within one degree of the Samhain point – the Sun at 15 degrees Scorpio.  The power of this lunar opening at this degree encourages us to open more fully and walk courageously into the underworld of our own existence, finding the quiet power that lies within.  While the power of the earlier Scorpio stellium is lessening, there are still three planets in Scorpio which continue the focus on the power of emotions and feelings to transform and regenerate new life from the ashes of the past.

Every Full Moon consists of the Sun and Moon in opposite signs, so there is a need for integration and balance. The Taurus/Scorpio polarity is one of holding on and letting go. Taurus dislikes change and prefers stability, which can create stagnation. The Scorpio end of the polarity forces transformation in the form of destruction which is uncomfortable, but ultimately helps to move us forwards in our personal evolution as the regeneration cycle occurs.

With the Taurus Full Moon we are leaning towards the Taurus end of the spectrum as the Sun invites us to consider the dark arts of Scorpio to help let go of the past and welcome the Taurean peace and serenity that comes from being […]

Season of the Witch

Scorpio stellium Samhain Goddess by Arwen Grace

Now that we are through the New Moon in Scorpio Lunar Eclipse and have begun the trip into the deepest realms of the subconscious, we have no fewer than five planets and luminaries as well as an asteroid, all lined up today in a Scorpio stellium: Venus, Sun, Pallas, Moon, Saturn and Ceres.

The art and magic of astrology originated in the Northern hemisphere and the seasonal implications are less apt for the Southern hemisphere (although astrology still works there!).   For those of us in the top half of the world, The Sun’s entry into Scorpio in late October marks the passing from the abundance of the autumn harvest to the cold and dark of winter.   Nothing is superficial now – our attention is focused on that which is real and true.

Scorpio is quite literally the Season of the Witch – it is at the midpoint of Scorpio that we celebrate the dark holiday of Samhain in the Celtic calendar – the day in which the veils between the dead and living are at their thinnest.  Under the influence of Scorpio we become more aware of the vibrations around us and more sensitive to danger.  With Mars as the traditional ruler of Scorpio and Pluto the modern ruler, we seek to discover tools that will help us to focus our will (Mars) and achieve a higher degree of personal power than we ever thought possible (Pluto).

Aleister Crowley said “Magick is the Science and Art of causing Change to occur in conformity with Will.”  This is Scorpio, in a nutshell.  Ideally this will occur in concert with the highest good of all, and in alignment […]

The astrology of Hillary Clinton, 2017 edition

Hillary Clinton is all over the news lately as the most recognized Presidential candidate. A recent CNN/Gallup poll shows that 39% of Democrats polled said they would vote for Clinton in 2008, as opposed to 15% for John Kerry, 13% for Al Gore and 12% for John Edwards. These numbers have been consistent over the past year, and Hillary is looking like a front-runner for the Democrats. Will she run, and if she runs, will she win? Let’s take a look at her chart. Note to astrologers: Hillary has given her birth time as 8:00 pm, and most published birthcharts show her with 29 deg. Gemini on the ascendant. Because of the lack of reliable birth data my pre-2023 analysis did not include the ascendant. In March of 2023 a birth certificate was obtained showing a birth time of 6:45 pm although some are concerned about the lack of clarity of the time on the certificate.)

Since her appearance on the national political stage, there was no doubting the power of Hillary Clinton. Hillary had been an overachiever from an early age: in high school she served as class president, student council and debating team member, and member of the National Honor Society. As a Republican, she worked actively for the campaign of Barry Goldwater at the age of 16 and went on to become President of the Wellesley chapter of College Republicans. Moved by the death of Martin Luther King her political views became more liberal and she joined the Democratic party. Valedictorian of her class, she graduated with honors in political science and became the first student in the history of Wellesley College to deliver the commencement […]
